New Year 2018! January 1, 2018

Happy New Year!

Like Diane O, I think of you as my friends. I always feel a pang of guilt when I fail to check in for a day or two! This group remains a great anchor for me on my journey.

Diane's mention of 3 years ago made me pause to realize I had VSG 6 years ago. AMAZING! While I'm obese again, I have to acknowledge how much healthier I am and how much insight into who I am and why I am obese. Invaluable and priceless are words that come to mind when I think about how much those things mean to me today.

I am officially OLD! I found myself wanting to watch and listen to Guy Lombardo's New Year's Eve at the Waldorf Astoria last night rather than watch Dick Clark's Rockin' New Year's Eve with Ryan Seacrest. However, I did tune in long enough to catch Mariah Carey singing LIVE this year to redeem her major lip sync fail of last year. Anyway, I wish one network would actually televise a NYE celebration that used acoustical instruments and had melodies one could hum and sing along with. Fuddy Duddy! That's me. I wear it proudly!

Taking the pups to see their human "grandma". She is the local grand dame of Airedale Terriers. Her boyfriend (which I love - they are both in their 70s - he uses a walker, but they are absolutely adorable. This weekend is their 1 year anniversary!) Okay... sorry, digression syndrome.... her boyfriend is a former handler and swears to God this litter is the best litter of Airedales he has seen in the last 50 years! Makes me feel pretty proud. The boyfriend told me I kept the wrong male. He has seen the one I gave the "whack job" lady and thinks there could be nothing better. Hahaha! There is. His name is Lucky and then Dot is better than either of them (though Lucky trumps every puppy in temperament and personality!). So, today we are taking Lucky and Dot to see the old guard and get their blessing! More for them than for me. I already know I kept the right pups for me!

Well, I must get ready for the day.

My BOOOOOOOOOO for the day is the fact that I have to get up to go to work tomorrow and that is sure gonna color my evening! BOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

What about the tooth? Who had the questionable tooth that was threatening the show career? Is it still wait and see?

The tooth is better, but not yet perfectly set. The grand dame gave it the okay, though. She thinks it's going to be just fine when he finishes growing. I saw Lucky's brother yesterday, who had a perfect mouth, but hadn't dropped both his testicles when he went to his new home. He and Lucky were the two male contenders. I chose the the boy (Lucky) with the testicles and took a risk on the mouth. The brother now has two testicles and his mouth has the same wonky tooth that Lucky does. Go figure! I am very happy I kept Lucky. He is definitely the right choice for me.

I'm glad Mariah redeemed herself.

But for the record, Ryan Seacrest annoys the s**t out of me. I just want to *****slap him everytime he shows up on a red carpet.

Go figure.

Happy New Year, New Friends! I stayed at my dad's house last night and we had a lovely lobster dinner with belated birthday cupcakes and ice cream for me. Deli****hen up early to watch the Rose Parade and have a nice breakfast. The float I got to work on won an award. It was fun to see them all on tv. A good end/start to the year!

My dad seems a lot steadier on his feet which is wonderful to see. The family is glad to have 2017 behind us and are hoping and praying for a healthy 2018 for everyone. My dad, aunt, and cousin in law are all battling cancer so some good news and a good year for all is our New Years wish.

I think I'll get myself together and head home to de-Christmafy my house.

Have a great January 1st!

Greetings 2017 Survivors

145 today which does not please me. Yesterdays indiscretions were an ice cream sandwich, a handful of peanuts and mini tacos for dinner. It appears I have gained about 10 pounds this year. Not happy about that. Its all on me and I have to own it. I seem to have derailed this year and can't help thinking I should make a new plan (even though that smells like a new years resolution which is doomed to failure). I guess I should think more in terms of establishing some new habits.

Sounds like we all had a cozy midnight hour at home. We went to bed and our only disturbance was our scairdy little doggie Tesla who was mildly upset by fireworks. Paula, I hope your little doggie is doing better and wish I had some ideas. And happy new year to Chiquita, Buster, Dot, Lucky, the parrot, Atlas, Sadie and all the fur and feather babies!. We are indeed a little family as we all know each other's family members and names of pets. And yeah, I tell DH about the news here. Like the parrot tweet story.

Devon I wish you would post your sketch. I am intrigued by the idea. And love the stuff about having an audience with the grande dame of Airedales and the admiration of your litter! The world of dogs is so compelling.

Speaking of dogs, I am doing dog laundry. A bunch of sheets and pillow cases that I keep on the living room sectional to deal with footprints and such. The least I can do for our Rose Bowl guest though her house is even messier than mine.

Yes Paula and Ann, keep us posted on respective DH's. We care.

Shel, everyone's snow plow looks dorky. Thats mostly what I did as a downhill skier years ago. And I looked super dorky. No one had all the instant video in those days. Good thing. I don't think I will ever ski again but love hearing the ski stories of others. I quit skiing years ago mainly because I got so fat I could not find ski wear that fit.

We are recording the Rose Parade. Have to look for Cecily's float.

This little group was started 7 years ago about a year after my surgery. Who knew??!!

Well thats all for now. Lets hope for a year of Peace for a change. Diane S

Wt 237 I was up but now back down. I was craving bagels. It was not N&Y so I bought some. I gained 4 pounds. Then cut N&Y way down. It does come off again if I keep calories low enough just need to keep the calories low and not give into cravings so readily. Yes, N&Y is a craving too. It is nice to know it will come back off again. Even if it is again. It has been so cold here. Lived in AK for 2 years. I was never cold to the core like I am in AR and MS. In AK it was a dry cold. 4o on the bank sign this morning. Water is still running to the Airstream. If we lose power we will freeze. I guess we could go back to our house for a few days if we need to. I receive more from this group than I give. Some days I do not post. It is still a light in my day. Our group is multi faceted. It is social, supportive, therapeutic, thought provoking, accepting, a place to be accountable, safe and community. I am glad to be part of us. I read even when I do not post. I sometimes read it to my DW and she said she feels like she knows all of you too. I think there are a large number of lurkers by the view numbers. We could benefit even more if they posted too. More later, David
