Last night I slept 7.5 hours and definitely feel the better for it.

My eating was back on track, too, with 8 V/Fs, including tomatoes, spring lettuces, raw carrots, half an avocado, celery, kale, black beans, more carrots and blueberries.

Yesterday morning I agreed to accept a recent invitation to join a small philanthropic woman's organization in our little town. That sounds so matronly club-woman to me and not well aligned with my inner Debbie Harry. But I need a lot more regular social interaction, and this will push me in that direction.

I also scored a luncheon date for me and my 18-year-old college-freshman niece with a member of her university's Board of Directors. Hey, a girl needs connections! In the afternoon the niece came over after classes to share pix of her recent trip to St. Louis to attend a concert with BFFs, do some yoga (she brings her own mat), and eat an avocado bagel, which is what all the cool kids are eating these days. She's a window on a world I'd otherwise not know about. Oh, the optimism! :)

Today I'll be busy with aquarobics, appointments, phone calls, tidying the house, and feeding the deer who are no longer pissed at me. Then dinner with my sister who's spending the night. Tomorrow morning, she and I will drive to Mississippi to visit our three other sisters who are driving in from other states. I'll get home late Monday and probably be MIA until then.

Today's theme: T.G.I.F.

It sounds like you are busy these days Ann. Good for you! I'm not sure I would have your energy.

We went out to dinner with DH and SIL's cousins last night to a "Tiki Bar" on the water. The cousins have gone there for years and really liked it, but it recently expanded and they did NOT have their act together. Luckily the shrimp that SIL and I split were pretty good, but no one else was happy with the service or food. But it was fun and they came back to our place to check it out. Certainly not as shiny and new as theirs but definitely more homey. Their places remind me of a hotel.

We pick up Justice at 3 today. The vet approved the foster. She was kind of a character but wanted to make sure I understood the importance of keeping him quiet. Of course I had already read everything I could find about it online so I was pretty prepared. We ended up just discussing the specifics of what to feed him, the crate, etc. She was thrilled that I told her about a product to make it easier to work with chihuahuas and cats. Our vet at home uses an Air Muzzle which is much less stressful for small dogs than a traditional muzzle. I may buy one and donate it.

Have a fantastic Friday!

Liz, re my energy level -- yes, that's actually an ongoing challenge for me. It really does wax and wane. Some afternoons I just pass out.

Yesterday, not so much -- because when an 18-year-old calls and asks, "Can I come over?" it's pretty hard not to rise to her energy level. That extra energy expenditure might also have contributed to my sleeping better last night.

BTW, your foster doggie is sounding better all the time.

Hello all,

Thank you for your words of kindness regarding DMIL. This is the first death of anyone close to me besides grandparents and I was unprepared for its effect on my brain. I thought that since it was not unexpected, and even welcomed by all (including MIL,) that I would share tears and stories but otherwise function normally. Now I know I was wrong. I was slightly out of phase yesterday, knocked slightly off my axis.

I'm off work today. Doing nothing exciting except I slept an extra couple of hours (lookout!) and will make sure I spend time with FIL. Hope to make a Korean taco thing, inspired by Paula.

Sounds like fun with the niece, Ann. About hanging with teenagers.....I feel like a vampire as I take in their vibe. I thought the best part of the Olympics was watching those snowboarders (human equivalents of puppies) interact with each other.

I am looking forward to the trip to NoCA, in part, because I will be with 2 teenagers. Definitely the most scary part of the trip is because I will be with 2 teenagers. I am out numbered, but my pocketbook rules all. DD's friend turns 18 on the trip, have I mentioned this? She wants a septum ring in SF. It is ok with her mom tho I was the one who told her mom about it. Kids.

Find your full today....something besides food. You all are so good at that. I love seeing all that is going on. Some day soon there will be a Nugget going on.

Oh, Dave - so surprising to see cabinet humor on facebook. I had no idea! And DianeO, hope you can enjoy the warmth and comfort of your new home even as the weather rages.

Sorry for the loss feelings with the passing of your MIL. Working in the ICU I could handle death o****il I saw the family member dealing with loss. It has effects on care givers as well.

I did not see cabinet humor. I have not post much lately that I can remember.

Hi Dave, I hope your DW has a swift recovery.

I am probably using the wrong vocabulary. I'm talking about the people that post pictures of their cabinets outside. One of them referred to the cabinet as pregnant since the piece had its drawers open in a manner that mimicked pregnancy. It is entirely possible that the wood pieces weren't strictly cabinets nor were the posts exactly humor!

That guy is someone I follow on youtube. He makes period furniture and then photographs them in the woods he harvested the lumber.

It is definitely hard to lose someone like MIL even when you think you are prepared. You need to work through the grief of losing her.

Greetings Friday Frolickers

Well not much frolicking going on around here. 146.5 after a rainy sluggy day yesterday. More rain predicted but we have to get the dogs in for flu shots and then I have gallery duty.

Ann, the club thing could be good. I bet there are other Debbie Harry's in there. And glad you had fun with the niece. What a complement to you that the teenager likes to hang out with you. Have a good sister trip.

Shel the loss of someone special is always such a mixed bag of emotions. Not much wisdom here except to allow yourself to experience the feelings rather than surpressing. The nor cal trip should be an upper even if a nose ring is involved.

Devon I love those old school pictures. Inkwells - the horror! Did they have little slates and chalk?

Well now I must look at facebook for Dave's cabinets.

Momsy, glad you are back and I bet the work booboo fades into insignificance.

Liz, hug that little Justice. My niece the veterinarian says those thunder shirts are indeed calming for some dogs. But either they work really well or not at all.

Well gotta get the dogs loaded up. More later maybe. Diane S

DW had minor surgery a few days ago. Stopped at the house and broke the trip into 2 pieces so it wouldn't be so long in the car on the way home. She is healing fine. Then went back for a follow up appointment yesterday and decided on the return home that the 5 hour round trip was too much and stayed again this time with no meds or extra clothes. We will pack a bag next time.

We have had some rain and then some more. I have a 5 gallon bucket that was empty that is about 16" full. Beautiful day today with sunshine.

I have been working on the last room in the shop. It will double as the storm room. 2 layers of plywood with metal in the middle. Tornado weather has been hitting us in February and March for the past few years. Need to pick up a generator too. But I guess in AR you can expect storms all year.

More later, David
