Cost of Veggies and Fruits

For those wondering about the prices of veggies and fruits, below is a catalog of the V/Fs I purchased this morning at Aldi's during my twice-a-week shopping trip there. As you can see, the prices aren't prohibitive (at least not in terms of my own grocery budget). I've found in my little town that Aldi's offers the best quality produce at the lowest prices.

I also shop a bit for V/Fs at our local Walmart, but their prices for V/Fs are 25-50% higher than Aldi's prices. Shocking, eh? So much for Walmart's slogan since 2008: "Save Money. Live Better." Pre-2008, their slogan was "Low Prices Always."

Obviously, the average serving price of V/Fs purchased anywhere will vary, depending on which V/Fs are purchased. The average single serving price of the above selection of V/Fs is $0.34. Also note that the above selections and volumes purchased provide 48 servings of V/Fs, or 6 days of 8 V/Fs eaten.

The average daily cost of 8 of these particular V/Fs eaten over a 6-day period is $2.73. For comparison purposes, yesterday I paid $3.30 for an Egg McMuffin.

Caveat: None of the prices cited above include sales tax.

Boy, I sure do like Aldi's produce prices. They are far less where you live than here in CA (which is pretty funny since we grow most of the stuff you list!) 1 small Haas avocado on sale here is usually $1.00. Most of the time we can find them on sale for 2 small or medium avocados for $3.00. If not on sale they can be up to $3.50 or $4.00 a pop!

Table grapes average $4.99 a pound!

Missouri certainly has some financial perks!

Except that here it's not as blue as California or New Mexico (where I lived very happily for 30 years ... sigh). :(

Oh well, we're sort of purple, with a R-senator and a D-senator (Claire McCaskill). Oops, I did it ... got political. :)

I'm definitely checking it out today! There are a couple nearby here in Florida (none in Massachusetts near me though).
