Hello all,

Devon, I am so sorry. One is hard enough, but two! I am glad that Keira is oblivious.

My MIL passed away yesterday. She had been on hospice for about 10 days. Yesterday, DH got a text that it might be the The Day, we assembled, and within an hour or two she was gone.

The rest of the family departed right away but I hung out with DMIL until the funeral home arrived which took much, much longer than even the funeral home estimated. I could imagine MIL saying "well, what else do I have to do?" with a shrug, In those hours, I was able to get her things packed and organized while we waited. I got comfortable enough to move her bed (!) so I could get to a cabinet with lots of curated knickknacks from around the world. As I packed them, I found one that was decidedly naughty. We discussed.

This was a good death, all around. MIL's family said, to a person, "this is a blessing." I am so glad that I didn't go up to snowshoe.

I thought I would be ok for work today but now wish I would have canceled. I am not all weepy but I am........something......that I can't put my finger on at 4:30 in the morning. I will keep my 5am work out (I think that will feel good) and then re-evaluate my work schedule after I am at work. Maybe just work the morning hours but then cancel out thru the weekend.

So, that is that. Shel

After my DD passed, a friend who has worked for hospice as a nurse said it was a "beautiful death". And strangely, it was for DD as well as for my mother and MIL since then. They were ready and went quite peacefully.

I'm so glad your MIL's passing was peaceful and she was surrounded by those who love her. The older I get, the more I realize that passing isn't always a bad thing. It's those of us left who feel the loss. Sending prayers to you and your family.

I am glad MIL's passing was a good one. That must have been nice for everyone. It is not always so.

I understand the feeling you describe. It's almost like being in a state of unfeeling emptiness, yet agitated, disquieted, and unsettled. It is an odd sensation.
