Good morning, my friends. :) This is a just drive-by post.

Today will be a long one , starting with yoga class, then traveling to The Big City for a few errands and my cataract pre-surgical consultation.

Weight is holding steady.

My cold is lessening.

Today's theme: On the road again!

I spent a lot of time thinking about what multiple measures I need to consider when I look at my daily progress toward where I want to be. First, I had to come up with a working vision of my overall intention:

I intend to live a balanced life, with mind, body and spirit synergizing to move toward my potential.

What will it look like for me to live this intention?

1. I am in my five pound weight range.

2. My clothes fit comfortably

3. I log 10,000 + steps a day

4. I take time to practice self care.

5. I take time to play.

6. I identify/pursue a new interest/talent/skill

This is my baseline, and I'll modify from here. How crazy that these have been my unspoken intentions, yet my daily measure of progress was a single number on the scale ! Wow! So, when I get on the scale every day, I will merely determine if I am in my range. For the last couple of days, I'm smack dab in the middle, and that number is logged in MFP. I'll log any weights outside my range but not and of the thirty (30!) possible weights within (134-139.8) Valuing every tenth and movement within my range has become counterproductive for me.

I am eager to get going, and see how this new focus works for me !

Age: 64; 5' 5"; High weight: 345; Start weight: 271 (01/05/15); Surgery weight: 218 (05/27/15); Pre-Op (-53); M 1 (-18); M 2 (-1.5); M 3 (-13.5 ); M 4 (-13); M 5 (- 8); M 6 (-12) M 7 (-5, Xmas); M 8 (- 9) Under surgeon's goal and REACHED HEALTHY BMI 12/07/15!! (Six months and one week.) AT GOAL month 8. Maintaining at goal range (139- 144) ~ four (4) years !!

Weight 122.8, calories 1818. Even after analyzing the 5 pound weight gain I still overate. This week is always a bit depressing for me as eldest DD's 46th Birthday should have been tomorrow.

I had to analyze the weight gain after contemplating it the last couple of weeks, so I updated my trusty spreadsheet! For the entire period I was weighing in at 115-118, I was averaging at 1350 calories a day. From June-today, I averaged 1500 calories a day. So that extra 150 a day over 17 weeks equates to 17,850 extra calories. If a pound is 3500 calories, that would mean I should have gained about 5 pounds, which is essentially where I am!

So to lose the 5 pounds, if I get down to an average of 1000 calories a day, that would be a deficit of 350 calories per day, so it would take about 50 days or 7 weeks to get back into my range. Hmmm... I really need to get on that horse. I'm actually pretty good at eating low calorie if I don't drink wine and don't have sweets around. It might actually be easier once we get to Florida, at least in the fall when it is quieter there.

Greetings

Well OH ate my post. Or actually probably Steve Jobs ate it since I think its my computer. High calorie.

151 today. Took DH yesterday for pre op apt for hernia surgery Friday. Then off to gallery. After that, my Chevy Bolt decided I was trying to steal it and wouldn't start. I think key fob was buried under too much other junk including electronics.

Good thoughts Diane O. Must find new measures besides Mr. Scale.

Scabble this afternoon and a bit of studio time.

SIL broke her hip and had surgery yesterday. She could barely walk as it was and my brother has brain tumor so neither will be able to drive. She will need rehab. Tough on my niece who has a vet practice and a 5 year old.

Gotta go before this gets eaten again. Maybe more later. Diane S

Absolutely agree with the idea of multiple measures! Excellent list, Diane- especially the idea of simply evaluating an acceptable weight in terms of range instead of the constantly shifting of nanno-tenths.

Ann, cataracts do not seem to be an issue with me- however, I have heard that when they are addressed, one of the side effects is that eyes will see colors more vividly (so says DH as well as another friend who has had the surgery). I think it would be wonderful to see colors with youthful, fresh eyes. Hope that happens for you--would be a great takeaway.

Liz, gentle thoughts your way tomorrow as you remember your wonderful daughter and celebrate the loving relationship you have with her. A precious gift that was and still is, and always will be.

 TOTAL POUNDS LOST- 200 (110 pounds lost before surgery, 90 pounds lost Post Op.diabetes in remission-blood pressure normal-cholesterol and triglyceride levels normal!  BMI from 55.6  supermorbidly obese to 23.6  normal!!!!

Yes, the "brighter colors" benefit after cataract surgery -- I've heard that, too, from my friends who all rave about their better post-op eyesight. I'm looking forward to it. And to all the cool sunglasses I can now buy off the rack!

I'm currently near-sighted, but when my distance sight is corrected with this cataract surgery (which is the option I chose), I'll have to wear reading glasses. And that's just more "fashion for the face," which is another good thing.

BTW, even if cataracts aren't an issue for you now they may become an issue as age. I'm a lot older (almost 73) than you young whippersnappers who still see pretty clearly. ;)

Multiple measures... once a very trendy thing in education (still should be, by the way! Using different measures is a much better way of determining a student's mastery level of subject).

I am tired, nervous and a bit stressed about my upcoming trip. I always become stressed flying a dog in cargo. Believe me, I understand there are reasons why dogs should not be in a cabin with the passengers, but I also don't like the way dogs are transported. Long and short they are put in with the bags. I always say a little prayer that no one lies has dry ice in their baggage keeping something cold for a flight home.

Will be leaving the house around 8:00 pm tonight. Should get to the hotel sometime tomorrow around 10 or 11 am EDT.

Once on the road, I relax. Nothing I can do once we are airborne, so I try to sleep.

Will do my level best to stay with the most healthful eating possible while I am away. Not sure when I will post again - may not be until I get back. Just depends how busy I am.
