I just read all of yesterday's posts and loved each one. Y'all are such smart, clever folks, not to mention excellent writers. Reading your posts gives me so much pleasure. Thank you!
Yesterday, after a quick little walk around the frosty meadows, I drove to The Big City Airport and brought hubby's daughter home for a week's visit. We adore having her here. During our 2.5 hour drive home, she and I had such an intimate conversation about her dad, old family stories, her current stresses, her friends, her goals and more. There's nothing that helps you catch up with someone like a road trip.
I'm glad JFDI rung some bells out there and that everyone now knows what it means. ;)
Yesterday's sensible eating took Karma's foot off my scales this morning. Yesterday's 6 V/Fs came from black beans and tomatoes (leftover chili from Christmas Eve), bamboo shoots, plantain, more black beans, and peppers, and black grapes. I didn't drink enough water, given my justifiable concern that I couldn't find many on-the-road pee stops on Christmas Day. Today can be a wetter one. ;)
Today's Theme: JFDI, Day Two
P.S. Just remembered that I haven't added my own enthusiasm to the plans for BB's virtual baby shower. I'm SO IN for this celebration!

JFDI Day #2 it is !!! Devon, you are not the only one who had to Google it ! I knew I knew it, and grinned with pleasure when I refreshed my memory.
136 OTD here. Housebreaking efforts have hit a rough patch, with high winds, frigid temperatures and snow. Picking up some training pads this morning, as a viable alternative when outside is not an option.
Quiet day yesterday. Gravy and mashed potato with roast beef, and brussel sprouts were the only atypical offerings outside of the cheesecake bites for dessert. Neither Chuck nor I want whole pies/cakes promoting left overs or over indulgence. We are happy paying extra for portioned pieces that can be enjoyed and over with.
I'm going to make peace with my AbDoer 360 today, as a long walk is not in my near future. We gave that and Wii Sports to each other for Christmas.
So, let's JFDI !! Onward and upward !!

Good morning. It sounds like you had a great talk with your DSD. We have so enjoyed our DSD this weekend. We will miss her a lot when she leaves today. She has been out of work (marketing) since early this year and just had to borrow some significant funds to keep going, but things are looking up as she has a 2-3 month high paying contract in Calgary/Seattle for the next few months and some other job possibilities percolating for the longer term. We have helped the others as needed and I was glad she felt comfortable asking me. She was laughing the other day about how "Modern Family" we are after visiting with her stepfathers side of the family. Yesterday she and most of the siblings (one full and several step) gathered at her stepbrother's mothers home (stepfather's ex wife). How crazy and wonderful it is that she is open to that!
Today we drive DSD to the bus, then are going to a friends for dinner and board games. I probably told you I bought a couple of games for DH for Christmas, as I think he needs some stimulation and we need to have more interaction. Question for any of you who play games. When I was young I played backgammon and enjoyed it. Do you think that is too much for someone with Alzheimer's? Chess definitely is too much and the games I got which I think will work are UNO and Parcheesi.
More days follow in which to watch the food/wine ingestion as we are going out to dinner with other friends tomorrow, then BIL and SIL are coming for New Years weekend to celebrate the holiday.
I'm missing my old puppy every morning when I sit in the sunroom with the fire going. I am looking longingly at affectionate young doggies. But Chiquita has perked up tremendously and eating a LOT - we may need to start measuring quantities again soon.
Have a tremendous Tuesday!

I'm wondering if Yatzee might be a good game to add to the list. He might need a chart to remind him of the top and bottom combinations, but that is very doable.

There are several games that you can play with dominoes. My mom plays some at her retirement apartments. I made her a large size set out of corian counter tops scraps. She has macular degeneration and did not know if she could even see the dots. She says she can. Regular dominoes has some math for points. Might be good for him.

