Weight 116, calories 909. A bit up from yesterday, but I expected that. I am just trying to get the bouncing around down into the lower part of my range.

I went to my in-person support group for the first time since the fall. The leader has just returned from hip surgery. She used to weigh in the mid-400s, but after RNY many years ago got her BMI down to the low 40s. She never dropped below that until she needed this surgery and her surgeon said he wouldn't operate on her unless she got had a BMI under 40. So she did and lost 35 pounds! She said she was thrilled to find that once she got back to basics she could feel the restriction again and use it. She needs a knee replacement too, and the surgeon says he wants another 35 pounds gone before he will do that. She is a nurse and has a lot of respect for this surgeon who feels that he is treating the whole patient and his goal is not just to get them through surgery but also to give the patient the likelihood of having a successful ultimately painless outcome.

This morning I am going to yoga with my high school friend. I don't even know what to wear (do we keep shoes on)? I will report back on how I do.

Other than that my brain is still frozen. Have a mindful Monday!

Liz, I hope you enjoy class ! Has DH's watch GPS arrived ? Hope you can get the Lexapro increased soon! I am in awe of your daily calorie intake. I don't know if I could go much under 1200 for more than a couple of days ! David sorry to hear that your mood hasn't held. Perhaps being back at the shop for an Adalyn fix will help ! I agree, energy in youth doesn't suck the energy out of you like so many things do. I always found that being around the kids amplified everything good, even when giving attitude adjustments ! Devon, kudos for reducing your client load !! Sleep and discretionary time are essentials we should protect ! Cecily, I so envy your closet... almost as much as the places you have to hike ! That lighted space is soo awesome !!! Diane, I hear you with all of those totes inside. Why is it men generalize when we think we are being specific and have a laser focus when we'd like them to generalize ? I hear you about increasing protein. Some days I have to fit in a protein bar just to get over 70 grams. BB, yes, sunshine can cure anything ! Glad Nugget is sleeping so well ! She should be a good traveler ! Shel, thanks for keeping us up to date on the latest research ! Glad your conference went well ! The carrot story made me laugh out loud ! The durability of lifestyle frame was very helpful to me. Maintenance is forever ! Ann and Paula... thinking of both of you. Eager to hear from you when you have an opportunity to check in.

Started the day with snow yesterday and it is supposed to be in the upper 70s later in the week. I'm down to pain killers and muscle relaxers at night only, to let me get to sleep. I've also graduated from crutches to a knee brace and an intermittent cane. Sadie and I won't be doing therapy work this week as I still am not stable on my feet. I have an echo cardiogram Wednesday.

So, six month old Atlas has been taking things off the dining room table when he is out of sight. This morning, I went to the basement to do laundry, which takes much longer than usual. I came upstairs to find that he had taken an ORANGE acrylic paint stick off the table, and had chewed it enough to get paint all over him and several areas of the carpet. Dogs can only misbehave when humans fail to anticipate and plan accordingly. My favorite picture on Facebook is paint on the rug next to the mat that says wipe your paws. He did, and perhaps that's why there is so little on him !

I'm glad your stability is improving. Hopefully you'll be fully back soon. No, the GPS watch has not arrived yet.

OMG on Atlas! One of my favorite pictures of eldest DD was when she was a toddler with her face all red from the magic marker she'd used on it. Sometimes you just have to laugh (as my Mom used to say)...

I loved that pic on facebook this morning! Made me chuckle. It is so MY HOUSE! And you are right, we only have ourselves to blame. The dog is simply doing what is natural - exploring is surroundings. To truly understand an object a dog must put it in his mouth. Some people just don't understand that.

I have trouble with Keira who is 9 years old taking things off the dining room table. For a time I was infuriated that she would continue to do such a thing because she clearly understood I did not approve. It wasn't until I understood that she really couldn't change her dog nature that I began to take responsibility for her behavior. When I did that, her behavior improved, too. Go figure!

Fergus "understands" rocks, concrete, bark, mulch, sticks, the stucco on my house, baseboards, chair legs... So. Much. Puppy. Chewing. As an old man, he now limits his chewing to rocks, bark, mulch, and tennis balls. And blocks of cheese if he can steal them.

Fergus: Lab or Golden?

Gotta be one or the other from your description of what he ate as a pup!

Ha! Golden... sometimes I think he has Pica.

Look at your handsome old man! Goldens have a place in my heart. I don't think I will ever own one, but I just love how handsome, statuesque, strong a well built Golden appears. I also love how wonderful their coat feels. Silky, soft... not at all like a wire haired terrier!

You know Labs and Goldens are notorious chewers as pups. Labs are worse than Goldens.

Had a friend with a Lab that ate rocks among many other things. The fourth time he was blocked by a rock the vet consulted a behaviorist prior to surgery. The behaviorist actually suggested putting the dog down telling my friend that it would happen again and again. I can't imagine! Apparently, some dogs actually do have a type of Pica! Scary....

They eat the weirdest things. I find gravel in his poop. And if he's chewing on one and you try to take it away, he immediately swallows it. Last summer one of my dad's goldens ate a stray poop bag complete with poop. It took a minute to figure out what the blue plastic was in his pile. If you're brushing them, they grab the fur piles you take off the brush and eat those. Everything goes in their mouths. How we've never had one get a blockage (knock on wood) is beyond me. I realized early on to pick my battles on what I try to get away from him (I just can't win on the mulch front) and keep everything I don't want eaten out of reach. Still one of the sweetest, best breeds ever...

What a terrible behaviorist!
