I was the garbage can this time too!
I was thinking of WLS as a narrow hallway full of closed doors. During the losing phase I thought of all those doors as locked and I lived happily in the hallway. Now I'm finding all those doors are actually unlocked and full of things I love that I wish I didn't know I could tolerate. I get why some vets are so rigid in their personal rules (that they believe should apply to everyone). It's easier to live in the narrow hallway. But not as enjoyable as opening those doors every once in a while. I just need to learn how to not leave every door open all the time...
I love this analogy, too!
Yes, I can also see why exclusively living in narrow hallway works for some folks, but I hope to live differently. Sometimes that means being the garbage can but stepping back into the hallway for respite. That's ok, too.

Both of those metaphors are vivid for me -- the playground and the hallway with lots of doors.
The goals / dreams that spur WLS patients to continue to care for themselves seem to vary a lot -- after all, just look at the diversity of what's important to folks here in our small group.
For me, adherence to my still only a few-years-old-new lifestyle is greatly motivated by (cough, yes, I know it seems superficial!) the clothes hanging in my closet and the ones I salivate over, but refuse to spend monstrous bucks on although I'd LOVE to own and wear them.
The heart loves what the heart loves. ;)

Psssst, I revel in vanity. It didn't seem possible to have any vanity at my top weights and I have had things happen to my body as well.
I am ok see-sawing the other direction.

Greetings Sunday Lovers
144.5 today. Yesterday was family sluggy for me but at least I got my hair cleaned up and maybe found a new hairdresser. It was raining and that so affects my attitude. Lots to do today before DH gets his eye done Tuesday. I actually have to "herd" him into doing things like lifting piles of newspapers and such which he will not be able to do after the eye thing and which I can't do due to hands.
Well you all have fun on the Appalachian trail. If I could do about two miles and then go home that would be good but I am afraid I am not up for a big hike. All my childhood I had the frightened feeling of not being able to keep up with any sports and being left behind so I always opted out. Unless they have a cruise ship, its not for me.
Hey Ann, we visited a couple of state parks years ago that I think might be near you. Elephant Rock State Park and Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park. We used to go to a little resort on the Jack's Fork river (I think). Very fun.
Liz, cool mermaid. I love garden art.
Well get some pie Ann. And eat it first. My friend and I used to remember this old Popeye cartoon quote " Pie Pie, I must have Pie". There is a newer pie restaurant here that has both sweet and savory pies. I have not been there.
That article on grief was very good. I need to print it out and read it more carefully.
Shel hope you are feeling better.
Cecily, interesting concept of closed doors and living in the hallway. Thats exactly how I felt most of my life. Those doors have always been open if we would just go through. But now we fit more easily! Note to self " open a door today".
Hey Dave, hug little Lola. You are blessed.
So I found a new facebook support group for my hand disease. I am one of the more experienced people as I have had all the treatments there are, but it it nice to be able to help others by sharing my experiences.
Well time to open the door to another cup of coffee. Peace and Joy to all. Diane S
149.2. Calories yesterday were 1,324 with 177 C, 46 F and 80 P. Carbs were so high due to blueberry pancakes for lunch. We had mushy blueberries that didn't taste so good in yogurt or just eaten plain but were wonderful in the pancakes. I had 3 boys and one DH that were happy to have the treat and I enjoyed as well!
Liz's statue pic isn't showing for me. I'll just have to imagine the mermaid!
Get the carrot cake (or pie) Ann and enjoy every bite! I love pumpkin bars with cream cheese frosting but it really isn't the season for it right now! I'll have to check out the article you posted. Both from a consumer's perspective but also a healthcare worker!
Appalachians - oh how I would love to go on a trip with you all. I'm sure it won't be in the cards for me this summer with DS#2 graduating and DH still battling cancer. I'll take a rain check on another trip sometime!
Cecily, I know what you mean about those peanut butter filled pretzels, we got the ginormous container for a party here and we had way too many left that way too many found their way into my mouth! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your hallway analogy!!!!
David, have fun visiting Lola! Give her some sweet cheek kisses from me!
Devon, where o where art thou?
Paula
133s. We went on two walks today in the fifty degree weather. Liz... I couldn't see your mermaid either. I am so in for the Appalachians ! I don't do camping, so trail proximity to B&B s or motels would matter to me.
Paula...thanks for the TAVR info. Yes, my moderate leak is the aortic valve. Everything happens for a reason, so it is time for a local cardiologist.
Love the hallway analogy. Doors do open when we need them. I almost bought a big container of peanut butter stuffed pretzels at Tractor Supply last week. LOVE goldfish too.... Having either in the house would be a slippery slope for me.
Diane... I didn't realize how much of a challenge your hands were either. The pain sounds awful. Ann...find that carrot cake, and let's see it logged as a veggie. Dave, Lola is a beauty! How wonderful to have two cousins so close in age !
Linda Spencerella... Please do check in !! Carbon...you too !

OMG, no camping for me on this trip, either! Agree with your lodging sensibilities!