Well, my venture into the 150s didn't last long with eating like I've done this week!
Off on another hike this morning and maybe movies this afternoon. Yesterday's movie didn't happen as Star Wars was sold out.
Hope everyone who needs to begins to "dry out" from all the Christmas goodies. I know I need to!
Greetings Christmas Survivors
Well I made it through at 144. Christmas was delightful at our friends but it was hard seeing some of the older ones decline. But fun being around a group of highly educated and informed and passionate people. A tonic.
But guess what. For the first time in ages I ate too much and quietly had to go in the potty and spit up. " I spit up for Christmas " (to the tune of "I'll Be Home for Christmas") LOL. It wasn't much but I was sure uncomfortable for a bit. Live and learn. Then I came home and ate all the home made toffee I was given - which was only a small amount - but tossed the other goodies as I didn't like them. Gifted the liver pate and brought no leftovers home. We were given two huge loaves of cranberry nut bread which I will promptly give away.
Ann, glad you had some talk time with DD. She is lucky to have you as a confidant.
And Liz, Diane O has a good idea with the Yatzee game. My mom used to love to play that even when she didn't understand the goals. She loved to roll the dice and see what came up. Sometimes she would get agitated but couldn't move around so rolling dice was a good activity. Also a card game called "Kings in the Corner" which is pretty simple. I play it on my iPad now.
Cecily glad you had some time with your Dad. I used to always call my mom at Christmas if I wasn't there. This year I realized I had no one to call so I called my niece to see how her little boy liked Christmas. She has been somewhat distant and I need to work on that.
Yeah, the Atkins diet is very much like a barriatric diet with high protein and low carbs. But it permits more fat than a post wls diet. And you have to stick with the lowest carb veggies at least in the early phase. DH follows the program exactly (like he thinks green beans are too high carb!). At least he is going to stop all the junk food he has been eating and it helps me to have it out of the house.
Haircut tomorrow with a new hairdresser. I think I will go in for a big change. Could be fun or a disaster. This hairdresser has a ring in her nose. . . .
Kiln opens today that was fired last week. It takes 3 days to cool down. I need to work on the Valentines day stuff starting now.
Hey Dave, you surprise me all the time! Grew up in Africa with a pet parrot? Who knew? I bet you have stories to share with grandkids about that.
Well enough for now. 2017 has been kind of a tough year. Lets make 2018 a good one. Diane S
I did the Atkins for years pre WLS. It kept me from gaining. The thought of that much meat now makes me ill.
I have not had a boring life. My brother had snakes, I had parrots, rabbits, chickens and a dog. My sister had a cat. We had a monkey for a short time. They are very messy. My dad was a preacher and we moved every 3 years or so. My dad then became a missionary to Ghana, West Africa. We moved there when I was 13 and moved back to the states when I was 15. I talked him into moving back and then did not go. Fell in love with DW at summer school and was married at 17. I robbed the cradle and had to kick the sides out of my cradle to do it. She has kept things lively.

While in Africa, a monkey lived in the guava tree outside my hut. Her name was Booboo which is Mandikan for monkey so not exactly creative naming but fun for me to say.
Booboo was a treat to have has a neighbor. Sometimes I brought her into my house or back yard to keep the kids from teasing her.
She was always concerned about my own personal boo boos meaning she would quickly lick her fingers and then try to quickly apply her spit to my cuts and scrapes on lower legs and feet. I would be like STOP IT cuz, no matter how sweet, I think monkey spit is gross. (The next great pharmaceutical will probably come from monkey spit)

Wt 237 N&Y, coffee and not enough water. I have the makings for green shakes maybe I will do that today.
My niece and her wife just had a baby. We are in different parts of the state but see pictures on FB. That first 48 hours I swear it looked just like ours. It is funny how fast they grow and start filling out their faces. All went well.
I finished the tops for the pharmacy but the fixtures arrived incorrect or missing parts so I can't install them. No ru**** has been raining here lately so I do not know if I can drag any more logs from the burn pile.
I looked outside yesterday and there were 2 turkeys in the driveway. They saw me through the window and ran off. It was comical to see them scramble.
More later, David
