Greetings Memorial Day Celebrators
Yes, it is indeed a day to honor our service men and women who sacrificed for us all. My mother's only sibling was killed in WW2 in Italy. I never met him. My grandmother saved all the letters he wrote while overseas. We each have a set of copies. Makes me grateful to live where I do and lead the life I have.
Up to 149 today. We went to a cook out at friends yesterday and had a great time. I had part of a chicken-mango sausage, various healthy things but a few bites of a divine fluffy creme cake. Ditto some crackers and too much wine.
Carbon, so sorry your knee is still hurting. Stairs must be a fright for now and hope that improves. You have been such an avid walker it must be hard to be still.
Hey BB, sounds like you had a great day. Smoked brisket sounds so good. Hug little Becca.
Liz, off to Aruba! sounds like a good time. I keep looking at cruise brochures but its so wonderful here in the summer I think why should we leave?
Paula, thinking of you and your family as always.
Well its Monday so kiln opens even though its a holiday. Its always a holiday at our studio.
I think I will make popeye pie tonight for dinner. It always seems to be a good low cal protein option. Plus it lasts three days for us. Meanwhile, time for coffee. Diane S
Am home after a great evening with the old loft friends, and here's my Memorial Day post:

Thanks everyone for your kind words regarding the grad pictures and for your thoughts regarding the Caring Bridge post. I too think the time is right. Ben is just so weak! Love that Man and any time we have to spend with each other is sweet time! He has a friend from WV (the best man in our wedding) that will come for a visit tomorrow.
Hello all!
I can't say that I did anything in particular to honor the fallen today. This is very different than what I grew up with. Back then, every small community had a service in the cemetery, complete with high school band. I played the clarinet. The band would go from cemetery to cemetery. I realize now that those towns probably schedule the service based on the band's ability to travel between towns.
Anyhoo, I worked out at 5am this morning and then headed out for a hike. Sometimes I wonder why I hike when I might prefer sitting on the couch. Or sleeping.
Today's was 4000 ft gain in 2.5 miles. Then, back down again. There is a large part of trail where there seems only to be trees and tree roots....where is the dirt? It seems rude to use roots as steps and trees as bannisters; yet this particular forest seems to be designed for that exact purpose. Many of the trees are polished smooth from thousands of anxious hands grasping them for balance.
Sometimes I listen to audio as I hike. In a podcast interview, someone was asked what 3 things one should do to be a successful human being. Her first two answers were pretty standard but the third was "put good things in, to get good things out." She was referring to everything....from food to work to relationships.
Go find some recess....there is day left for some of us! Or, at least find something good to put in.
