Why on a statue of a mermaid is the hair placed strategically as was Brooke Shields' hair in Blue Lagoon? It's a statue! I don't know why, but that caught my eye and actually drew my attention the breasts of the mermaid. Or, was that the caster's intent? Hmmmm...... I do like the statue. It's fun!

Appalachia - sounds like fun. July would be best for me. BUT honestly, there must be more appealing things than hiking in mid summer heat and humidity through the bug infested hills of Appalachia! LOL! As long as you all don't mind sweaty Devon, I'm good. Oh, must be clear... my idea of camping is having to bring my own blow dryer to a hotel.

I am here, Paula! Busy weekend with a dog show at the Cow Palace yesterday. Was a last minute thing. A friend needed someone to show his Irish Terrier. I had spent 3+ hours trimming her on Thursday night, so I was damned if my trim was all for naught, so I pulled up the big boy pants and showed her myself. We did well. Got best opposite to best of breed. The Best of Breed dog was very nice and handled by one of the best handlers in the USA, so I felt pretty okay about my placement.

Dog flu outbreak in this area. Can't decide if I want to immunize my pooches. Vaccine doesn't seem to be doing what it is supposed to. So..... Hmmmm.....

Interesting conversation about maintenance life and food. I have seen some of my own behavior in others on this board. I can't really say what is right or what is wrong food wise. I am not the one to ask, but I do believe it must be individual in maintenance. Part of the issue for me is that WL works with rules that can be seen as steadfast during WL, but when flexibility is added it all goes to hell.

There is so much to think and ponder when it comes to maintenance eating. What I can offer is that it does seem in my experience that all of us here have carb and sugar sensitivity.

People who also have "normal" or positive or healthy relationships with food, don't throw food away to avoid eating it. They simply leave it. How can that be, right? Me, I must eat the cookies if they are here. If I want them to be gone, I eat them more quickly or I get them wet (if I'm being SUPER strong) and throw them out. Let's be honest, right? I usually eat them. Ron, on the other hand, forgets they are in the cupboard. Or should they be on the counter he'll say, no I'll have one after dinner then forget the cookies are even there. Three days later when he thinks one would be nice he is shocked that the 8 cookies we bought 4 days ago are gone. I'm like, Really? How long have you lived with me? Big difference in how we approach those little things called cookies.

Broke down and finally bought a new mattress. Oh MY! They are expensive. Naturally, I fell in love with one of the more expensive mattresses. The very charming and young and handsome salesman I think might have taken a liking to the middle aged gay couple and decided to help us out. He found the mattress I wanted that had a packaging flaw and had to be re santized before sale. He was able to knock off a good chunk of the price (about $1500) and give me a no sales tax deal, and then instead of spending my own money in one chunk, I decided to take them up on their offer of 0% financing for 24 months. Easy Peasy! I spent a third more than I had wanted, but what the heck, right? I'm tired of waking up with numb fingers from my old mattress. It's really not a nice thing.

Oh, very cool thing... I was approached by someone I didn't know reads my blog. She told me how much the blog means to her. She has gone through so much of what I have and identified strongly with the last post because she's been there, done that - just like all of us - but without WLS. She asked if we could talk about obesity one on one. Made me feel good.

Hope your Mondays are Merry!

Wow, you already have a new-to-you fan! (Of course you have plenty of us oldie fans!) Congratulations, I am so glad you are getting recognition you deserve.

Overweight and obesity demographics suggest that more people are becoming like us. We are leaders of the movement!

I am not normal about food. I have to fake it to maintain it. JFDI. These other people that are getting bigger? I don't know what is going on with all of that. Are they fundamentally different than us? Looks like something shifted culturally. Probably multifactorial but I wish obesity science could catch up.

A lot of the patients I see don't see themselves as overweight, much less obese. My mom never let me forget. I tell you, moms have fallen off the job!

Maybe food was never meant to be easy to source. Headlines today included that obesity is on the rise in Africa. AFRICA!

Congratulations on the Irish Terrier. (so many wins!) Is there are picture we can see? I'll check facebook....

Merry Monday to you as well.

LOL on the mermaid hair. We are in old people country and there are a lot of churches around here...

Normal with respect to food is definitely different for me than for DH's family. My trigger foods call to me. I HAVE to eat at certain times. DH always had to eat, but nothing "calls" to him. He always forgot the cookies were in the cupboard even before Alzheimer's. It has been interesting living with SIL here. She doesn't eat much at any time and often skips meals. She doesn't eat a lot of protein, which may be why she is not just slim, but doesn't have a lot of muscle. I remember her telling me once that her "normal" weight is below what WW allows, so she had to get a doctor to sign off on it. And why was she at WW you ask? Because she was up 10 pounds over her normal very low weight because her husband was doing all the cooking. She probably eats about the same number of calories I do a day, but I'd wager that 1/3 of them are in in her vodka/tonics. I didn't realize she had them daily, but she does. Usually at least 3.

So cool that someone is a fan of your blog Devon, but I'm not surprised once they read it (but how do people find them? I worked with technology but never had a ton of time to poke around looking for things like blogs).
