Good morning ! Four more JFGSD days in 2017 ! Got the tree down yesterday. Sadie and I did therapy work at the VA last night and the Vets were eager to see her. One nurse said a fragile woman who wasn't getting out of bed had been asking for her. I left my phone number and said we'd be happy to come in just to see her, if we could be an incentive.
I went to have low lights yesterday, and my stylist said my base was still too ashy (my boxed attempt to get rid of the white after woman at Mom's facility asked if I was new there) and I needed one more adjustment first. Six more weeks !
Devon, Chuck always said he preferred cats over dogs, and claimed to tolerate dogs. He assisted with her upbringing, and participated in puppy training, but was gone for a year + of her growth. When we joined him here in May, Sadie had become very attuned to his PTSD, and has offered companionship and support he respects and appreciates. He was the one who suggested adding a puppy to our family. I was so thrilled at the open window, my memories of how much sleep interruption is not his forte were pushed back. He takes medication to sleep and is a fairly light sleeper. Because he works and I don't, I'm guarding his sleep to reserve his store of patience for the day. He been a fabulous working puppy partner during the day. That being said, Atlas slept through the night last night. I continue to use Ann's open the door imagry to forge ahead into conversations I am tempted to avoid, and brought up the concept of paying now or paying later. He was open to addressing problem behaviors and nipping them in the bud. There are some issues here I have to continue to explore.

Good morning! Weight 117.5, calories 1404. Calories were a little high still, but I felt that my choices were better. We went out with friends to a Cambodian restaurant last night. Wonderful!
Attempt #1 at a board game did not go well. Parcheesi is apparently too much for DH. He couldn't figure out how to count the squares and what direction to move in (or even what color his pawns were). And understanding out how to use the count on the dice was just beyond him. Wow, I'm glad he isn't driving anymore. Maybe something he played a lot as a child will go better. I'm going to keep trying.
It is COLD here (10 right now, with the low expected to be 3). It is not predicted to go above 30 in the next 10 days. We are already looking forward to our Florida return a week from tomorrow.
Have a terrific Thursday!

Liz, the whole game thing can be quite a shock. It felt to me that it over-exposed MIL's vulnerabilities in a way no one wanted to see. But, we kept at it because she enjoyed games in the past.
She did best with matching card games. You know the type....everyone has a hand of cards, the rest of the deck is in the center. As the center cards are revealed, they can be matched up with what is in the hand. Does this make sense? There are a fair amount of these type of card games out there, targeted at young kids. MIL did not seem bothered by the pictures of penguins, etc. They were just fun.
For more complicated games (and eventually that included matching games) we would play with partners. But, since there was only 3 of us (me, MIL and DD) only MIL and DD would be paired as partners and I would play by myself. Calling it a partner game seemed helpful.

I got UNO for Christmas too. DH and I used to play it with the kids. So I'm going to try that next.

'Morning!
DianeO, I love your doggie stories, all of the them!
X-Country skied yesterday. I'm not very good at it but that's ok. Just nice to be out in nature. It was snowing lightly most of the time.
Peace and Hope, Shel

Weight 164.4 yikes. Calories ???
My holiday/birthday eating period has come to an end. Time to drag my rear back onto the wagon.
It was a very nice birthday! My friend and I went to see Lady Bird. I didn't dislike it, but can't say I loved it either. Glad to have seen it though.
This morning I'm hiking in Laguna Canyon again. My goal for 2018 is to hike 2-3 times a week and extend the distance I can comfortably hike from 6-7 miles to 10-12. My hips seem to be the first to give out on me!
Happy Thursday everyone!

It was a great hike this morning, and as it was offered as a fitness hike, it was super fast with a ton of uphill. Whew!! But it was great to know I can be at the head of a pack of 25 people and not die or hold anyone else up.
This is called Casper rock as it looks like a ghost (we decided it looked more like Jabba the Hutt)
This was just a momentary pretty, flat part when I wasn't gasping for air so could take a picture:
