Well, to be honest, I wish I was dreaming instead of wide awake. This not sleeping business is turning out to be the norm and am not impressed one whit. Dang.

back volunteering at the thrift store and bought home all the silverware to polish, being a glutten for punishment.

The middle of the week is upon us and the weekend is just days away.

thinking of you Paula and family.

Thinking of Aruba as it is just lashing down.

Calories were up yesterday, thanks to that ladies club meeting--damn those desserts!). And the scale stayed the same.

Last night I had bad acid reflux, which kept me up later. Sugar seems to be harder on my stomach than any other food. I'm going to cut out berries and yogurt after dinner for a while and see if that helps. I'll eat those earlier in the day.

Today's going to be full--the pool, an early lunch with a friend, a museum visit, a few errands, and a chiropractic appointment at 3:00. I'll be gone from 8:30 until 4:30. Gee, sounds almost like a J-O-B. Might have lost my balance there.

Oh, and yesterday afternoon I reconnected via phone with a good friend from my California days. We hadn't spoken in almost ten years. The weird thing was that yesterday she had said to her husband, "I wonder how Ann's doing?" Then she came home to a voice mail message from me. Hey, it wasn't a dream visit from my husband, but it was sufficiently woo-woo for a Tuesday.

Today's theme: Faith opens the mind to the possibility of things that cannot be immediately experienced or understood.

More "faith" thoughts I like-

Faith produces works prompted by love and inspired by hope, which is the promise and assurance of things not yet manifest.

Weight 119.2, calories 1744. DEFINITELY time to dial back on my vacation eating! I have been walking 5 miles a day which is good, but those evening calories are too high.

Carbon, insomnia is really a terrible thing. I had it for a year or two (maybe longer) after I lost my DD and it really affects everything. I was using prescription medications for a while but then they stopped working well and I don't think I got the same quality of sleep with them anyway. I finally developed a set of "sleep rules" that I try not to vary from to promote sleeping and they really work well for me now.

Ann, isn't that amazing that you and your friend connected at the same time like that?

We went to a great restaurant last night, but it was very expensive and as mentioned previously too many calories. DH wasn't in bed until after 10 so hopefully he will sleep late this morning. He got up at one point in the middle of last night and was quite confused.

I am missing my little Justice this morning and hope he is doing well with DS (and doesn't feel abandoned). Since he was a shelter dog, I'm a little worried about that.

Have a well Wednesday!

Quick check in with thoughts for the day:

  1. Trust your gut (literally and figuratively)
  2. Treat yourself as well as you treat your beloved animals

Those of you on Facebook know that Atlas stopped eating Monday night and started to become lethargic. By Yesterday morning, he was throwing up and refusing to eat and drink. He would lay in one spot, refuse toys and then his tail wagging began to decrease. We were at the Vet's office door at 8AM when they opened. Atlas had a 104 fever. The Vet didn't check his ears, barely palpated his abdomen and gave him an anti nausea shot and some antibiotics... which the Vet couldn't even get down his throat. I kept insisting that something was seriously wrong... Atlas was absolutely not even close to being himself. There was previously a female Vet in the practice we LOVED, but she's gone and this guy specializes in horses and large animals, as it turns out.

We arrived home and I began to look for other Vets. I had already eliminated the other town vet from consideration and the Vets recommended by our breeder and trainer weren't able to fit in an emergency patient. Highly renowned Cornell Veterinary School is in Ithaca, an hour and a half away. They are open 24/7 and have every possible piece of diagnostic equipment and specialist close at hand, as they are an annex to the medical college. I was able to get a late afternoon appointment, where they promptly admitted Atlas, started IV fluids, did bloodwork and an ultrasound. There is no blockage, and his kidney and liver function levels are good. He has a thickening in par of his stomach and his stomach lymph nodes were enlarged. All sorts of markers for infection and inflammation in bloodwork, so they added IV antibiotic. The current thinking is some sort of gastro infection.

Atlas and Sadie share everything, including poop treats, and this morning, Sadie is vomiting. The doctors haven't rounded yet, but I called to check in and update them on Sadie. Atlas has eaten a bit of bland food and kept it down, isn't taking water and has not peed, so is still on IV. They will see Sadie today when we hopefully pick up Atlas.

Established patients in this practice can be seen 24/7...no exceptions. Emergency new patients will be seen as they can be scheduled during normal office hours. I want the peace of mind that both dogs are established here, and can be seen as needed. Also looking for a new vet, closer to home for routine things.

So my friends, take a good look at what you would gladly do for a beloved family member, and love on yourself that well. Listen to the truth inside of you. You know.

Looks to be a warm one. I, too, was up early, but with the happy expectation of getting some desk work accomplished- which turned into a ripe mess and has totally discombobulated and disrupted my sense of flow and peace.

I might just be able to re-set the day by doing the following - Trot upstairs and take a nice shower- dress- and sort through the fabrics I pulled out of the chest to choose just the right combination of colors and patterns for a crazy quilt I intend to get started this summer. I hand piece and if I work steadily at it, will be ready to quilt this winter. My plan is to incorporate many pieces of family embroidered cloths and antique lace and tatting that need to be displayed- into this quilt. A project I've had in mind for a very long time, now.

Off for fun stuff. Find fun today!

We just received word that the clinical trial DH has been in for the last year is being discontinued as the drug does not slow the progression of Alzheimer's as hoped for. Unfortunately the more trials that fail the less likely that pharmaceutical firms will be willing to fund research. We are sad about that and will be sad to not see the people we worked with at BU Medical Center who were excellent at what they did and became friends.

We had been waffling about whether to continue into the next phase anyway since it didn't seem to be helping. But dissappointing and sad nonetheless.
