Last day in Paris (Last Tango in Paris?)...

We did see the artists in Montmartre (2 pictures below for you Diane). We really enjoyed that area of Paris. And we walked all the way up for exercise (not too bad). The food at the dinner at the Eiffel Tower was totally mediocre but the view was nice (other 2 pics below) and DH enjoyed it. He has been so disoriented that was nice.

Today is the Versailles Palace, a river cruise, and whatever else we can fit in around DH's naps.

Here in the Ozarks, my day was about eating healthy, aquarobics, walking, decluttering, unprocrastination ... and mowing. :) Today will be the same, except I'm going to a family birthday dinner tonight.

Nothing exciting going on around here. And that's a good thing. :)

It has been around 70 the last couple of days after being 80 for the first 2. We just finished Versailles and are exhausted (it didn't help that I only slept about 5 hours last night). I'm ready to go home and back to routine!

Y'all have had an wonderful and ambitious itinerary. And home after this will feel like a kick-back vacation after your European vacation! :)

138.2 (The scale continues to bemuse and humor me. I have a vivid memory of spending the night with a friend and we both got on the scales to see what we weighed- 135 for me as a 10 or 11 year old. Post Script- That night was my introduction to MAD magazine--I was at the both delighted and worried that my mom would discover I had read such subversive humor.

Yogurt incubating in the kitchen, laundry sudsing in the basement, DH entertaining Noodle with a tv soccer game the living room-my cognitive brain returned in reasonable working order, I send

Greetings, to all perfectly splendid and delightful yous as you contemplate, motervate, play, and otherwise navigate this glorious Saturday-

So, KUMED concludes what I have is a large mucinous cystic neoplasm located in the head of my pancreas along with other, small non concerning small cysts in the body. In addition, "swirlies" were incidentally found in my small intestine which indicates herniated or maybe twisting pocket(s) there- accounting for my very slow moving poos. The MCN, while not cancerous is trending to cancer, and "best practices" (funny, a term Iv'e only ever associated with educational matters) strongly recommend resection. I'm scheduled for a Whipple procedure (they will also address the "swirlies") November 13th and may be able to return to work January 3 or so for 2nd semester.

My immediate concern (like Scarlett, I will think about the other stuff "tomorrow") is insurance. I am an "at will worker", and as such, without the amount of paid sick leave required, could be, if "they" chose, terminated being, technically "absent with out leave." I find it interesting that while I am considered full time, my position does not- and as set-never could yield the yearly accumulated hours required by law to qualify me for FLMA. I am hoping they will value my services enough to grant me the 11 or so days as approved leave of absence. I think there is a meeting set up for Monday with the administrator who would submit whatever recommendation to the administrator who would make the final decision. Wish me luck on this one.

Dang, this seems a long, dragged out post- am off to the kitchen to manufacture some tahini so I can then make hummus. DS#2 coming over tomorrow, and no doubt will spirit the hummus away when he leaves. That's ok-

 TOTAL POUNDS LOST- 200 (110 pounds lost before surgery, 90 pounds lost Post Op.diabetes in remission-blood pressure normal-cholesterol and triglyceride levels normal!  BMI from 55.6  supermorbidly obese to 23.6  normal!!!!

Well Bonnie I had to look up the Whipple Procedure. I was pretty sure it had nothing to do with that guy who used to squeeze the Charmin. Looks like a big deal surgery. Hope you can go laproscopic. Wishing you the best. At least its not entire pancreas.

And for petes sake they better give you the leave. How dumb would it be not to.

How do you make tahini? I just buy humus. Me lazy. Diane S

The tahini is just toasted hulled sesame seeds that are processed with a quantity of olive oil in a food processer until it turns into, well, tahini. Then I combine about 1/4 cup of the tahini (the rest will set safely in the fridge for a good month- use for more tahini or other goodies) with about the same amount of lemon juice and process until it looks something like clumpy playdough- it will get very thick- you want that. Toss in the rest of the ingredients: can of drained (save the liquid) garbanzos, tsp minced garlic, - cumin, cracked pepper to taste and process until smooth. This may take 5 minutes- Patience, grasshopper. During this processing time you will adjust to texture, taste and consistency. Use some of the garbanzo liquid, yogurt, extra lemon juice, olive oil, however the muse directs you-how ever you want. You will know when it's done because it will look like, taste like, have a mouthfeel of hummus to your order. Dress the hummus with paprika and olive oil swirls and set in fridge until use.

I won't have the choice of laparoscopy- everything is just too close together and dicey.

Tahini sounds amaze-balls. But I can guarantee you I will NEVER make it for myself. I'm just coming to your house and eat yours when you're done making it. :)

Bonnie, I'm so glad that the MCN isn't cancerous. In my book, pre-cancerous is MUCH better than cancerous.

And like Diane said, they BETTER give you the kind of leave you want. Really, they BETTER!

I'm glad you have a diagnosis and a plan to deal with it. I would hope your employer would do right by you in this situation. Do they have a history of not doing so?
