Almost Monday July 30

Good evening
the family of 10 left on Thursday. We had such a great time. The children were marvellous and was sorry to see them go.
on Friday was doing laundry etc etc and a phone call from my best friend said that her 40 year old son had been found dead. Cause not yet known. Total shock! 2 small children, an bitter alcoholic estranged wife and bereft parents who are at a loss.
It is a mess. No will.
The thing with tears are that when you have wept and wept you think that there can't possibly be any more, there are always more.
Lots of cooking as family arrive so am busy. Lots of laundry and lots of just everything that goes into grief.
this too shall pass but right now it does not seem so.
Carbon, so sorry about your BFF's son. Such a tragedy ! I aspire to kayak in unique settings, but man..to haul it up a mountain, then blow it up... that's dedication ! As usual Shel, your photos are fabulous ! Vicarious hiking ! Cecily, congratulations on your hard won peace ! Your dad's trip through the channel should be amazing. Peps, your shed turned out great ! You have all of August to settle in and get it just how you want it. Miss Bonnie, thanks for your thoughts on shame v. guilt. What I experienced was intense and visceral, and something I ate to numb as a child and adolescent. Seems like it would be beneficial to do some more inner child healing work.
Sadie and I walk with our Vet Amalia this morning. I have errands to run, including depositing a Petplan insurance check. After Sadie blew her knee at two years, I got pet insurance which I had basically forgotten about. After all of her allergy bills...I filed a claim and was reimbursed for a good portion of the bills and Epinephrine Rx ! I signed Atlas up over the weekend.

But first ... Carbon, I'm so sorry your friend has lost her son at a young age under such painful cir****tances. I know you hurt for her. I've read that tears of grief contain biochemicals that reduce pain, and in my recent experience that seems to be true. As you said, tears don't stop of their own accord, which must be a good thing when we're suffering.
My weekend visit here from my friend and her dogs has been a happy time. She leaves this morning. Since Friday night we've gone on lots of walks across meadows and through forests, laughed a lot, drunk much very good red wine and eaten a lot of charcuterie boards.
The wine and charcuterie have translated to many fewer veggies and fruits and a lot more calories than I'm used to. BTW, it's now clear, after all my travels and so much time spent with friends and family after my husband died in January, that socializing involves a LOT more alcohol and calories.
This week will continue to be challenging on alcohol and celebratory food fronts. Tomorrow night I'm hosting two friends at the monthly themed dinner at a restaurant (this time it's Vietnamese food). On Thursday I'll fly to Pennsylvania for a family wedding where there'll be many alcoholic, non-veggie/fruit meals. It's past time I developed a healthier way of drinking and eating on the road. Mindfulness and discipline will be involved.
David, it is so good to hear your voice. Miss Bonnie, I noticed that 144.6 number -- congratulations! BTW, those crackers are beyond my ability; I didn't realize human beings could actually make crackers. Shel, your lake pictures are amazing; how wonderful that human beings put privies in places like that and, even better, clean them out so the waste doesn't spoil all that natural beauty.
Today it's aquarobics, errands, housecleaning and paperwork. And, happily, no construction workers will be here because I'm awaiting insurance approval before authorizing the roofers to get started.
Today's theme: T.G.I.M.
P.S. I also have chigger bites ... 'tis that season.

So sorry for your friend's loss Carbon. It is so devastating when someone dies so young.
Weight 119, calories 1550. Yep, more calories with friend shared food and alcohol. We had a cookout here last night. It was fun and easy. I realize that I've been doing less entertaining since DH has been declining, but as long as it is an early evening and the preparation not too onerous it works out well.
I had a conversation with recovered alcoholic BIL last night. He mentioned that SIL (the one who lives with us in Florida and near us here) was complaining about looking older than she is and commented that he thought she was unhealthy because of her alcohol consumption. I had been shocked in Florida when I realized she had a minimum of 4 drinks a night and ate way less food (especially protein) than I do to compensate for the alcohol calories. BIL used to live with her and said she has been doing that for at least 10 years or more. She does seem to be getting more bent over and has very little muscle. We worry about what will happen if she gets sick.
Today I have to pay the pesky bills, go to yoga, and go to a luncheon with the Alzheimer's Support group. I may skip eating lunch there and just have coffee as it is a bagel place (but I'll see if there is a menu online to check out first).
We may go to Block Island, RI this week as it was on my summer list of places to check out. I think Thursday might be the best weather day for it.
I agree: T.G.I.M.!

Good morning!
Carbon, I am so sorry about your news. What a tragedy. And losing a child (no matter his age) is unimaginable. Prayers for all, but particularly those little two.
When I read TGIM, I groaned out loud. But honestly, why not make the most of it?!
Paula, once the current critter problem is taken care of (I vote for cats) then you might consider tucking bounce dryer sheets around. That's a pro-tip from our mechanic who suggested tucking a couple into one of our car's engines. Rats had been taking veggie's from my garden (rude!) and eating them in the car.
Well, I suppose I must get ready for work -- TGIM and all that jazz. I'll post a few more (very similar) pics of Colchuck. I wish you all could have lunch with me there.

Wow! I really like Colchuck. That lakewater looks like glacial melt, although I can't imagine that it really is.

Oh Carbon, your poor friend...
Not much going on today. The house needs cleaning and it's so pretty out that time on the deck is going to be required too. Maybe washing the car? Watering flowers, laundry, weeding my disaster of an unplanted veggie garden, playing with the dogs, so much to do! I think a walk is in order too.
Hope good Mondays are on tap for all of you!
