Who makes a 600 calorie cookie? WHO??!!! City Bites, that's who. 640 to be exact.
I knew that Panera had a 460 calorie cookie. I thought that was the worst offender.
So much for my calories today. I did pretty good other than that lol. I'm now 15 calories over my limit...already. In days of old this would mean a license to board the food train. Let's see if I can salvage the day.
My intention is to focus on what is good today.
My group of kiddos seems to be a nice bunch. However, the girl boy ratio is skewed to the girls. That is never, ever a good thing for group dynamics. I have 18 students present today. 12 girls, 6 boys. 2:1...sigh.... The reverse ratio is generally a much better dynamic. This particular group of young ladies had some very difficult group dynamics in first grade. Lots of leaders...
I have decided that I'm ready to focus on a healthier way of eating. I am going to do my absolute level best to not focus on weight loss, but rather on changing eating habits. I want to take the approach of focusing on healthy changes instead of focusing on what needs to be excluded. I need to get back to a "happy in my skin" place.
I guess not much else since last night.
Me too on the focus on healthy eating. Recently I've been noticing the feelings of "oh crap, I blew my diet. I guess I'll go ahead and splurge before I start again tomorrow" mentality. And that is so so so dangerous for me. Do normal people think this way? Or is it brought on by years of dieting?
For example, I ate this ridiculously caloric cookie. Now, I'm not normal, but I do think sometimes investigating what a normal person might do with it can be useful, if only for scientific purposes. I don't think my normal skinny friends would think "oh crap, went over calories, need to eat MORE." They probably A) wouldn't necessarily know the calories, but B) would know they splurged and would reel it in at dinnertime, and C) at the very least they wouldn't intentionally splurge again at dinner just because they did at lunchtime.
Anyway, my point is that a focus on health is probably better than a focus on exclusion. Because A) isn't health really the goal, and because B) I tend to focus on what I focus on, so if I think about excluded foods...I may want to eat them!
Good luck! HOpefully the structure will help. I know I always think this. But it's all different challenges and a matter of whether I choose to embrace them or fight them (I say this as I'm wrangling a baby...I can look at it as a nice diversion from food, or a good excuse for free-for-all)
In the interest of focusing on healthy swaps (and just generally trying to focus on things that make me happy)
I mentioned I've been loving the Sbux egg white sous vide bites. I forget if I linked the recipe
https://www.platingsandpairings.com/instant-pot-sous-vide-eg g-bites-starbucks-copycat/
But I've made some changes to the basic recipe. I've found that I can use 2 eggs and 6 Tbsp. egg whites and lowfat cottage cheese successfully. I also use a quattro formaggio blend I picked up at trader joes in lieu of the monterey jack cheese. I'm sure you could use lowfat cheese with success. I don't use any onion because I don't have any. Making my changes, they come out to 71 calories, 4 g fat, and 7 protein each. Yummy. I usually eat 2.
I also loved a new find--Xtreme wraps in tomato basil. I found them at Walmart. I really like mission carb balance tortillas, but at 120 calories that can add up! And I'm not a huge fan of the La Tortilla low carb--they taste kind of chemically. But the Xtreme wrap plus blackened turkey, ultra thin swiss cheese slices, lettuce, and mustard roll up to make a GREAT lunch. Or I guess a hefty snack.
So...I always have this dilemma...go for higher density/more caloric "normal" options in a smaller portion? The fat/calories tend to fill me up and preserve my sleeve size. Or low calorie choices, which tend to leave me hungry?
Let's be honest, either way I slice it, I'm eating too many calories. I probably need to be doing small portions of healthy foods. Doh.
Liz I need to know what you eat and how much when you're eating 800-1000 calories. IN my mind I'm eating 1200-1400. But in reality I'm eating 1800! Gulp! And that leads to slow weight gain.
Liz posts regularly on the what cha eating daily post on the 'VSG forum. And, there was a time (a long time ago) that I noticed that she also posted on the daily menu board of the RNY forum. Liz is a polygamist.
I like the sous vide egg bites too.....I have some freezing in the freezer right now. (In the spot where DD's ice cream usually sits) I'm going to take them on a road trip and see if they survive.
I need to run them thru my fitness pal but my guess is that they are similar to yours? I use 300g egg (about 2/3 egg white, 1/3 whole egg) plus 300g 2% cottage cheese. I sprinkle in red peppers at the end. Plus salt and whatever else I feel like tossing in. I like them with more cheese, too, but I don't find it necessary so usually I skip.
Like you, I find these bites make me happy. It isn't a swap-down.
