It is so interesting how different doctors do things differently. I have had drains post surgeries for long periods of time and was never on prophylactic antibiotics. Also, my catheter was pulled pretty early....certainly pulled within 24 hours, and more likely within 6-12 hours. I was drugged so who the heck knows. (ETA, it was pulled within an hour or two.....I remember now)

Anyhoo, cipro is/was used for both complicated and uncomplicated UTI. I think that if a catheter is involved, it would be considered complicated Being on cipro certainly lessens the likelihood of UTI.

However, it isn't unusual to find out that a bug is resistant to the first antibiotic. If that is the case, the docs pivot to a different drug class. Fluoroquinolone resistance is on the upswing, in general, all over the world.

Also, you were in both a hospital and a care facility and could have had exposure to bugs that don't happen to be susceptible to cipro.

So, I would still give them a call (the weekend is coming!) As you said, if nothing else, they may have more ideas about how to manage the situation.

Enjoyed pictures of your boy being naughty. What a cutie.

I think having a catheter in for a while causes it and time will resolve it. Dave would know.

I would try an adult pull-up. I would get one a little over sized to allow for drains. Cutting them makes a mess. You can use a regular diaper and fold it into a big pad. They absorb bunches. Might also rent a bedside commode if logistics is the problem. As for your friends that you FEEL you have burdened. Would you do the same for them? The nurse side of them feels like they are glad they could help. Giving up your modesty and accepting care is hard for some people. Think of it as someone giving you a hug.

Well said, Dave! Thank you! I just had two of my knitting group members come by and I begged them to wash my hair (9 days dirty). They were happy to do it and I feel a million times more human. These episodes in life show you the best in the good people you've chosen to walk through life with!!

I just went on Prime Now and ordered some contoured Poise pads. Maybe I won't have to cut them. Worth the delivery fee to give it a try!

Eating under control so far today. More baseboard painting today. I wear knee pads with voltaren gel underneath them. It works pretty well. I have also been taking ibuprofen everyday. Sometimes twice a day. We have mice in the trailer in the woods...smart ones. I have 4 snap traps and 4 sticky traps in a 25 foot trailer. It makes me soooo mad that they just poop on everything. Last week DW was raking some leaves away from the shop and something started rattling at her. It was 10 ft away but it was a 2 1/2 foot rattle snake. I have never seen a rattlesnake. No telling how many times I had been out there tromping around with Headphones in. Not paying attention. Also we are having A/C problems. $900 for top of the line heat pump and then it won't cool. $800 for an on demand ho****er heater that does not care what I demand. I do not think it pays to go top of the line. I think I am going redneck and putting a regular window AC in it. It will be a third the price. It will look awful but I want to need to pull cover while I sleep when it is 100 degrees outside. Today is DS#1 Birthday. He is 44. They grow up so fast. I bathed and clipper Bosco, the Havenese. It was the easiest that I had ever done. Set up a fan to blow the hair away (DWs suggestion). I would much rather just pay $32 and let someone else do it. More later, David

David, I had to look up Voltaren gel -- didn't know what it was.

You'd already taught me what a Havanese was, though. :)

And I've known about redneck AC since I was a child. :)

The volteran cream is good. There is also a patch that I would cut in half and put on each knee. Flector Patch. Same basic medication. It is good to stick on a shoulder or back. Not so good for crawling around on knees. It makes a gooey mess.

I have a window a/c in my room in Michigan. I have it rigged to keep the driving Lake Michigan thunderstorms out. It does the job!

Holy Moly, Guacamole! Just felt like saying that - no reason! LOL!

I think most of you know, I'm not a big breakfast guy when I get up. I like having my coffee and then eating an hour or two after getting up. During school it's usually about 3.5 hours after I get up that I eat. Then, it's about every two -3 hours until bedtime. Odd way to eat, I know, but it seems to work for me. Anyhow...

Day 4 is going well. Interesting thing happened this morning with my later breakfast. I heated up my Jimmy Dean Delight and decided to throw away the top half of the english muffin. My rationale was that I could then eat the banana I brought to eat today. Hmmmm....banana over english muffin???? Interesting indeed.

Ron called and asked if he could bring home pizza for dinner. I said sure. He then double checked to make sure that pizza "worked with what you're doing right now" (food wise). I thought that was considerate. Pizza is not ideal, but it's not a quart of ice cream, 4 bakery cookies, danish, doughnuts, Reese's PB cups, etc..... So, I'm guessing dinner will be pizza and salad.

Today's food: Jimmy Dean Delight thingamajig, banana, about 25 cherries, salad with chicken, grilled corn, a few little tortilla chips ranch dressing, 1 apple, and yogurt with blueberries, nuts, and whip. Actually, that doesn't look so bad at all, now does it! I was feeling like maybe I had eaten a bit too much. Heck NO! See, I'm messed up... I go from eating 8 deserts in a day to eating like this and think maybe I ate too much. Boy, talk about mind games! Dang!

Hope y'all have had Thirsty Thursdays! (hey, we go for alliteration here, right?)
