Good morning everyone.

Paula trusting all went well yesterday, you and yours must be exhausted.

The planned trips abroad sound very exciting. Yay, but thumbs down for long complicated gov forms about taxes ( truly anything the gov does is complicated)

Had a bit of an epiphany yesterday. Finally figured it out that for nearly three years have not been able to walk downhill because of the severe knee pain. Which means of course that avoided going uphill. Walking on flat surfaces was ok but towards the end could only manage that by using a cane.

And because this town is on a hillside there are nothing but ups and downs. So yesterday puffed and turned blue going up a short but fairly steep hill and came down with no pain. Fabulous! However after the nearly three years of being mostly bedridden because of pain and then the two surgeries am woefully out of shape.

I forsee a lot of walking in my future but that is a gooooood thang.

Enjoy this day to do welding, flying, gardening and just plain vegging.

Cecily ! Your upcoming New Zealand hiking adventure sounds like perfection !!! Soo excited for you ! I looked into Backroads, and the Machu Picchu options call to me, as does Sedona. I'm feeling a high spiritual energy options ! Ann, while the watermelon theme was tempting, Lutheran Red looks like an awesome choice ! You go for it !! Carbon, when I first started walking again after VSG and postponing knee replacement, I used walking sticks. Paula, thinking of you and the boys !! Even from way over here, I can feel your over the top enthusiasm for high grass mowing. Different recess for different folks, for sure!

Back when we were thinking about group trips, Sedona came to mind, by the way. ;)

Good morning!

Carbon, how wonderful to have functioning knees! Gratitude abounds.

New hike today. Supposedly, the sun will shine (where are you, sun?) and everyone will be compressed onto the few snowless trails.

I did find a new trail of adequate difficulty. I still worry that I won't be up to the physical task but I can always turn around. This trail includes a section that is particularly steep which would thin the crowds out. I shall take bear spray today.

Which reminds me that I should look at how the bear spray works.

Have a great day, all!!!!

Shel

Shel, I know you're a true grown-up and have been adulting for some time now. But I do think (I won't say "worry") about you on some of those trails you traverse.

Looking forward to pics from your adventure today.

Do you have a bear bell too? My cousin's family take one on hikes near their place in Canada (just attached to a backpack). Apparently, they stay away from the noise one hopes?

I've heard mixed reviews about bear bells. There are mixed reviews on pretty much everything, it seems. The people who scoff at bear bells say there are too many situations where the bears don't hear them.

I thought about carrying a button like those (Staples? Office depot?) that you push and it says "That was easy!" Or, one of the people that I work with has a button that he pushes and it says "NO!"

I do own a bear bell, because I own of everything.

Carbon, the great thing about walking is that you don't forget how to do it and I think you can build up stamina pretty fast. It is the one exercise I've always enjoyed (even as a child) and I think it keeps all the important bodily stuff going. My grandmother walked every day but never did any formal exercise and lived to just short of 101. Her brother was the same (lived to 98).

Weight? Calories lots. I ate my planned protein bars on the way home, but I was tired and frustrated when I got home, then I had insomnia until 3:30 am. So I ate... Not too much crap, but too much altogether.

So why was I frustrated and eating crap? I took my expensive watch and the 4 silver/gold bracelets that I always wear (and love) off and put them in a ziplock to take through security. It was supposed to go in my purse, but I can't find it ANYWHERE! I am hoping I left it in our room on the counter and housekeeping turned it in. If not, I am so upset about losing them.

Anyway, that led to everything getting unpacked last night (not put away) and my obsessing until 3:30.

On a brighter note, Justice was overjoyed to see us. When he heard us come in he raised a huge racket in his crate and was licking us from head to toe! He is now comfortably ensconced on my lap as I type this.

I need to go back and read about the trips more closely. They looked really interesting! In the meantime, have a satisfactory Sunday!

There is nothing quite so welcoming as a dog greeting you home. We had a skipperkey that just made us happy to get home. Only dog I know of that sheds more than a lab. And such a small dog.
