Paula, I jus****ched Ben's Last Lecture. I'm so happy his colleagues have renamed their annual award with his name to honor him. That's not just accomplishment -- that's LOVE!

I so understand the enormity of your loss -- now and future. I will be here for you.

Greetings Friday Philosophers

147.5 today. I actually made an effort to get extra protein yesterday. Drank a shake! It was not especially good but I forced them down for nearly a year so I guess I can do one once in a while. After nearly 8 years of GY everyday I am suddenly sort of tired of it. Fish for dinner last night and nothing more. Shared it with the dogs.

Wow Shel, what an insightful post. I can so relate to cooking being a hobby. I used to subscribe to Gourmet Magazine though I didn't do much out of it. Cooking was my substitute for art for many years - especially when I was single and would spend Saturday night home alone cooking something elaborate. I read cookbooks for fun. It was only by happenstance that they build a very fancy new gym near my house and I was bored in the evenings and got curious about it and the olympic sized pool there. Later I got bored with swimming and went upstairs to the weight room where I met my DH.

So yeah when you are fat you always think you have something to prove. You have to work harder or be funnier or whatever. I worked hard to and resented the lack of personal time which fueled the overeating (I have had such a horrible day I must have chocolate). And I earned enough money to get fancy stuff.

Shel I am so glad you found room for "leisure" in your life and that its a healthy kind. You will always be a successful maintainer. Its so good that you have a hiking buddy with some shared life experiences. You rock maintenance and you really hit the target on the insight.

Liz, sad that you have to say goodby to the sailboats but sounds like its time. Let someone else enjoy them. Good luck with all the appointments. I have come to so hate significant driving. Today I have to drive 15 miles to the big county town for the eye doctor. I feel like I then have to hit Costco and such to stock up. Its like I am a pioneer on the prairie taking a trip to town on the buckboard! Silly.

A couple of boxes of stuff went to the thrift store yesterday but it didn't make a dent. I found some art items in the garage I had forgotten about. Thats when you know you have too much junk. Today's mission is to get DH to take cardboard over to the recycle center. (remember the theme from the old "Mission Impossible" tv show?).

Well before undertaking today's missions, must have mission coffee. Diane S

Weight 167.8 ended up eating a lot of crap yesterday

This morning I went for another Dexa scan. I thought I would do one after all my plastics so I wanted to know where I am today. I wasn't expecting much change from the first one I did 6 months ago. I knew I was 3 pounds lighter, but aside from that I had no expectations about how that 3 pound difference would manifest itself on the scan.

I was pleased to see I lost 6.1 pounds of fat and gained 3.5 pounds of lean mass. My total body fat is still too high at 34.8%, but that's down 3.1%. It'll be interesting to see how my trunk fat (still my biggest area of fat with much of it to be removed next week) and arm fat changes with surgery.

Liz, that sounds like a great plan about the boat with the possibility of him taking your DH out. Glad you're enjoying the yoga!

Shel, love your insights on leisure! That's so important to do things for ourselves and even better when thise things involve the outdoors.

Diane, I found a tent in my garage. I have no memory of buying a tent and certainly never used it. How did it get there?? Had to be me, because it's always just been my stuff, but I am flummoxed...

Off to lunch with a good friend of my mom's who has become my friend too!

The plastics countdown can now be expressed in hours which freaks me out: 89 to go

Happy Friday to all!

Hey Cecily I found a tent too that I had forgotten about. Its a pop up that I got years ago to use for craft fairs. Think I will give it away too. Diane s

I knew there was something else I wanted to add... mind like a steel trap riddled with holes.

Has anyone else watched the Netflix documentary called "The Magic Pill" about the ketogenic diet? I have to admit it was intriguing, though I understand it's controversial and some doctors have disagreed with it. I think the message of staying away from empty carbs and focusing on veggies and protein is a good one. I'm less convinced that fruits, dairy and legumes are "bad" or that so much saturated fat can be good for heart health. But it's very interesting to think about and a lot of people are finding a lot of success with it.

Would love to know your thoughts if you watched it!

140 OTD, bummer.....I like the 130's better. Not surprising though, I've been feeding my emotions some and not exercising.

Tried to clean out the gutters a bit today. Ladder slipped out under my feet and here I am hanging from the gutters (for just a few seconds) and then kerplunck I was on the ground. No serious injuries but I am sore and expect to be more sore tomorrow. I'm sure crazy bruises will appear the next few days and I feel like I have some abrasions under my clothes. Could have been much worse! Thankfully it was on the one story part of the house!

Here is a link to Ben's "Last Lecture" if any of you want to view it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdZ8w0CkHLE&feature=youtu.be &t=57s

There has been some interesting discussions on this board the last week or so. I appreciate all that everyone contributes!

Poor you!! More evidence that ladders are tools of the . So glad you didn't break anything, but still, ouch.

I watched Ben's lecture and enjoyed it! It must have been a hard one to do and to be part of as his family, but how wonderful that you have it preserved on video.

Ouch Paula, be careful. Ladders are for fire fighters. ds

Oh Paula, that was such a lovely lecture. Great ideas and great energy, too. I can see why he thinks he can do all the grading himself. Was he super tired later? (I'm asking because it is 9:15 and I can barely type this and keep my eyes open.)

Great to see you and the boys on there as well. So glad I watched, Ben sounds like an independent thinker and innovator.
