I'll start today's thread, since I'm up early to pack and get on the road. My participation here may be pretty spotty while I'm away from home.

My veggies and fruits were many of the familiar ones yesterday and felt so good to my body. Nourishing, nutritious foods are powerful medicines.

There's nothing much new to say after last night's post. I'm a bit tired and have those pre-trip jitters, due to packing anxiety. Does anyone else get that?

I think that's it.

Today's theme: Love ourselves. Be kind to ourselves. Make good choices.

Good morning!

Ann, safe travels. I'm excited for you to get together with your people, it sounds like it will be a wonderful trip.

Liz, sorry to hear about DH taking off yesterday. Do you already know of a gps watch that can be used like that? I used to have a car tracker on my daughter's car which worked pretty well but it ran off the car's battery. My Garmin watch will can track but it uses a fair amount of battery in doing so. But, if I keep other features (like back lighting) turned down it easily gets me thru a day's activities. But, only I have access to that data. I think there are things available at REI that might share data for a fee. I might pay for that sort of thing this summer as a safety feature when hiking. One of the women I hike with wears a transponder that will call a helicopter to come get her if she activates it. She is a helicopter nurse so maybe that is normal in her world.

About sleep: I have been averaging significantly more sleep. After a very long day at work, I didn't feel tired. I didn't feel compelled in my usual zombie way to seek evening snacks last night. Also, I think in-between meal snacking is down. I know reducing caffeine is helpful to improve sleep but I still miss that caffeine zing.

Peps, again, nice to have you back! Love that Tank! There must be a back story to Tank, can't wait to hear it.

Good morning! I've been up since 7 - everyone is still sleeping so I am in the lobby drinking coffee and on the iPad. Lots of crazy guests are already on the way over to the park for the 8 am opening. We are too old for that nonsense.

Ann, I hope you did (or will) get some more sleep. I absolutely get the traveling jitters and it disturbs my sleep. Last night I know I was sleeping from 2-6 heavily, but not much before or after... I will be glad when we leave today. The weather was very nice yesterday with a breeze all day and it was actually cool until around 1, but then not too hot after that. I think today will be hotter.

Yes, there are GPS watches for tracking kids and adults with dementia - they are the only ones that attach to the person - all the rest have to be pinned on clothing or put in pockets. I wish there was a Fitbit size that he could keep on all the time, because he takes off clothing (if GPS were in pocket or pinned), he leaves his phone behind, and he loses watches all the time. It is just going to become another responsibility for me to keep track of like doing his meds, I suppose. I had to hold DH's hand all day yesterday and almost pull him through crowds. He slows his walk to a shuffle when people are coming toward him. I guess it is his inability to properly perceive what is around him.

Have a fun Friday (if you can)!

SO DONE with winter! More snow squalls today and tomorrow accompanied by winds, making it feel like teens and low twenties. Because an optimist sees the positive in a challenge and a pessimist sees a challenge in the positive, I choose to look forward to next Wednesday's flying forecast, which involves no storms ! Preparing to travel is typically okay for me, because I begin to pack a week in advance with lots of piles and lists. I add, take away, buy last minute items, and by the night before, all that's left to put the piles I'm now fairly confident about in the luggage.

Picking up more debris from wind damage and meeting with contractor about roof repair today. We'll have one more meeting with the dog sitter(s) over the weekend and give them the keys and the code to the garage door, in case they misplace the keys and can't get to the dogs.

Go find the positive in any challenge !

Have a fabulous trip, Ann! I get major pre-trip jitters. No matter how great I know the trip will be, I always feel really uncomfortable and anxious at the thought of going away. And then I love it.

Greetings Peeps and Peps (like the sound of that so I am saying it again)

147. Phooey. I was at the doctor yesterday for the platelets (which are fine) and he pointed out that while my weight was still ok, its been creeping up. Curses, back to having doctors comment on my weight. Seven years ago this guy thought I was too thin! I got the exercise lecture in a mild form.

Hey Ann, have a good trip! I am imagining you in NO with one of those wonderful jazz bands that due little parades at memorials. Hope you have a great time with friends and some good reminiscing.

Diane O so glad you get a winter escape. The sun always does us good even if we are not sun worshipers. Heavy rains are predicted here for the weekend so its time to make hot soup.

Cecily, those wild flowers are awesome. Ditto roadrunner. Beep beep!

Liz, how frightening to have DH take off. There must be some sort of gps that will help but getting him to wear it is the key. I know so many older people who have those life lines but refuse to wear them.

Sleep - seems like its an issue for all of us at some point and some more than others. I have to stay with my bedtime routine whi*****ludes watching some mindless tv with headphones. One time we stayed up extra late watching some show and DH suggested that I didn't need my late night tv because of it. He doesn't get it. He is always asleep in 30 seconds.

Some interesting news. Looks like my mom's friend Pat left me and brothers as beneficiaries on an IRA. More combat pay.

Yesterday someone came to the art gallery and bought over $2000 worth of stuff and paid in cash! So I have to go up there today and retrieve it for deposit so its not sitting around. Then its off to the studio and various adventures. But more coffee first. Diane S

So, the only thing I'm trying to do weight wise/food wise is to wean myself off of sugar, fat, flour combo foods. I think it's called Junk Food, if I remember correctly! Hehehehe

Weight was consequently down about 2 pounds today.

The food addiction info I have read has stated that it is unwise to focus on "recovering" from addictive food substances and weight loss simultaneously. Authority Nutrition founder Kris Gunnars is a self proclaimed food addict. he has several years of recovery and believes firmly that like drugs and alcohol, a food addict must swear off addictive foods for one's lifetime. I don't like that stand, but I can certainly see how it could be of benefit to me. I am going to have to consider that concept of complete abstinence carefully. It's a scary idea for me, but I am beginning to see how useful it could be for me. This is teh place I have not wanted to go, but it may be the best choice for me in the long run. Certainly, such a choice would be beneficial in the short term. For now, I must focus on the achievements of each day - even if that means waiting until after dark to eat sugar. That is a plus for me.

Yesterday was the closest I have come in quite some time to understanding how my busy life affects me. I came very close to wanting to make a list of clients that need to be let go. I may do that and keep it on hand.

Someone may have asked for a back story about Tank. Not sure if it was here. If it was, let me know. I will spill it. Really quick version: His dad is essentially the top Cairn in the dog show world in the USA and Europe and Asia (yeah, the whole world). He won the breed at Westminster and Crufts this year and made the cut in the Group at Crufts (HUGE accomplishment). His breeder offered him to me. How could I turn such a pup down, right?

Busy weekend ahead. Too busy. I want to call in sick to my weekend! LOL!

Peps (hehehehe - I so don't use that name except with people who have known me since I was little! I have to admit it was weird at first seeing you all use it. It wasn't until today when Diane S. started her post with Peeps and Peps, that I liked how seeing my nickname here made me feel! Today it made me smile. Thanks, Diane!)

I think it was likely me who asked for more info about Tank. If I didn't type it, I was thinking it.

Weight 135. Back down to my pre-plastics weight. This is despite not great eating this week.

Being in plastics recovery I've been at the mercy of my husband who keeps being "too busy" or forgetting to buy groceries. Lots of takeout this past week. Eating was much healthier week 1 while my mom was here and would go out for fresh fruit veggies and meat (and helped with cooking).

I am doing groceries tomorrow!!!! I need real food!

Have a great weekend everyone

Hope you are doing well. Yeah, most husbands don't make very good nurses (except for Dave who is indeed a nurse and very good one). Yep, go for the groceries yourself! I can't even depend on my DH to select the correct coffee for me. Get well! Diane S
