VSG Maintenance Group
Saturday, March 17, 2018 - St. Patrick's Day
Weight 116.8, calories about 2000. Half of those calories were not my usual foods. They included Ahi Tuna for lunch and grouper for dinner, but also included wine and coconut cream pie. Yes, I ate the whole piece of pie and my innards were not super happy afterwards. Definitely too much sugar. Half will work next time.
It was a strange birthday. DH didn't remember of course and didn't want to go to the beach. So SIL and I went to Boca Grande, an island about 45 minutes from here. We went to a gorgeous beach and ate lunch at a great restaurant right on the sand. Just before we got back, DH talked to his friends and went out with them for dinner. So I went to the planned restaurant alone, ate at the outside bar and watched the sunset. I took my pie to go. DH went to bed right after I got home.
Today I am making an Irish boiled dinner and irish bread. DH says he wants to make it but of course that won't happen.
Have a satisfying Saturday.

Liz, way to roll with the flow on your birthday ! Good for you for easing into the new normal with grace ! Bittersweet I'm sure . Dave, loved the baby tricks video ! Cecily and Paula, loved the puppy pictures... Ben looks good too ! Diane and Shel are on their adventures, Ann and I are preparing and BB is on a lifelong adventure with Becca ! Devon, bet you're glad to have report cards behind you !
Down a pound with the monitor off. On MFP, I came across the "Forks Over Knives" plan, clean whole foods and plants over meat. As I work to increase fruits and vegetables, I want to explore increasing non meat protein options. I'm trying a new corned beef recipe later, a boil then bake approach, with double carrots & cabbage.
Top of the day to my gold seekers !

Good morning!
I'm packed. Don't know about the teenagers. The Plan is 6am workout, shower, and then we hit the road about 7:30. It probably won't go that way but I'm ok with that.
As I prepared my driving veggie's, I was struck by how I am not missing the old pre-VSG travel food favorites. I'm sure I will mourn later, but for now that part of my brain is good.
And I need some good. Yesterday was a ****storm. Ok, if that spirit-thing is MIL or some advanced spirit, she is welcome to step in and help, already. TEACH ME, OH WISE ONE! I AM READY!
(do all caps help us reach the spirit world or are spirits just as irritated by all caps as everyone else?)
DD and DH got into a verbal fight yesterday, witnessed by neighbor kids and our next door neighbor Jim. (Jim is the husband of the neighbor I hike with.)
DH, more than most, is eaten up by public humiliation and he would consider yesterday humiliation of the worst sort. He has no mechanism to deal with that. You know, morbid obesity helps people learn how to cope with public embarrassment. Sometimes with brownies.
I'm leaving a lot of the story out, just because. But I ended up leaving work early to put my eyes on DH to check on his mental state including "are you thinking about hurting yourself?" (No, no he is not) He said his fuse is really short right now.
DD is angry with his angry behavior (and she is right to be angry) but she is relentless in all her 17 year old glory,
In the end, we are going on the trip, at DH's urging. I think (pray) this is the right thing. DH perhaps could benefit from some quiet. I contacted his best friend forever who will keep him from being isolated. Neighbors will also try to keep an eye on him but DH won't want to talk to them because of public humiliation and he doesn't want advise from them. (That is a shame, they care for all of us and have lots of experience with teenagers).
In other news, I think I had a contact remnant in my eye all day yesterday. I think I was able to flu**** out with water this morning. I'm crossing my fingers/toes for luck. Please join me. I need more than the luck of the Irish.
So, we shall see what sunrise brings. But workout comes first.
Hug your peeps and pups, every single one. But, especially those sweet, sweet babies.
Shel

Oh my goodness, was it a full moon yesterday? I ended up taking DS #1 into the ER last night for a mental health crisis but he didn't meet admissions criteria for an inpatient stay so we will have to hopefully get him to follow-up his psychiatrist and/or a PCP and counseling. The follow through is always a struggle with him.
Sorry your DH and DD had their struggles yesterday. I know I would be embarrassed if some of the interactions I have with DS#1 were on public display. Hope DH finds his solo time refreshing
Have a absolutely wonderful trip. Hug Diane S for us and share lots of pics!
Hope DS1 is doing better. Follow up is a bear for everyone. I am hoping the storm at home has passed. But DH was too busy to get together with BFF. Hopefully this is nothing more than needing his own space.

Diane), you must be so glad to ditch your cardio breastplate. I so support your quest for more plant foods. Meats are good. Meats and lots of V/Fs are even better!
Liz, I'm so sorry your husband forgot your birthday and dinner plans. But good on you for going to dinner by yourself. I wonder how that felt? BTW, that teeshirt he gave you last year is really cute.
Shel, I'm thinking of you this morning as you, DD and DDs friend are about to hit the road. What a drama-llama Friday afternoon y'all had. I can visualize so clearly short-fused hubby and self-righteous DD both trying not to give up an inch at the goal line.
Yesterday, after only 3 hours of sleep and my grieving collapse on Thursday night, I got back up on the horse. I swear -- climbing back upon the horse is one of the best exercises I have learned since WLS! It's still a little surprising to me that I can do that. Yesterday I also took it easy on my tired, sore body. I didn't go to aquarobics class, but rested and fed my body nutritious food. That's another change I've made post-WLS -- I don't starve myself the day after over-eating. That old yo-yo mode no longer seems like the smart move.
Yesterday's V/Fs were cherry tomatoes, raw carrots, spring lettuces, black beans, bamboo shoots, celery, kale/spinach, and blueberries.
This morning it's shockingly gorgeous here. The sunrise was spectacular. Trees are finally budding, and the grass is starting to look like Ireland. This morning I'm going into town to walk, pick up the mail, and make a Walmart run.
Today's theme is a quote from Les Miserables by Victor Hugo: "If people did not love one another, I really don't see what use there would be in having any spring."

Liz, so sorry DH forgot your birthday and didn't want to join in on the festivities. You handled it beautifully though. Good for you. I fear I would have been a sulking mess! Love the Shamrock shirt!
142.2 today. Calories were under 1,000 until I needed to stay up until 2 am with DS#1 and hunger set in so I had a protein bar on the way to the ER. Still need to add that to MFP to figure out my total for the day.
Today is suppose to be sunny and warm for WI, around 49 degrees for a high. I think I will pick up sticks on our 3 1/2 acres. Most of the snow is gone - hallelujah!
