My brother had solar put on his house to fuel his EV and his very large monthly bills. He had a boat load of solar put on and actually got paid several thousand dollars from the utility company at the end of the year. Now, of course, the utility company is allowed to keep all excess energy produced free of charge and still charge the solar owner 10 bucks per month for the privilege of doing so!
We had the same when it was a lease deal. It wasn't worth it. Now, we will break even for a few years, but in about 4 years we'll start spending less having solar. If I didn't have to finance (and I will pay off the solar with some inheritance money when it becomes available) it would be a sweet right now. My electric bill now averages just over $100 over the year. I'll be paying $91 on the loan and the system is designed to cover 102% of my current usage. I figure it's a wash and a good thing for Mother Earth.
Well we would love solar on our roof and we have a perfect exposure. But our roof is 25 years old and I worry it needs replacing before we put solar up. Also, NO WAY would I let DH do it. His propensity for making a mess of things is renown. You should see the grout he put in the kitchen without asking me. It looks like a three year old applied a tube of toothpaste! He is a dear soul but his projects are terrifying. ds
