Is it any wonder....
All of this is so true. Today (on the phone) my mom made a comment that my sister's smile improved her high school grades so transitioning into college was hard. (My niece just started college and my parents are hoping it goes better for her than it did for my sister)
I was stunned to hear this assessment of my little sister (4 years younger) who seemed to have everything going for her from my point of view: beauty, legit social skills, smarts. I was always glad I was older because it would have been terrible to follow in her footsteps.
But, I bet my sister has more than a hint of my mom's point of view. Family dynamics can be vicious.
And, there is the underlying viewpoint that I (in contrast) had to earn my grades. True that, I suppose.

Devon, I just saw this thread. :(
What a disappointing message from your dad.
But I am so glad you could deposit it here and lighten the load it felt on your shoulders.
Parents. Shee****hey do their best. And they still do something like this.
All children inherit their parents' baggage. Our challenge is to learn, eventually, how to "return to sender" the stuff that makes our journey harder.
Don't keep this. Don't display it on the mantel of your mind. It's garbage. Toss it in the trash.
Love,
Ann
