VSG Maintenance Group
Friday September 14, 2018
This is our next to last full day in Paris. Yesterday we did a walking tour in the Jewish Quarter (Le Marais) in the early afternoon and SIL and I went to the Trocadéro and walked around in the late afternoon while DH slept. DH has been essentially a zombie since we arrived in Paris shuffling along slowly, not taking in anything, and barely able to communicate. Bathroom habits have been an issue with adult depends needed full-time ven though he is angry about that. I feel guilty that I didn't take him 1-2 years ago, but the time didn't seem right with money or work. Hopefully he will bounce back a bit when we get home but this has really provided a view of the near future.
This morning we are going to tour Montmartre and see Sacré Coeur. Then back for DH to sleep until late afternoon. We have a dinner at the Eiffel Tower and a criuise on the Seine tonight.
Eating has been good at meals, but I am having wine with meals and some croissants have been consumed. Austerity might actually feel good after we get home.
Have a fantastic Friday!

Only a few more days of Paris, Liz. Eat it all up! It was my husband's very favorite city for all the reasons you're enjoying it now.
Another day of eating healthy, ten hours of sleep last night, and the scale's doing what it's supposed to do.
Yesterday was yoga, errands, more decluttering, housecleaning, and unprocrastination. At one point in the afternoon I was clearly in charwoman mode. I also read a lot.
However, some bad news -- I learned that night before last one of my best friends, who a couple of years ago had a "small heart attack" (whatever that means), had a transient eschemic attack (TIA). The internet says 1 in 3 people who have a TIA subsequently have an actual stroke. Damnit! He's an absolutely magnificent person, brilliant, and the bon vivant of our crowd.
Yes, he's 40 pounds overweight, has high blood pressure, heart disease, high cholesterol, doesn't exercise regularly, and loves to cook and eat rich food. For years he's said that he's going to start to eat healthy, exercise regularly, and lose weight. And then he rustles up risotto with foie gras for dinner. I hope the TIA finally scares him into action. He's always wanted to lose weight to look better. But as some of us have experienced, the motivation to resolve a health crisis is a much more persuasive and powerful force in helping us take sustained action to change our lifestyles.
Nevertheless, today's theme is: TGIF!

Whoa, Charwoman mode! I envision you as a smoldering blonde, smoking everything in your path. Procrastination didn't stand a chance!
(Maybe you meant chairwoman, but, honestly, Charwoman....that is a superhero stuff. I'll be your sidekick Puff.)
I'm sorry about your friend....best wishes to him. Now he knows a little more.

LOL! No, I meant CHARwoman. As in on my hands and knees scrubbing a hardwood floor where the foam backing of an ancient sisal area rug had disintegrated over the years and tried to fuse with the wood floor.
A vacuum cleaner, rags, a bucket full of water, brushes, and toothbrushes were involved. And I only got the top layer off. Must attack it again later today after I change back into my charwoman outfit. ;)
When you've spent the last 4 years just dusting and vacuuming and you start to look UNDER stuff, be afraid! Be very afraid.

I had no idea that was a real word! I stink at crosswords, by the way.
Is still think you look good as a superwoman with flaming superpowers.

I agree about nephrologists....they are wizards. I love reading the chart notes of one of ours....it is like a mini master class. I can't remember all his pearls because I don't have his baseline understanding.
I'll have to look at Jason Fung again....I know I came across him on the web and he did seem super smart. I distinctly remember not being in the right frame of mind to dive in...it might have been just before VSG.
Congrats on 23 hours without a bite, from another professional grazer.

I am tickled to hear this, David. I am also one of those people *****ad and reread and re-listen to things to grasp the full meaning of something that's very important.
Some information can only be absorbed if I marinate in it.
P.S. I don't think I could go 23 hours without a single bite. Or maybe I could. I sure haven't done so for a long time, and I think that time stuff was coming out of all my orifices. Sorry. T.M.I.

Morning!
Liz, please enjoy all that Paris has to offer! No guilt about anything. How could you know 2 years ago what today would bring? Plus, if the timing was off....it was off. And, he really seemed to have a lot of enjoyment earlier in the trip.
Peps, hug those wiggling pups!!! What a wonderful age!
Have a great day, all, Shel

Greetings Peeps Peps and Pups
I am running out of cutesy greetings but this is my fave. What is not my fave it weight - 151. I am indeed now a member of the Olympic Grazing Team and it sucks. I raided the candy jar at the bank. DH brings home junk and I actually ate Pringles last night. Pringles!! the worst most processed thing there is!! I am gonna have to get a lock box for him to keep that junk in. I am at least taking the old dog out daily now (me - I am the old *****) for a walk and increasing fit bit steps but calories in are king. Maybe I will check out that book - Dr. Cirangle does juice fasts periodically and thinks its a good thing.
Oooh Liz, Monmartre! Hope you get to the artist square behind it. When I was last there the funicular was broken and I walked up all those stairs at about 180 lbs! Took awhile. I am sure you will take lots of pictures to go over with later with DH when you are home and he is rested. And you can't do Paris without a croissant.
Dave glad you are doing well and we eagerly await reports on the fasting. I wonder how that relates to the Bright Line eating book.
Ann, you a charwoman? If so I predict a prince will show up with a glass slipper! Had any rides in a pumpkin lately?
Shel, it must be interesting to read case notes. I've often wondered who the smartest doctors are - what field? I knew a man who was #1 in his medical school class and he chose family practice. The reason-extreme variety of patients as opposed to the same 4 or 5 conditions over and over. Makes sense.
Well today involves a trip to the big city grocery store, paying tax estimates, fooling with computer stuff and studio visit and vitamin acquisition. Such excitement. Gallery duty tomorrow and football. I love being retired. Diane S
