Good morning hopeful, healing, health minded friends ! We are all great at taking responsibility for NOT doing what we intended to do, but let's make some space for good choices/actions we've worked hard to develop that we may be starting to take for granted. When my mother would call my elderly grandmother daily and grandma would start to list everything that wasn't going as planned, my mother instituted a 2 for 1 rule. Grandma had to share two positives for every negative. What a swift and lasting change in outlook that simple rule made. I try to use this approach when being gentle with myself, and when coaching others... works every time !
Did the field walk yesterday, which is also beautiful and peaceful in its own way ! Last week of therapy dog work in schools, for the summer !
Remember the 2 for 1 effect !
Age: 64; 5' 5"; High weight: 345; Start weight: 271 (01/05/15); Surgery weight: 218 (05/27/15); Pre-Op (-53); M 1 (-18); M 2 (-1.5); M 3 (-13.5 ); M 4 (-13); M 5 (- 8); M 6 (-12) M 7 (-5, Xmas); M 8 (- 9) Under surgeon's goal and REACHED HEALTHY BMI 12/07/15!! (Six months and one week.) AT GOAL month 8. Maintaining at goal range (139- 144) ~ four (4) years !!
Just moving this, as we must have posted at the same time...
Weight 116.4 (with bathing suit on in gym), calories 1351. Not bad. I did okay last night with food. At 5 I was hungry but we weren't going to eat for a few hours so I had an egg, cottage cheese and some turkey pepperoni. It made me feel quite full without delving into crackers and cheese.
We didn't do much yesterday other than walk both lengths of the beach (we are in the middle of a long expanse). DH was kind of a walking zombie most of the day. Hopefully he will be better today as I think he slept better last night (I did). But it may take a few days of adjustment for him. I felt like this might be his last year when he was so confused prior to dinner. But then we ate at the bar here and he chatted quite amiably with a couple from Indiana for a long time and sounded like he was fine. Interesting... they do say the social chitchat (along with music) is retained for longer than most other mental skills.
Have a marvelous Monday if you can!

Sunday morning on the deck was glorious! Meditation and yoga with a lot of focus on restoration poses, while listening to the "Deuter Radio" Pandora channel and birds chattering.
Diane O, here are my 2 for 1s of yesterday: (1) No ice cream, (2) Weeding, and (3) Red wine at ****tail hour, which I'd forgotten can trigger a little evening acid reflux, so lesson relearned.
I'm thinking this morning of all the challenges amongst our group members recovering from surgeries, caring for spouses, rearing and supporting children, navigating tough jobs and second jobs. Amidst these responsibilities, we're finding different paths to caring for ourselves. Being human, we're not perfect. Fortunately that's not the goal. :)
Today's theme: Be here now. And smile. :)

Good morning!
DianeO, your post today is just what I needed. Both the 2 for 1 rule and that lovely picture of blacktop running between fields. (What's the crop? Do you know? I tried to zoom in but couldn't tell.)
Back in the day, I biked a million miles on roads that looked just like that, including the ziggy tar repairs on the very edge, right where my tires traveled. I can feel the sunburn on my back.
1) The upstairs is clean! All of it! 2) Downstairs is not far behind. 3) My food environment is not entirely controlled. (Even the NYT's (re)posted an article that the 1st rule of self control is not expose yourself to temptation.
Paula, thinking of you (just in case you thought I forgot.) You too, Cecily! I hope nothing new happened overnight. David, hows the farm life? And the pain???? Miss150, hope you are doing well!
Have a wonderful day, all. Shel

I Love the 2 for one effect idea.
Sometimes it's easy, sometimes it's not...(sometimes you feel like a nut...sometimes you don't--the cir****tances of life don't change things happen--attitudes and feelings about them do...there in lies the change).
Here goes- 154.6 today. ON the one hand, according to my little weight tracking computer program, I will reach my goal, based on the trend of this last month in June of 2019. Big whoop, right? On the other hand, last June (5th), I weighed 264 #s. Same number on the scales--154--same response--BIG WHOOP!-RIGHT. Totally different attitude.
Again, another... I was out this morning early walking and thinking and praying some. Cecily and Paula, of course came to mind, my heart breaks for and wishes healing of all kinds there...and then I also realized just how blessed I am to have a community of people (you all) that I care so much for- to pray for. How lucky I am to have such wonderful (cyber or no) friends.
So, ya- 2 for one, or in this case today- 3 for 3. I've been mulling over a request from OH to write an article about my regain/loss experience. I can write ok, I guess, but it is always more work than a joy to me, and I'm still unpacking the experience..(trying to figure out the whole "what the hell..." about it all. Well, anyway, I think I will try to look at it this way--maybe writing will help me figure it out and maybe help others as opposed to- How can I make any sense of this that others will understand when I haven't (perfectly) figured it out myself. Looking at this the one way I can't possibly, looking the other way, maybe I can.
