Good morning ! Fifteen inches of heavy snow ! It's amazing that such moisture laden snow DOES blow in 45 MPH winds! It took us the better part of the day to get/keep our driveway, doors, and minimal dog paths open. Atlas looks so big , but had tremendous difficulty getting out into the yard to do his thing. Once the driveway was clear, DH snow blew a minimal loop in the back yard for Sadie and Atlas. I had chili cooking in the crock pot, and by the time we lost power for a couple of hours mid afternoon, I could keep it warm in a cast iron pan on the pellet stove.
Devon, our basic cooking method made me appreciate the photo you posted, when I caught up on yesterday's posts. Did your students come up with the authentic clothing or did the school house provide them? Loved it ! Shel, so sorry about MIL. Even when it is expected, death can be a significant shock to your entire system. Dave, positive thoughts for DW's speedy recovery. Your excellent nursing and those sweet grand babies will help! Liz, the puppy looks sweet, as does Paul ! Glad BIL is gone, along with the negative energy he brought with him.
Hopefully, snow shoeing today, along with digging out the mailbox !

I'm about to jump in the shower, finish packing, load the car, and drive for seven hours. I like all of that but the seven hours of driving.
Y'all have a good weekend, whatever you're doing and whatever your weather.
And care for yourselves. If you don't, who will?
Today's theme: Make good choices. :)

Weight 116.4, calories 699. Sleep - about 5.5 maybe. I had 2 short nights on Wednesday and Thursday of only about 6.5 hours, so I went to bed early last night. I work up around 2, and was mostly awake from then on. I got up for a while to read around 3. I did doze from perhaps 5:30-6, then woke up abruptly.
Justice is doing well so far. He follows me around the most and DH a little. He was just softening up to SIL at the end of last night. He seems to be really smart and understood that the crate in the spare room is his main bed and that the towels on the lanai are for him to lie on when our with him. No potty accidents - they told us when we picked him up that he was great at holding it. So far he feels pretty good without too much discomfort from the two intramuscular injections. It is at somewhere around the 5 day point when the worms are dead and clogging up his bloodstream when he may not feel so great. He is a pretty sedate guy other than when out walking so we don't have to do much to keep him quiet as is required. He is also vocally quiet. I have yet to hear a peep out of him other than perhaps a bit of a squeak (and never did when we walked him at the shelter). He has already had his meds this morning, a little food and is curled up next to me on the couch right now.
Thats all the news for today. Have a satisfying Saturday!

Terrific tidings to you all!
DianeO, I almost typed I was jealous that you can snowshoe from your doorstep but that is too ridiculous, even from me. (Or, as Paula would sum up: YUK!) Today, I will drive a sane 1.5 hours to nice snow in the mountains, where snow belongs.
I got my 23andme results. I was hoping for an ancestry surprise, honestly. Instead, 100% European. DD is very disappointed in my lack of special. We live in a diverse community and she has long wished to be something different than what we are. My grandfather was an immigrant but many of her friends are the 1st generation to born here or brought here as young children
But, can we trust these results? From the wellness category: likely to be normal weight and have dark hair.
My favorite observation (tho it hurts my feelings) "muscle composition uncommon in elite athletes".
About the likely to be normal weight.....I was the only fat person in my immediate family that was overweight as a child. I was hospitalized for an infection when a few weeks old and walloped with antibiotics. I'm voting for gut bacteria bad actors. (Amazing how the brain insists on finding A Reason for why I am what I am.)
Devon, that looked like a fabulous day of old-time school. David, hope DW continues to improve and enjoy those babes!
Gotta get ready for the snowshoe. DNeighbor is driving and her crazy even-fitter BF is coming, too. I have to be ready on time cuz for the rest of the day I'll be behind.
Shel

My DH had his DNA done too. His maternal great grandmother is reported to have been full Native American, and from pictures of his grandfather and what his mom and her siblings look like, it appears to be true - back when his great grandparents married, in the 1800's, unfortunately, it was not something to be cherished, so it was downplayed. Anyway, DH's DNA came back with 0% Native American. The rest, except for a small % of Nigerian, was expected. It's all very interesting and makes me wonder if there is some margin or error. I know two siblings with the same parents have different DNA, but I'm not sure a bloodline, of which one is thought to be 1/8 of, wouldn't show up. Hmm... Anyway, have a ball snowshoeing Shel!
While they said I was "100% European" there was a dot of 0.01% Native American/Asian in there. But, not enough to differentiate asian from Native American who are genetically quite similar, or so I am told.
Very interesting, all of it!
They could also trace back where relatives were from in terms of years. For example, most recently French German, then further back, England, then Scandinavian etc etc etc. Eventually, way back, we were Italian. (I imagine my most recent German relatives recoiling at that bit of news. They also won't be thrilled with being lumped in with the French.)
I think "genetics" might be different than what race people self-assigned themselves (or others) to. I don't know how that would play in someone that is "full Native American" but it isn't hard to imagine people conspiring (making up? presuming?) all sorts of things about themselves/others that might not stand up to genetic scrutiny. Genetics really didn't matter if that is the cultural life they lived. (I believe that Elizabeth Warren would agree with that!)

Mine came back with 1.3% sub-Saharan African. I had my Dad do it, his number was 1.7%. Given the low racial tolerance levels of older/passed members of that side of the family, my Dad and I thought it was hilarious. I mentioned it to my cousin (Dad's sister's son). His laughing response was, oh please let me be there when you tell my mom!
Sub-sahara African. You might be related to ****e Kinte! I'll teach you Mandinkan (or what I remember of it so that will take about 30 seconds)
