No time for a much-desired detailed read of current posts....but, Liz, quick comment about yoga. Shoes will come off, usually just before you entire the yoga room. There is typically a pile of shoes or a bench or something, maybe even cubby holes. I have yet to go to a studio that had lockers so keep in mind that your keys/wallet might be tucked in your shoes, none of it entirely secure. (The studios always lock their front door if that is the case) This bothered me a lot the first few times. Now I just minimize what I take in and don't overthink.

Otherwise, just wear clothes you can move in. Few wear shorts unless it is hot yoga and you aren't going to hot yoga. Some peeps prefer form fitting clothes, others loose clothing. You can't do it wrong.

I would say that I don't like my shirts to fall up if I bend forward, so I sort of like tops that are less likely to do that (a bit more form fitting and/or longer so that if they do fall forward there is still some fabric there)

Have fun. Yoga really is about the space above the mat.....so just you. No one will be watching you or judging you. They are in their own space.

I think I liked the yoga. I probably need it as the stretching and balance was difficult. So I am going back on Friday.

Weight 166.8 Headed in the right direction. I'm so glad I can do that at 1700 cals and not 900! Liz, you amaze me!

Yesterday was deliciously lazy... Not many lazy days this week. Then next week will be lazy, but painful with surgery. Eek.

Tonight I am heading to see Love Never Dies, which is an Andrew Lloyd Webber spin off of Phantom of the Opera. I will report back! Before then, Pilates and more gathering of stuff for Salvation Army.

Take care, all!

Yes being 5'3" and old stinks sometimes. Luckily the basics I eat for 700-900 calories keep me from being hungry amazingly. I just substitute things like light hot chocolate for a 2-300 calorie snack. I guess one of the best things since I had the VSG is that I learned to do this and to listen to my body (not my head) about hunger. So when I crave something I know it is my head (and I choose to succumb or not). BTW, I did succumb to a couple of cookies last night.

Greetings Monday Mavens

Still at 148. Dinner last night was shrimp and grilled sweet peppers. My favorite these days. I feel like I can pig out on the peppers as they are so low cal.

Its sunny but windy here. Dogs will get a walk. I wish the junk would walk out of the living room. I have some finance phone calls to make before I can escape to the studio for kiln opening.

Atlas Atlas Atlas! An orange paint stick? Couldn't you have chosen a more neutral color? I can see his picture on one of those pet shaming sites with a sign that says "I stole a tube of orange paint and painted myself and the house". But consider this dog story: People had a Roomba that they ran around the house at night. Dog pooped on the carpet. Roomba ran over it and ran it all over the house all night long! Anyway, take care of those knees Diane O.

Liz, interesting on your wls group. Glad to hear of a surgeon who treats weight with orthopedic problems. I know so many people with knee, back and hip problems that would be greatly helped by weight loss. I suspect they know it but have experienced the same weight loss failures we all know about.

Cecily, that closet is awesome. You have to post more pictures when you fill it up!

Liz and you easterners: stay warm. Sounds like the winter from hell. You too Paula.

Well I slept late until dogs came and bothered me and kicked me out of my own bed and took my spot. So I am not sharing my coffee with them. Cheers to all. Diane S

Well, I feel I must be doing something right - I didn't weigh all weekend and I'm up just a tiny bit. Not even a pound. I can certainly feel positive about that.

I consumed a protein drink today. I had no adverse reaction. I bought my old protein powder and had it with 1% milk instead of almond milk. The flavor has changed a bit and I did not like it as much, but it is a method for me to get more protein in my body. The fact that I did not get cramps and diarrhea after drinking it leaves me to believe that it must be the other protein powder or the almond milk that was giving me the cramps and squirts.

I also bought Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches yesterday while at costco. They are decent in protein, but high carb. I had one at 10am. It was pleasant. So, protein drink and sandwich is 37 grams of protein. That's better than I have done for a breakfast meal in quite sometime. Not sure how I feel about lowering the carbs right now. One step at a time.

I am beginning to become convinced that the Vyvanse had a negative effect on my mood. I had trouble staying asleep last night, but I still feel much more positive in spirit than I have in sometime. I think indulging myself this weekend with staying home rather than going up to Santa Rosa for the traveling version of The Price is Right with my fellow teachers was the right call. The massage and late dinner was much more pleasant. Losing two more dogs (one in particular) also has lifted some of my stress. By next weekend I will have reduced from 41 to 35 dogs. I may opt to reduce even farther to 30, but I will take that into consideration once summer comes. My client on Saturday suggested I take a complete 3 week break from grooming at some point. I think I may take all of August off. What do you think of that?

Ella is in season. Yes, she will be bred. Pups will come early July is my guess. Summer pups are good. Hopefully, she will have fewer pups this time (7-9) would be much easier than 11! 8 is perfect!

Shrink today. Tank gets to go to the shrink, too. I go straight from school and the shrink adores little the little ****head! (Yes, after a weekend of loving me up and making me adore him, he turned into his alter ego this morning, Mr. ****head!) I will try to take video footage of Tank in his Mr. ****head mode. It's so f'ing adorable you have to laugh, but he really is being such a ****!

I am protein ready for the week. My simple goal is to up protein and fruits and veggies this week. The result I hope will be a reduction in sugar intake.

Baby steps....

I like those Jimmy Dean Delight egg white, cheese and turkey sausage sandwiches. 17g of protein/260 calories feels decent and they heat up quickly. I buy them at Costco in a box of 12.

That's where I got them! Under a buck each! Can't be beat for value. Have to look at the carbs tonight. I could easily lose half the English muffin.

About sleep, a few bits of trivia. (I'm focusing on sleep duration.....assuming you don't have sleep apnea which is just as bad, probably worse)

Sleep duration of 5 hours or less is associated with a 2fold increase risk of hypertension (HTN)

---------------

In nurses health study (all women, I think) >70,000 participants, followed for 10 years

5 hours of sleep on average increased relative risk of heart disease by 82%

6 hours of sleep by 30%

7 hours by 6%

8 hours, no increase in heart disease (baseline)

----------------

Sleep Restriction increasing caloric intake: randomized trail, N 17 (small), compared patient's caloric intake with usual (healthy) sleep duration vs caloric intake when getting just 2/3 of their usual sleep duration; trial ran for 8 days

results: caloric intake went up close to 600 calories per day, weight gain 1.1kg. There was no change in activity levels.

Oh, crap! I never ever sleep 5 hours straight. I always wake up to go pee or just wake up and look at the clock. As far as sleep apnea, I had a sleep study prior to VSG and I was borderline. I do have it, but it's not at the requires treatment level. Post VSG it must have gone away because Ron says I never bolt up in my sleep or sound like i'm choking and I don't snore much anymore either. So at least I'm good there.

Did I tell you how high my BP was on 60 mg of Vyvanse? With my whitecoat fever it was at 190/90. Once I got in and saw my zen doc it went down to 150 over 80, but still way to high. I'm giving myself a week off Vyvanse before taking my BP again. I figure it's probably out of my system already, but a week should more than do it, don't you think?
