Weight 116.8 (down 1.2), calories 1097. I'm still feeling a bit constipated so I may have to buy the wonderful/dreaded almonds. I like them and they work great to clear me out, but the eating of them can slip out of control. But not always - the dynamics of head-hunger are strange.

Writing the date reminded me of my mother as she would have turned 94 today. I do miss her (she died in 2010). And I was awake for a couple of hours in the middle of the night thinking about my eldest DD. For some reason it was as if I had just lost her. Maybe because the Anniversary of her last surgery is coming in early February (she died in late March 2005)? Everything went downhill pretty quickly after that.

Busy day today for a retired person: The walking group goes for coffee, we have a friend coming for lunch by the pool, the guys are going to the movies, then I'm guessing dinner out?

DH was in a better mood yesterday and we did some cleaning while he was out (so he wouldn't be tempted to help). Oops - need to add the finishing of that cleaning to the agenda since the weather will still be somewhat cool today!

Have a winsome Wednesday!

Happy last day of January ! Wasn't the moon magnificent !?

At our therapy dog visit this morning, the chapter president apologized and said that handler would no longer be working with the chapter. He said the man had been declining, but nobody addressed it until a "new person saw it for what it was and drew a line". Moral of the story, have confidence in calling a spade a spade, and doing the right thing.

Leaving in a bit for my first volunteer driving "field trip". I'll be taking a van of Vets to see "Hostiles", then out to lunch. A staff counselor will be in charge. I'm in the mood for a great Western !

Rushing out, but BB... The picture of you and Nugget is adorable !!

So glad that person and his dogs won't be in the group anymore, Liz. Hope the field trip went well!

Weight: 188.2 I think

Reading about all the sugar detoxes is interesting. I'm now reaching a point in pregnancy where I guess my already-small stomach is getting squished even more. The things that feel best on my stomach are exactly the types of food we shouldn't be eating--the slider foods like crackers and cookies, etc. Dense protein gives me an immediate gag reflex. For me, my issue with sugar is less the sugar and more my why. If I get a hankering for something sweet as an add-on, I can usually be okay, especially if I've eaten healthily the rest of the day. On the other hand, if I get hungry or just bored and decide to eat something sweet, that's when all hell breaks loose. Sweets never satisfy hunger for me, and unfortunately when I'm just plain bored food isn't the answer no matter what it is.

I've read so much about people having a "word of the year" but I've never done this before. I think if I did, my word would be PRESENCE. I'm a planner. To a fault. I plan things that don't need to be/shouldn't be planned. The planning portion of it makes me happy and calm. One unintended consequence of this is sometimes I find it hard to be in the moment and just appreciate things for what they are. There are even times when plans go out the window and turn out much better than anything I could've planned, but my immediate reaction is to be anxious/upset because it didn't go "according to plans." I do still believe there are major advantages to having plans--it helps me to identify and accomplish the things I want to do (like having dinner with a friend typically doesn't happen so easily organically and last minute with busy lives). I also think it saves money especially when it comes to meal planning. And with a baby, I'm sure life will be so much more complicated. But sometimes I let my inability to adapt and be flexible become crippling. For years, it was this way when I was on Weigh****chers. I could only lose weight if I had 100% control of my surroundings. Get invited out for dinner and that was it unless I'd planned for it. I don't know why it was that way, but it was. I guess I feel like I anticipate my financial budget better than my calorie budget. Hmmmm

Bonnie, some of us do things to a fault as you said. I guess moderation may be a good word. I know I can sometimes be too much of a perfectionist in some areas. I need to have some moderation and find that place where the work is good enough. That is hard, but it sounds like you're getting there.

Yesterday I woke up tired and got tireder as the day went along. I went to yoga class, then rushed home to spend time with my sister, forgetting that I had a 6-month dental cleaning appointment at ten o'clock. In the early afternoon I saw my doctor, because two nights ago I fell into a wall and split open my lower lip. Fortunately, it didn't require stitches, and FTR no alcohol was involved - I was just clumsy. Then I met my sister at the nail salon for pedicures.

And then I went to the post office and found my husband's ashes in the mail.

By the time I got home I was tireder than I've ever felt in my life.

This morning I didn't go to aquarobics class. It's time to take a day off.

Today's Theme: Be still.

Ann, today must have been tough. Being still and resting sounds like just what you need. Hope the rest is soothing for you.

Greetings Wonderful Wednesday Ones

144.5 today. I got a lot of steps in yesterday with walking Tesla and a lot of errands. DH eye surgery went fine and he is doing well. He is walking dogs and such. He wears a hoodie and heavy dark glasses. Looks like the unibomber. Follow up today with the eye surgeon. Meanwhile, its pre-clean for the cleaning lady and I have to get started organizing for income taxes.

Liz of course you miss your DD. Seems like when we wake up in the night all kinds of thoughts come rushing in. But its a good thing.

Diane O, glad the dog issue is resolved. As the saying goes, "see something, say something". Sounds like a fun outing with the vets.

BB you and I are alike with all the planning. I consider it "thinking ahead to avoid disaster". But sometimes I miss the moment. We could both make a point to enjoy the moment (hard for a lawyer brain to do). Its a fine line because enjoying the moment does NOT mean jumping into a hot fudge sundae. Go****s been 20 years since I have had one of those. I don't miss it. One thing about living in a cool climate is that I do not crave ice cream.

Hey Ann, no wonder you are tired. You have probably been running on adrenaline and are now running on empty. You are right, be still and gather energy from surroundings. Gosh, a fall and split lip!! Hope you heal quickly. We seniors have to be so careful about falls. I swear a dog toy is going to do me in.

Cecily, hope you had a good hike. Your post made me want to go buy peanut butter pretzels. But I have not done so. The urge passed as do most.

I am enjoying my new facebook support group for Dupuytren's disease. But I have a lot to learn about facebook. This group is much more fun.

Well, off to shop for dog food and such. But first more coffee. I got some Pete's Big Bang blend and its quite good. Diane S

Thanks for the unibomber chuckle. I used to pre-clean when I had a cleaning lady too (clutter removal). Some people though that was weird (which to me meant they either didn't have clutter or didn't care where it was put away to). Some day I'll have one again but right now I figure it is good exercise.
