Thank you! I do weigh myself every day and track my food even if it feels like I lost control. I'm really trying to stay "present" and not go into ostrich mode. Awareness of where and I am what I'm doing is such a huge part of that. Now if I could turn off the head hunger that would be awesome!

As Ann so eloquently expressed, you will have to find what works for you which obviously is what the first months (maybe years) of maintenance will be about. I told you what works for me and you will need to find out what works for you.

As a side note, one technique I use when I feel like I want to continue eating junk I shouldn't (like homemade chocolate chip cookies) is to eat some cottage cheese. For some reason it always fills me up quick and stops the cravings.

Cecily, at 3 years and 5 months post-op I'm also doing the things Liz listed above.

However, I get quite a bit of s**t from people (both bariatric patients and others) who think I'm "awfully obsessive" about planning and tracking my food for so many years. But it doesn't feel like that. It just feels like good housekeeping.

BTW, I have NEVER imagined I can be one of those people who can mindfully eat normally. I imagine that if I ate only what occurred to me to eat just prior to eating it I'd wind up nibbling on crap all day long. And, unfortunately, the more crap I eat, the more crap I eat.

Not saying those are anyone else's issues. But they are mine and I have owned them and learned how to respond in ways that helped me lose weight and then maintain my weight loss.

However, what will work for me might not be what works for you. It seems to me that each of us has to learn what works best for us. One thing I realized long ago is that I had to be very careful about the negative influences on me of friends or associates who insisted I do what they thought was best for me. I hope I don't come across like this! And I hope none of your other friends do either.

You'll figure this out, Cecily. I know you will.

Yup! :) It was in early December. Hubby and I share the same birthday, which is awesome! :) Yesterday I finally changed my signature block after finally finding out where / how to do that, which had eluded me for weeks.
