Weight's nudging up again. This is a bit different than my usual scale behavior when I'm eating fewer calories than I'm accustomed to eating. But I'll forge ahead and try for another Persistence Prize.

I'm also having difficulties again with my Procrastination Proclivities. This time the unmet challenge is exercising my new but not yet comfy online banking bill paying skills. I will bear down on that this morning.

I think it's possible the real deal with my scales not performing as predictably as they once did is that I'm not as active in the house throughout the day as I was when I was caring for my dear husband. I'm cooking less, mopping bathrooms less often, doing fewer loads of laundry, not bringing him things or checking on him often. And goodness knows, there's a lot less conversation around here--something I sorely miss. But probably the greater factor is that a 16-day cruise / 3-week vacation and not going to the pool for 7 weeks takes longer than a month to overcome.

Today's affirmation from Buddha: "Every morning we are born again. What we do today is what matters most."

Weight 116.2, calories 785. It is the third day in a row at this weight while calories are relatively low. I was looking back on my weights in MFP and it seems like I frequently get stuck in a holding pattern around this point. Maybe it is my "true" weight/setpoint? Who knows? I'm just going to continue trying to stay on plan for the next few days until Aruba. This is the third time we've gone to Aruba since WLS, and I don't really get terribly off-plan for the most part except I'll have a glass of wine more often, will have some snacks on the beach periodically in the late afternoon when a group is getting together to watch the sunset, and I'll have a piece of bread at dinner when it is good bread. But regardless I like to go into the vacation as low in my range as I can get myself.

Speaking of vacations, we finally booked the Paris part (through a friend of mine). We will be gone from September 1-16 to Scotland, Northern Ireland, then Paris. The Scotland/Ireland part is a tour with a group that SIL is a member of (we've done other vacations with them in the past). Paris is just DH, SIL and me. In Paris we have one all day tour included (Louvre, etc), and I am booking an Eiffel Tower dinner/river cruise for one night. Other than that, we will have access to a local host to book more if we want to. Because DH will be very tired, we didn't want to overbook.

Have a wake-up Wednesday!

Weight: Didn't check today

Today's early rising is brought to me by my neck giving out. I think spending so much time sitting means I just am not comfortable for very long in any position. Can't wait to be active again one day.

I had fun at the movies and dinner last night. Book Club was very cute. I'm not much of a Jane Fonda fan, but really like the rest of the stars. And Andy Garcia is still drool worthy at 62! Diane Keaton's style is so quirky, but I love it on her. I bet she puts a scarf rider in her contracts. Anyway, echoing what Devon said a week or so ago, I think you all would enjoy it! At dinner the chairs were these uncomfortable, hard tiny cafe chairs. I didn't last long in them. But still managed to make it through dinner, just not a lot of chit chat afterward. Anyway, I survived the outing and had a good time (and thankfully didn't have to pee!).

Not much else to report. I hope everyone has a good Wednesday!

Good morning everyone

Ann I do know of which you speak re: DH. Painful. And Liz the Aruban and European trips sound so very nice. Cecily good for you for getting out and about. We saw the Book Club last night as well.

It is downright chilly here.

Have a truly wonderful Wed although am not sure where Monday or Tuesday went.

Sadie and I just got back from our elementary school therapy dog visit. After next week, summer recess for us too ! Luckily the 4 & 8 year olds next door will provide some kid fixes. I was in the kitchen making dinner last night when Julia (4) stood at the fence and called for Sadie to come out. Their golden, Cooper, loves to run the fence with Atlas.

Damp and cool here too. I'm still mowing more than once a week, and got both the front and back done yesterday, between rain drops. The Book Club sounds like it is worth seeing. Luckily DH is willing to see something light and fun like that if he's in the right mood. Wait for it...it will come. Loving the Buddhist affirmations. Whenever I see him in my garden, I try to be still and open myself to his wisdom.

Take time to be still.

Good morning!

Enjoying the chit-chat of the last couple of days tho unable to join the fun. So nice to see Cecily out of the chair and others planning fabulous trips. And BB and DianeS at the gym! You go girls (Becca, too!). DianeO, you have created such a nice home in a short amount of time. Even your pics have peace in them.

I have been struggling with DH about a longstanding health issue that is limiting him more and more. Two days ago, I learned that the reason he has been weird about vacations this year (as in refusing to do anything) is because he has burned thru his sick time and needs to save vacation for when his IBS (?? or whatever it is) acts up. Unacceptable! What kind of life is that?

Anyhoo, after a fair amount of back and forth, he agreed to call his GI doc about specific symptoms and today he dropped off a sample.

(I feel empathy for this man and he has had a very hard couple of years with his parents and I think he is likely depressed. But, just between us, can we pause to appreciate how hard it is for me not to show extreme exasperation at all his "they can't help me" reasons for not contacting his GI doc? He is using up his vacation on sick time, for heavens sake!)

I am hoping for an infection that can be treated with antibiotics. If not, he is scheduled for a flip (endoscopy and colonoscopy) where the doc will take samples from everywhere to see if his micro-biome is amiss. (The evidence based person in me is wondering if they really know what a healthy micro-biome is but more than willing to watch and see what happens)

None of this will be a quick fix (tho fingers crossed for infection) but at least he is back in care and (more importantly) engaged.

We all get stuck sometimes, right? There are so many versions of stuck. One thing I like (and hate) about my gym is they spring various benchmark workouts on us. Today, it was 23 minutes of either running or power walking so the goal is to see how far you can get. I thought about PW'ing cuz I rock that but decided my "stuck" is running so I did that instead. It turns out I can run for 23 minutes and not die.....how about that? I missed my random target by 0.05 mile so I have something to shoot for the next time it is sprung on us.

Embrace your stuck,

Shel

In the interest of full disclosure, I found two more bad wound spots this morning. I'm officially a bad healer. I see the doctor day after tomorrow. Anxious for his opinion.

I bet he will still say that you are ahead of most in healing. Doctors have such a different perspective. .

One time, a doctor told me that I have "high expectations" with one eyebrow so high it was stuck on the ceiling. Silly doctor.
