VSG Maintenance Group
Friday, April 27
Happy Friday everyone!
My weight yesterday was 137.4 and today it is 139.6. Hoping the true weight is somewhere in the middle!
Super busy day yesterday with 4 appointments and then DS#2 asked if friends could come over for dinner. I want to make life as normal as possible for those boys of mine so of course I agreed. Didn't even have time to read all of the posts yesterday let alone post myself. Perhaps I can get caught up on all of you this weekend!
Have to run off to work, but I will try to check in later!
Weight 116.6, calories 1281.
Paula, I am glad you are having some "normal" days. You have a lot on your plate.
I am off to an Alzheimer's conference with Teepa Snow today along with SIL. It should be informative. If interested here is a link to her site: http://teepasnow.com

I and my family really could have used that website when MIL initially diagnosed! I had looked around the web for good resources, and there were some (all with the same 5-10 bullet points) but nothing that looked as informative.

Good morning!
Paula, it was wonderful to see you kick things off but totally understand if you can't keep caught up with posts! Yes, the kid's social support is so important. (As is yours)
The conference is in full swing. I'm working out this morning in a gym which I a will uber to. It is the same type of gym I go to at home which gives me a guided workout. The hotel has a good gym which I'll use Sat/Sun but I am so lazy without someone bossing me around. Yesterday's activity was urban hiking (shopping)
I skipped lasts night's conference food offerings during a reception. It will be interesting to see what today's offering's bring. The organizers have improved the food over the years.
People from the East Coast, in particular, really dress up for conferences. Well, they are probably normal work clothes. Maybe I shouldn't lump all of the West Coast into one, but feel our professional look is less ready-for-church.
Gotta dash, have fun today. Shel

We definitely still dress up more on the east coast. I used to notice that when I traveled for business out there. We are relaxing though. My former stuffy company which used to be suits only until a few years ago morphed to business casual on Fridays, then everyday, and finally allows jeans now.

Nice to see you start our thread, Paula. I hope you are finding ways to delegate some of the tasks involved in steering the ship to the boys. Not only do you need help hosting events but their contributions will enable them to feel the strength of the team. Maintaining normalcy is a fabulous goal as long as it is a shared goal...not all on you. Shel...good on you for Ubering to the gym ! That is true dedication ! I loved yesterday's conversation about California road travel, both how long it takes and how natives refer to their roads. Cecily, please take lots of pictures of the closet renovation. So exciting !
Knee continues to improve and I'm only using the cane intermittently. I see a huge difference between recovering from this type of injury at a normal weight versus being morbidly obese. I'll be finishing year three post VSG at the end of May, and moving into year four. I'm eager to get my activity level ratcheted back up not only to remain in my range but because it makes me feel so much better mentally and physically.

Greetings Friday Frolickers
148 again. I need to do a little more frolicking. However, DH brought tubs and tubs of stuff from the garage into the living room for me to sort. Not what I had in mind but it will do.
Good for you Paula to have the boys over for dinner. My parents always told us we could have friends over any time we wanted. I think its because my mom never could because her dad was an alcoholic.Hope the kid energy was fun!
Shel, love the "quitting" article. I was always taught to never be a quitter - that it was so wrong. So it was not easy for me to quit my law career when I did but I sure am glad I did. Vive la quit!! And taking uber to the gym! How 21st century of you!
Yep, seems like the farther east you go the more people dress up. Shel, you saw my art studio. We have a joke there about having casual friday - as if it could get any more casual.
Liz, hope the alzheimers site gives you some help. It looked interesting.
Diane O, glad you are healing. People in our age group who are obese seem to inevitably have motion issues. Something I never thought of as a younger fat person and something I worry about for niece and nephew and their spouses who are obese or morbidly obese. They are not "weighted down" by it now but its coming.
Dinner tonight will be shrimp and sautéed sweet peppers. Glad I got a boat load of errands done yesterday as the living room box chores will be huge. Guess I'd better get on with it. But more coffee first. Diane S
Weight: 165
Tummy troubles continue. Probably just the stress of recent days. I feel like my gut is really in tune with my emotions!
Paula-"normal" sounds like a good idea. Your family is so lucky to have you at the helm.
Shel-I feel like warmer climates are, in general, more casual. I would say some of it is also generational. You mention church attire, and most of my friends now are totally comfortable going to church in ripped jeans! My grandmother is aghast! But it's not just generational--my BIL is an attorney in Florida and will rarely wear suits, and often wears board shorts, a Hawaiian shirt, and sandals to work! My practice is a lot more casual than many law firms in that if we're not going to court, business dress is okay (and most of the time that means slacks and nice top, probably a blazer). I may be in a rare camp here, but the dressier I dress, the more confident and sharp I feel!
Speaking of work and work attire, I'm actually eager to get back to work. I love my baby, but it makes for a looooong day. DH went to commiserate with the rest of those laid off yesterday and I was here with my Nugget feeling utterly left out (I know most of his employees well).
We're feeling a little more optimistic about things today. It's still a darn shame, and life is still a little uncertain. Don't fall in love with a corporation!! It's not a person no matter how much people want you to believe that lol. It was a job, and a good one at that. But it's the people who made it what it was. We'll find other opportunities. The blessing about all this is how quickly word traveled in our network and getting to see how well-respected and well-liked my husband is. He's actually had some people encouraging him to start his own business and that they would like to work for him! Doubt that he'll do that as he's somewhat risk-averse, but very flattering all the same :)
It's a beautiful bright day outside (here) and we're alive. Let's make the best of it!
