Yesterday was not a typical food day because I attended a luncheon for my friend who graduated from nursing school Friday night. For the first time in years I ate fried chicken. It was good! It came with mashed potatoes and corn kernels, as well as a slice of chocolate sheet cake. Last night after dinner I had some luscious fresh sliced peaches with vanilla yogurt. It was so good! So great to have the farmers' markets open again offering field-ripened veggies and fruits.

On today's menu is another big serving of mowing and more house cleaning. I also have to drive my husband's truck to town for mower fuel, mulch, potting soil and to keep the battery charged.

Today's theme: Every day matters.

Weight 118, calories 1909. At the top of my range but my fault. I had a low calorie day planned, but friends called, we went out for dinner and I made some less than optimal choices. Thank goodness my scale is a reset button!

Today is rainy and blah out (a repeat of yesterday). Hopefully it will dry out enough to take Justice for a long walk. He had the zoomies yesterday afternoon after being more cooped up than he likes, and cow and monkey were in play. It's been a long time since we had an energetic dog. He is such fun!

Tonight is my in-person support meeting, which should keep me on a low calorie day.

Have a supportive Sunday!

Hello All

it is a delight following your busy busy lives. Diane I admire your tenacity at the Gallery. Is the FUDGE sign still across the road?

week 5 coming up for the total knee replacement, the pain is slowly diminishing but sleep remains elusive. In this era of instant gratification it remains a challenge to understand that this is considered major surgery and thus TAKES TIME. As for those who spout that they had the surgery on Tuesday and were out bike riding on Friday, all I can think is hmmmmmmmmmmm.

have a good one.

Agree with hmmmmmmmmm

Carbon! I saw the fudge! More importantly, I saw DianeS and her DH!!!!

DD, a friend of hers, and I drove down Northern CA from redwood grove to redwood grove. Fabulous! Pic of DianeS in her studio and the infamous fudge below.

Liz-it's raining here too. But sometimes I like those days :) Hope support group goes well.

Ann-I'm so excited for the farmer's market. I thought about going yesterday and taking Becca, but with our brunch plans I didn't want to chance the timing. Hoping to go next week. I still love food and it sounds like you do too. It's just now I try to respect it more, savor it more. I do not subscribe to the belief that food is just fuel. It's so much more. And I think that's a healthy attitude! It's okay, maybe even good to love food. That's why I dislike eating fast food from a drive-thru so much. Casual calories are such a waste.

Carbon-recovery takes time. And so does change. I can't comment on knee replacement, but I did have Becca 10 weeks ago, and though it was an easier recovery than many new moms, I'm still faced with weight gain, some body changes (lost some of my strength during 9 months of pregnancy) and I wish I could just snap my fingers and be back. I have to lose some of this weight over again!! Grrrr. And rebuild strength. But I can and I will. It may take time. Just be kind to yourself. We're here for you.

Devon-did I read you're a math teacher?

Weight: 168.2

Wondering if some of my weight coming off was simply due to flying. I did not attempt to count calories yesterday. It wasn't a "bad" day, but it wasn't great, either. But the food was good and so was the company, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself and I don't think the scale will be up because of it. That's good enough for me! Brunch was probably the best brunch I've ever had! My sister and I split a salsa-verde-pork-benedict-grits type dish, and bananas foster pancakes. We ate about half of each (so closer to a 1/4 each for us) and the whole table loved the pancakes. I never can get sweets like that unless I'm sharing. Also had a peach/gin drink. Skipped lunch and took dinner to my parents' house: I grilled some chicken tenders that had marinated in teriyaki, garlic roasted asparagus, macaroni and cheese from sam's (to-die for even though it needs to be consumed in small amounts), and a simple salad with fat free Italian dressing. And white wine.

It's a rainy, cooler day here. DH has already left for an out-of-state conference. It's just baby and me for the next few days.

PTSD Service Dog training has shifted to the next level, in high gear. Atlas is almost seven months old, and is learning so fast ! At yesterday's class, he earned his WORKING patch. As a Service Dog in full on training mode, we can no longer allow people to approach, touch, speak to him in public. Chuck needs to expose him to movie theatres, concerts, security check points, public bathrooms, restaurants, grocery stores... any place in public he might accompany Chuck. The only dog he can play/interact with is Sadie, a member of his family pack. Unlike a bomb dog or a search dog, his job is more or less 24/7. As one of his tasks will be to support Chuck during nightmares, he has begun sleeping next to the bed. If Atlas comes to check on Chuck, Chuck has to touch him and praise him so he'll be able to discern when Chuck is unresponsive or "not responding normally", at which point desired interventions will be trained. This process is sooo interesting and exciting ! Last night, for the first time in a long time, I had a nightmare, and shouted, "No" twice. Atlas immediately came to check in with Chuck, which is exactly what he should have done. I have to let go of my desire to mother my baby and let his bond with Chuck strengthen and deepen. I'm so glad I have Sadie !!! I posted a picture of the two of them together last night on Facebook.

I am thrilled that Atlas is successfully evolving into a service dog. But, I also grieve your loss. Do you still get to cuddle and simply play with him?

I am glad you have Sadie, too!

Absolutely, YES. I have to respect the special bond Atlas has with DH, but there is significant home time for him to be a puppy. He still digs in the mud and takes my gardening tools AND gets lots of love.

Good morning!

I planned to hike but the weather turned a bit. Instead, I am going to make it a house and garden care day. I'll get my herb planter replanted plus other to-dos. I'll still get a 90 minute workout and Buster will be walked.

We are going out to a seafood Restaurant for dinner. My husband "feels like crab." Lots of choices for me.

Liz, one of the reasons I was interested in Oprah was to see a real pic, not one that was photoshopped or cleverly styled. So, hard to say if she was up or down but she is overweight, for sure. Like Cecily, I identify with her, maybe a bit too much. I hate "looking" because I then I know people look at me. I want to extend my ostrich cloak to her, too.

She has been Oprah-open about her weight battle, for sure. In some ways, having her OUT THERE shows people (like my mom) that all best intentions and resources (literally) in the world do not guarantee a healthy weight --not even buying WW's.

My brother who works full time also has a micro farm business on the side. He grows vegetables and has a beautiful road-side vegetable stand. His SO is now involved and she also puts out homemade baked goods, pickles and the like. Sometimes, he is doing the egg, chicken, beef thing, too, tho they wouldn't be on the stand, of course. I love local farm things. I'll pay more at the local food co-op because of that. I always think it is funny because my parents (the FARMERS) have no compulsion to do the same.

Find some recess today. Find your peace.

Shel

ETA a few pics in a short hike through 2nd (or 3rd) growth woods. Woodland flowers are out. Fun to see the bleeding hearts in the wild. (is "bleeding" the right name....sounds sort of gross, all typed out"
