Up too early again this morning. Weight at 3:00 am was the same as yesterday. I'm definitely taking a Tylenol PM tonight (thought I didn't need one last night -- ha!).

The good conversations here have helped me realize that, for now, I want to focus more on mindful eating than intuitive eating.

Otherwise, I have nothing new to add and want only more caffeinated veggies.

Except to say that Shel's latest hiking pix and training regimen are blowing my mind. Shel, you're living one of my many dream lives. My dream lives aren't very congruent, e.g., 4,000 foot elevation gain hikes in the PNW and Venetian lobster risotto. Then there's my very congruent real life, e.g., mowing dry fields, wrangling lost bulls, and trying to charm insurance adjusters who look askance at the hail damage on my roof.

Today's theme: I'm going without a theme today.

EDIT: P.S. If you want some entertainment, google: "People who don't like intuitive eating"

Good Morning Mower Matadors, Aunt Dodgers, Goat Whisperers and Assorted Resilient Puzzle-It-Through ers !

I spent yesterday with a four hour drive, each way, home to a funeral for an elderly family friend, the final husband in my parents circle of friends to pass away (leaving four widows). It was the first time many people had seen me at a healthy weight, which blew their minds. What blew my mind (apparently this is common knowledge) is that when Taps is played at a military burial, the trumpeter places a device in the trumpet horn, to "play" a flawless rendition, fingers and lips in synch. Who knew ?

Have LOVE, LOVED the conversation in recent days. To me, the 10 Principles of Intuitive Eating should be called the 10 Principles of Living a Healthy Life. Interesting to note, five principles begin with Honor or Respect, and an additional two with Discover and Make Peace. Can't go wrong there !

I would have to align with Buddha's middle way when it comes to abstinence v. moderation. My relationship with food is a constantly changing thing, and I have to adapt/adjust strategies and planning to successfully maintain. For instance, I can eat a few nuts or avocado daily with no consequence and then start to have head hunger (I want NUTS/Avocado v. I am hungry) for them, and then might choose to pull back on them for a bit. I agree that no one belief system fits all and no one approach fits me all of the time. Love sharing with and learning from all of you to expand my repertoire of responses !

Off to honor, respect, discover and make peace !!

Weight 118.4, calories around 2000.

We had a good day yesterday with 2 SILs and the 2 daughters of one of them. The visiting SIL was the one whose DH came to Florida and drank all week. She had a bit of a crying spell last night because she is retiring next month and is feeling so unhappy and alone with him. She won't leave him, but spends no time with him (even though in the same house). He is fully down the alcoholic rathole. And I feel guilty because even though previously he was willing to rent in Florida somewhere near us so my SIL would have friends nearby, now he wants to rent near one of his buddies (who I suspect is a drinking pal). He says she can come visit us periodically (not likely as it would be about 7.5 hours drive between the locations). I think this may be at least partly because I confronted him on his drinking at the end of his Florida stay. He has also avoided coming with her to visit here since then. So she is as alone as I am with an uncommunicative DH, but mine at least has no choice. I know alcoholism is a disease, but it is a tough one to deal with when the individual refuses to even try to be treated.

I got DH an Echo to use for accessing music at the suggestion of another wife whose DH has Alzheimer's. I think I have to get a Prime Music Unlimited Account to fully access a lot of music, but I'm not sure yet. So far, I've only gotten Alexa to tell me the weather and to play a couple of things from iHeartRadio.

Liz, I have have a subscription to Prime music and use it all the time. They have a million play lists available, too....I sometimes will look at their massive list and just pick one. Or, I just say to an empty room "Alexa, play cleaning music playlist" and sure enough there is a playlist for that.

I feel for your SIL. Breaking up is hard to do.

I have a friend in her early sixties who's exploring a legal separation from her long-time husband who makes her life a living hell. He's not an alcoholic, merely an incredibly selfish, emotionally abusive asshole.

I will note unnecessarily that breaking up later in life requires that permanent legal and financial guide rails be put in place to safeguard estate plans.

Although in your SIL's case, it sounds like her husband is working very hard to drink himself to death, so breaking up may be unnecessary. (She said heartlessly.)

Oh, no-no-n-freaking NO on the proposed move. Sounds like SIL's DH is fixing his self up to conveniently engage in an ongoing three way orgy (DHDrinking BuddyAlcohol). I know the preferred draw-desire-necessity for me in regards to drinking AND compulsive overeating when I was practicing it was necessary access and isolation. The more, the better- the more Kurt was away (at work- out in the garden or spending time with the grown kids) the easier it was to indulge in my addictions. I am sure your SIL must know this, and she certainly has a right to her tears.

I suspect that if they make his proposed move she will indeed be very much alone. Are they financially able to maintain two rentals? Let him do what he will where he will, and she can rent a place far far away from the hell hole he wants to take her to.

Unfortunately I don't think SIL feels that they can live separately for financial reasons (probably others too).

Good morning!

So many dream lives, so little time.

I have enjoyed that recent chatter here, too. It occurs to me that I mostly want a tasty, healthy (my definition of both tasty and healthy) diet running in the background of my life, without a lot of fuss or muss.

Yesterday, I mentioned my glee about DH's doctor telling him (in my presence) that he needs to stop dairy. Well, DH had no memory of that conversation....he was still too looped up from procedure meds. So, I got to relive The Glee again when I gave him the doc's follow up plans! So joyful!

I need to get a move on....busy day of preparing for a 3 hour presentation tomorrow.

But, before I go, I'll try to post pics from hike that I haven't already posted. They all look alike in the little rectangles! In the first one, in the middle-right back, and almost mixed into the clouds, is Glacier Peak, another glaciated volcano of the Cascades. It is deeper into the wild Cascades, unlike Rainier, which seems like an urban hipster.
