Exercise: Yoga class and walking 10K+ steps

Well, that's a shocker ... the scales are already showing me a 133 number, even though I ate more yesterday than I'd planned, thanks to staying up late to finish my book for tonight's book club meeting.

This morning I actually didn't trust the scales, so I tried on a "skinny" skirt to see how it fit - and boom! :) Now I'll keep doing what I'm doing to ensure I stay at this weight for a few weeks and strengthen this set point.

It's also clear that my body likes 10K daily steps plus exercise classes. And yes, I am indeed sore this morning after yesterday's yoga class where the teacher worked us hard. I can tell this autumn is going to be a good yoga season.

Lately, I'm appreciating the value of not requiring myself to be perfect. As if! ;) Yes, I'm focusing on building more healthy habits by consistently grooving in those actions daily so I won't have to agonize every night over whether or not I'm actually going to wind up brushing my dinner before bedtime, etc. But I'm also focusing on not beating myself up when my day goes a little sideways. Consequently, I'm feeling much less frustrated and anxious about everything. I'm finally learning how to be more flexible.

I'm also learning a little better how to do just one thing at a time. Like Devon said about his grooming, I'm experimenting with treating my walking, washing dishes, decluttering, making the bed, even drinking a glass of wine into a meditation. It's weird how easy that is to do after you do it a few times.

By the way, I won't always be this yadda yadda about the woo-woo stuff I'm loving right now. I'll be partying again soon, I'm sure. ;) BTW, the "Ann's going to stay home for the next two months plan" is already shot ... I'm now going to Chicago over Labor Day and then to Grand Rapids later in the month for their big ArtPrize festival. For now, apparently my middle path is woo-woo and party-party. :)

Everyone, have the day you want to have. :)

Today's theme: Focus on actions, not results.

Good morning!

Ann, so glad you are back into yoga. It has been a long time since I have been at a studio but I have started adding some home yoga back into my routine. I'm enjoying your woo-woo phase. I say keep it up, if it serves you ;)

My current books (all audible)

  • woo-woo: Untethered Soul by Michael Singer. Rather circular, but fitting, considering we are trying to untether from my rather circular inner voice which is an expert in nothing
  • non-fiction: Wild: From Lost to Found by Cheryl Strayed. Good fun that happens to include a woman solo hiker that loves REI.
  • humor: Calypso, by David Sedaris

Today's forecasts:

  • smoke: "unhealthy for all." Ash is beginning to fall.
  • Bosu: (the bosu is my magic 8 ball. I step on, and it tells me what it thinks of me.). "Balance bad, but less bad than yesterday." (Side note: I can not balance while listening to D Sedaris. yet.)
  • MFP: tracking 6pm onward

Intention: Focus on actions, not results

Have a great day!

Shel

Good morning, Ann. 10,000 steps is a lot! That's interesting on how you're right, sometimes in an effect to better ourselves, we become hyper-critical. I love the theme!

Weight: 168.6. Ugh. At least it's not 170

Devon-excited for the kids to come back today?

I still can't believe it's time for school to start. I love fall but summer just seems like it never happened!

I think I'm getting sick. I started to get a sore throat last night, and that's always the tell-tale sign. This morning I'm simultaneously stuffy and drainy. Yuck!

Becca woke up on the wrong side of the bassinet today. I was excited last night when she woke up as I was coming to bed. I fed her and hoped maybe this would mean no middle of night wake ups. But sure enough around 4:30 she started stirring. Finally at 5:15 I made her a bottle and she refused it and was MAD!! For a good hour until finally she took it. So today isn't off to the best start. Hoping it improves.

Mad baby! Little face squished and red. Hell knows no fury....

It is particularly powerful when it occurs during a time of day where you expect peace and calm.

Best wishes for the rest of the day!

PS: I'm going to try to hold onto summer thru Sept. Cuz, this is the PNW and sometimes that happens.

Enthusiastic! That's the word I would use rather than excited. I have done so many of these first days of school (this is #25) that I dont' feel excited as much as enthusiastic about another year and the newness that brings. Getting to know each child, group dynamics, etc... it's a lot of fun and very energizing (and somewhat tiring).

Weight 119.2, calories 1321. Today is the second full day of company. Wouldn't you know the weather stinks this week (cloudy all day yesterday and raining right now)?It really strains me to come up with things to do.

Tonight we are supposed to go out to my favorite restaurant on the Cape Cod Canal. I hope it is more clear by then. It is a fish place which is safe, but they have this darn good cornbread...

Have a wondrous Wednesday!

Greetings on a Woo Woo Wednesday

149.5. Not so good but I gotta own it. Dinner was burnt to a crisp bacon and a half ear of corn. So summery even though it was downright cold here yesterday.

Well Ann, we love the woo woo you. You are so right that focusing on habits is more effective than focusing on results. I need to pay more attention to my fitbit than to my scale. I keep thinking of the time we spent in Italy where I was easily over 10k steps per day and also ate pizza and gelato all the time and gained no weight.

And good on you Ann for traveling. Ditto Diane O. I bet there are all kinds of on line groups of RV people who can give helpful tips for stocking and maintaining your rig. Can't wait to hear about the maiden voyage.

We didn't make it to the fair yesterday and it doesn't look like we will today either. DH is feeling crappy so best to let him nap.

I made a trip to the big discount grocery store yesterday which I used to do on a regular basis to buy big amounts of food. Their prices are so much less for Fage and everything. I got a small chuck roast for the slow cooker for a change. The dogs will probably end up with a lot of it but hey, it was bargain priced. Plus I love the way it makes the house smell. BB all your talk of barbecue and smoked meats brings out the carnivore in me.

Shel, sorry you are living in smoke and ash land and that its keeping you from hiking. While I don't notice any smoke here 1.5 miles from the ocean, my friends who are 15 miles south are noticing it. We really can't go anywhere either without running the risk of it so I guess we will just stay here for now. Summer is the best time to be here anyway. I wish everyone could just beam themselves here and enjoy the cool fog blanket.

DH and I are totally sucked in to the series "A Place Called Home". Fortunately there are many more seasons for us to binge watch. So glad to have found something besides exploding aliens.

Love the image of "mad baby" all red and squishy faced. Its amazing how they can do that with only a few months of life on this earth. Hoping she returns to chill mode enough for you to sleep BB.

Today's theme "Move it to lose it". And coffee all around. Diane S

I envy you your smoke free environment. It was so smoky here over the weekend you could not see Mt. Diablo from my house. Generally it is a looming figure. Our house borders on Mt. Diablo State Park (well, within a 1/4 mile). We couldn't even see across the valley here - which is only a couple of miles wide. Seeing the bay or Delta? Impossible. We've had fog two or three mornings in a row and that has helped a great deal.

Sorry DH isn't feeling well. Did his eye issue ever resolve? I missed the outcome of that...hopefully just new glasses?

I think smoke will improve tomorrow...we have been PROMISED. If it doesn't, more than just the babies will be red and squishy faced.

Hey, you asked if there is my kind of hiking near Long Beach.....no there really isn't. I don't know how long I will want/need to do that but right now I am thinking it is a no-go for retirement just on the basis of just that. But, who knows, really how long I want to hike UP 3000-4000 ft.

One guy drove his sports convertible down the beach in parallel with his large chocolate lab who was running thru the ocean waves like his tail was on fire. Later, the guy was driving back with the lab in the passenger seat. They both look filled with joy. Made me happy just to be near by.
