Leave it to Ann to find the good in a rough experience. And to do the statistics. If I looked 40% younger I would look 40. Fat chance of anyone ever guessing that as my age. So glad you got out of this with mostly a sore arm. And hey, not so bad that there is no belly fat to grab. Lets hope you never need rabies treatment! (but I think they don't do them in belly anymore). ds
ps. The senior discount age here is 60 or 62. The politically correct clerks at the health food store say "and is there anyone with you today who qualifies for senior discount?" LOL and I am alone!!!
LOL, maybe I will say that one of my multiple personalities is a civil war veteran!
And hey, speaking of age, I just took a vintage BIC turntable to the thrift store. I told the young twenty-something that it was a perfectly good turntable. She didn't know what that was - thought it was a piece of furniture. I had to explain that it was a record player for old vinyl records!. ds
Greetings TGIF-ers
Today is really TGFGD day. Thank God for Good Doctors. Cecily what an experience. We are grateful that you got checked out and had a doctor who erred on the side of caution. Glad you are not feeling pain and wishing you an uneventful recovery.
Perspective certainly is a deep word. So much human conflict is due to inability to see things from the other's point of view. It seems like somewhere there is an actual true truth but its distorted by the prisms and fun house mirrors of all of our minds. And some of us (me) have a gift for jumping to the most negative of conclusions in any given set of cir****tances. I have learned over the years that most of the time when I consider someone's remark as negative that in fact it was not intended as such. Just my perspective.
So how does all this navel contemplating relate to weight loss and maintenance? I dunno except that there is more than one way to look at ourselves and our cir****tances - the pants are either overly full or maybe its just the wrong pair of pants.
Cecily's recent experience (and of course that of Paula and others who have recently been down that road) does have a way of snapping us back to reality and gratitude. So I will be grateful I am down half a pound today instead of up more. And grateful that healthy food is readily available to me and that I am not a refugee in a war zone.
Ann, have a great trip and hope we get a few "peeks". But if we have to wait we can.
BB, the shopping trip sounds like fun. You really are doing the step parent thing right. Indeed, kids are always watching. Its what you do that matters, not just what you say. I bet those kids are really getting off on having Becca around.
Yep, midwestern hospitality is much like southern - at least in the food department. Loads and loads of it. Ever have a Thanksgiving dinner where there were no leftovers? Of course not. Actually the best thing about such holiday meals is the leftovers so you don't have to cook for a few days. I say make the full on version of things and eat a modest amount. Big quantities of mediocre food is what got us all in trouble. The French have the right idea - small portions of exquisite food and no snacking.
Peps, travel weight is a tough thing to avoid. And dog show food is notoriously the worst stuff and terrible. Plus you have to go out to a nice dinner to celebrate after the show is over.
Miss 150, I sure wish I had a house brownie like your grandmother. Actually what I need is the Seven Dwarves who would come in while we are out of town and haul away all the unnecessary junk we have.
Shel, hope to hear what hikes you have this weekend as this must be the peak hiking season. We will likely take dogs to the beach.
Stay cool all you heat wave victims. Sugar free popsicles all around. Diane S
Perspective and breathe. Makes sense. We know perspective is easily skewed by mood, situation, and experience. Finding the opening to take a breath is good advice.
Travel weight is going away.
Cecily, so glad you are being discharged (or by now, have been!).
Paula, glad you are hanging with your "church ladies". That will be good for your soul!
Not sure what else I can add today. I'm in a pissy mood. Various reasons for the pissy mood. It is what it is...
So, rather than focus on negatives, I'm instead going to focus on being actively productive. Off I go now to fill out a building permit application (in arrears, naturally... last year the house was going to burst into a ball of flames because our electrical service box was about to blow - seriously, it was melting inside... I was tight on cash and didn't get the permit after the emergency installation, as I should have. Now I need the permit to have the solar turned on.)
I think I shall plan a dump run for next week, too. Will help me to purge some crap that I simply don't need around here.
