Good morning, Monday Maintainers. :) I'll start us off this Monday morning and first day of October.

First, "The House with a Clock in Its Walls" wasn't terrible, but also was not impressive. I suggest you don't bother with it.

Weight is holding steady. That's my goal this month ... keep everything steady.

I'm so ready for this cold to be gone.

Today I have a long to-do list of errands and phone calls to plow through.

Tomorrow, a friend is driving me to The Big City for my pre-cataract surgery consultation. I had one of those last summer, but last summer's mammogram scare, breast biopsy (all-clear), and my husband's final cancer diagnosis stopped that process. I'm now going to get the surgery done (probably in November). I'll admit I'm anxious about the surgery because ... eyes.

BTW, my latest six-month mammogram a few weeks ago showed no issues at all, so I'm back in the annual mammogram cohort. Yea!

Today's oldie goldie theme: Be here now. :)

Outstanding October to you outgoing maintainers ! DC made me three more raised beds and yesterday we visited a friend's farm for three feed bags full of manure. Now, this wasn't just any manure. They had moved their working manure pile to the back of a field, and the top was the bottom and the bottom was the top. This stuff is rich and aged and beautiful... steamy not stinky ! Rarely do I get this excited about poop, when it isn't my own ! The owner had driven us to the back of this uncut hay field on a dirt road in her pick up. I was sitting next to her as we started to head back. She looked at me and said, "Want to have some fun ?! " When she threw it into four wheel drive, I should have known ! She took off through the fields, like a freedom fighter, barreling through high hay and making her own path. It was fabulous ! She knows her property well and later pointed out some of the obstacles she had avoided... old wells and farm parts, ditches. We visited her horses in an upper pasture, and she identified a huge draft horse she thought would be perfect for riding lessons. I'm game !! We came home and I worked two bags of our treasure into the three new beds. I saved one to add to the other three, when our tomato and pepper crop gives up the ghost.

Shel... you helped everything click for me ! Multiple measures ! So essential... how could I have dialed back to a single measure... the scale ? When I first hit maintenance, I struggled to adjust to no longer losing, and started to track measurements. I had no experience with maintaining at a desired weight, and was rarely stable at any weight, so my clothes were all sizes and mostly loose and strechy. Wearing form fitting well cut clothes was a mind blower, and it took some experience to use the fit of my clothes to gauge success. I'd love to hear the multiple measures you all use to determine your daily progress. I learn so much from the marcos, sleep, activity, self care I'm seeing valued and tracked.

Diane, I love, love, love your thoughts about the metrics we choose to rule us!

And yes, we're wise to keep our eyes on multiple metrics, not a single one.

You may (or may not) remember that I had my lean mass / body fat measured recently, and it came in at 23.6%. That puts me in the "lean" category of women my age (over age 56, as it seems that's as old as the body mass charts go). See the Body Fat % Measurement Chart for WOMEN below. You can see a complete view of this chart here.

I told the fitness trainer at the hospital where I had surgery (she has taken all my fitness measurements since pre-op) that I will aim for 21-22% body fat a year from now. This means strength-building exercises, but I haven't started any new program yet. It's time I tried rowing machines, and your post has inspired me to start this week.

Thanks!

P.S. Pre-op, she measured my body fat at 47.9%, which isn't even on this chart!

Good morning. Weight 122.6, calories 566. Argh... Of course I somewhat feared the weight because carb overload usually hits my weight 2 days later. This trend has to stop. I'm feeling fat even though my clothes fit. Last night I had my monthly in-person support meeting. One man is 10 years out and is also a mentor. He is just finishing a supervised medical weight loss program of all shakes to lose 30 pounds of regain. He said it is the third time he has done this since WLS. He feels it is the only way for him to fully detox from carbs. He has 4 -5 shakes a day (5 on days when he exercises a lot). Hmmm... maybe I should do this or something similar to drop my weight back (and remove the carb cravings). Of course I'm going out to dinner at least 4 times in the next week so I guess I'll have to contemplate it for the next week.

Today is busy - calls for DH records, caretaker class, Alzheimer's support group, and an evening cruise/dinner. Have a moving Monday!

Total drive by here- It's homecoming Spirit Week at the high school and today is Retro-dress up day. I chose the 80's because I actually have a vintage trouser-silk blouse get up from that one nano-second in 1982 when I was thin (lasted about 3 days if I remember correctly). Did women really spend 1 1/2 hours getting make up-hair-together. You donot want to know how much hairspray I used! Will try to get in and read posts later- -b.

172.8 How have so let this happen??

I should be packing up, doing laundry and shutting my house down, but I'm not feeling the needed urgency yet (it's totally there as I leave tomorrow, I'm just not feeling it!).

Hoping returning home helps me reset some habits that aren't great right now...

Cecily, kudos for getting on the scales! You sound like me when it's time to go home after a big ole vacation and I am yearning to return to my home environment where I can CONTROL everything.

Safe travels!

I'm up about 5 Cecily. The summer was not weight friendly. We need to buckle down apparently! Maybe if there were no social occasions? But wait, then we'd get depressed...

My weight is also up after several days of entertaining and being entertained. As sad as I am to drop beloved daughter off at the airport this evening, getting back to my low sugar, low processed food routine will be comforting.
