Hey Shel
Yep, miracles do happen and one made me get up early. I will probably go back to bed.
Cherry pie used to be my fave too. Now probably pecan but I never have it. There used to be an awesome pie restaurant in Omaha but even I got eventually sick of it.
Yep, March around here can be sketchy weather wise. Rain is common and it can pour. Even in April and may. Come any time but just sayin'. It might rain for a week and then stop for a week. Yeah, the last hour on the drive to SF is the bad part starting at Santa Rosa. But they widened the freeway finally. But between here and there the road is 2 lane in parts with nothing but Bigfoot junk stands.
Sorry for the cold. Sounds like snowshoe day was not meant to be. Rest up. Diane S
Greetings! Liz, 80 degrees sounds like heaven! It's supposed to be fairly mild here, for January, but nothing like what you'll be experiencing. My dream for retirement is to spend February and March in the Fort Myers area, for spring training. I am a huge Red Sox fan and would love to be down there then. With one kid currently in college and one only in 7th grade, it may not happen, but I can dream, can't I?
Diane O, cross country skiing - what fun. Have a ball! We haven't been for a few years, but did go snowshoeing last winter. I'd like to get out there and do that again.
Still battling some GI problems. When certain foods come to mind, I immediately go "no way!" so today will be low on veggies, particularly no salad.
I never did get to the de-cluttering yesterday. I did get some laundry done, clean the kitchen, etc. I also took my daughter for a haircut, as she doesn't take care of her hair well and it's always knotted. She wanted a very short cut, and I balked a bit. I said she needs some hair for dance recital, so she can clip in any headpieces. She did get a short cut that she loves, and it does look great on her. But, though I'm not proud to say this, I was getting teary (not in front of her) and realized I didn't want her to look boyish. Guess I have some processing to do around her sexuality, which surprised me, as I thought I was fully ok with it. I am almost in tears right now, because of these feelings. I want to be totally accepting of who she is, but clearly I'm not there yet.
Today we have friends coming over to watch the Patriots, so I'm getting ready to head to the grocery store, as that chore didn't happen yesterday. By the time I heard back from the older kid, that she wasn't going to meet me to shop, it was time to make dinner. I found a couple of web sites with lots of low carb recipes, so I'm going to try a couple this week, and have to get some ingredients. Have a wonderful Sunday all and Go Pats! Hopefully I'm not offending any Jaguar fans. :) Hugs, Mary
Salad and I aren't getting along these days either.
On retirement you just never know! I never envisioned what we are doing when my youngest was in 7th grade either. I think that was the year my oldest got sick.

Hmmm, well I seem to be in Chatty Cathy mode. 2 cups of STRONG coffee.
I have a bitter-sweet food story to share. We had an 82 year old friend I used to play bridge with. He was witty, smart (retired professor) and well traveled. Over the years I have watched him go from an active person to living in an assisted living unit.
This man always smoked a pipe. Just before Halloween he refilled his lighter with fluid, spilled some and managed to ignite it. 17% 3rd degree burns. He was life flighted to a burn unit in SF. There he underwent skin grafts and other awful treatment including dialysis and was in and out of a coma and the icu. He finally decided to end the dialysis and accept the consequences. But before he did so, he called his favorite San Francisco restaurant and had a meal of steak, pizza and wine delivered. He enjoyed that. Shortly thereafter he slipped into a coma and peacefully died.
The only food lesson I can draw from this is if it is truly your last meal, enjoy it, but otherwise eat to live for a long time. Diane S
Wow - I'm glad your friend was able to have some chosen final enjoyment before the inevitable.

Diane, I love your friend's end-of-life choices. Love it.
I'm also about that life advice: Eat dessert!
But like you, just not at every meal. And not seconds. ;) But when we do order dessert, we ought to order something we really, really love.

Good morning all! I finished the 4th set of 6 sets of the Legos, so two of my three buildings have second floors. One is a tiny dentist office complete with a fancy dental chair, spit bowl, tray with shots, light on an arm, etc. The other is a photography studio with an old fashioned tripod camera. My amazement of what they come up with to build with these tiny pieces knows no bounds. Makes me want to find a documentary on the designers or visit them in Denmark or something. The upside is, it's so all consuming that eating takes a back burner!
Today I'm walking with a friend at the beach, then I need to pack up to go to my Dad's house to dogsit his two goofy golden retrievers (and my one) while he and his wife head to Mayo in MN tomorrow to check how his last BCG treatments faired. He's in such a good place right now that I desperately want him to get good news, but I know how nasty and aggressive his cancer type is. The lulls between checks lend a false sense of security and the check events are so nerve wracking. He has yet to get a good report out of these checks, so I'm bracing.
Wishing you all a good Sunday...
