I agree, BB -- your friends need to host this shower for you.

I started to reply earlier and my internet connection broke. I don't believe that the person having the baby ever has the shower even today based on my searches. And you point out some good reasons why. Generally friends or family do it. We adopted our two youngest and the younger DD arrived 15 years after the next one up so we had NOTHING. We hosted a party for her baptism after her arrival which in some ways was like a shower

Expectant mom NEVER plans her own shower. Just not done! Around here it's usually a female co-worker or the woman's sister, sister in law, or mom, or her best friend. We always have a staff shower for expectant teachers, but I've been invited to many personal baby showers of my co workers and honestly, it's usually a best friend or sister who hosts.

Just sayin' it's not your job and it should certainly not be done at your home! End of subject!!!!!!

Thank you! I definitely thought it was odd to suggest they'd host, but my house. But as I'd just been to one like that, I thought maybe I'm old-fashioned. Seems not only poor etiquette, but also too much work for the guest of honor!!

Diane-I have heard of showers being held at restaurants and other entertaining centers, but in my part of the country that's pretty rare. They are normally home showers ****asionally work showers) that are home-catered or nearly-home-catered. (punch, cake, small sandwiches, fruit, veggies, nuts, etc.)

Both of my sisters live out of town, and my coworkers are all family sooo.... ;) This definitely needs to be far from my worries right now. I'm sure one of my mom's friends, or one of my friend's or husband's coworkers (now all my friends) will have me taken care of!

I agree with every one above! I'm sorry that no one is stepping up, no doubt the time of year is playing a part. I last threw a shower >17 years ago, before DD.

These days, almost all I have attended have been at work or in a restaurant. Maybe you could throw out the restaurant idea to your friend who wanted to help host? She may not feel she has the space or ability to get all the food together on her own. You should be a pampered guest, no matter what.

Some guests like having a registry to pick from --- personally, I only look if the mom is very young and perhaps not financially secure. In that case, I feel like we really are pitching in to make sure she and baby have everything they need for a solid launch. Then, I add a few books because can never have too many books! But, that's just me.

Agree on books. I would love to throw a shower themed after Children's nursery rhymes or books. I do like the registry idea just because I hate someone opening the same gift, or getting seemingly 100s of newborn outfits.

Happy Halloween!

Parade is done. Party this afternoon. So far no sugar has passed my lips, but I plan on allowing something later in the day. For those of you who know the story, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, my third grade team dressed as a mouse, a cookie, and a carton of milk. I dressed as the carton of milk.

Shel, if you had only 3 pieces, color me impressed! I think I had 37! (Not really, but might as well have been!)

Last puppy leaves early Thursday morning. New owner is driving down from Tacoma tomorrow, will spend the night and then leave early, early in the morning on Thursday. I will be up far earlier than normal I suspect.

As my 6 year surgiversary approaches I find myself reflecting upon my WLS. It is worth examining some of the thoughts floating around in my head.

Greetings Maintenance Spooks

139 still, even with heavy socks. Grateful for that though I didn't eat much yesterday.

Lots to do for Halloween tonight. Woke up worrying about it. Just put the pot roast in slow cooker for beef barley soup. Veggies to fix, two soups, cheeses and such. but lots of house stuff to do like get rid of bags of recycle and clear off the counter and get out folding tables and figure out dog strategy. I think Tesla will have to stay in her kennel. She is just too wild. don't remember what we did with her last year.

Well Liz, hope your day improves. No doubt scale is wonky. But that doesn't help things. More coffee as you work.

Phooey Shel, with your other pharmacist gone does that make more work for you? 3 weeks is a long time.

Clearing up papers sure reveals a lot of dust. No wonder I have been feeling sort of sneezy. No I am not one of 7 dwarves. I am a grey haired Snow White!

Well BB I hear you on the baby shower thing. Someone should step up. Might be a relief to your friends if you offered your own house even though you should not have to clean. Or could it be at a restaurant or other venue? My wedding shower was held in the back private room of a restaurant years ago but it was small. Hope it works out.

Well gotta go. trick or treat. diane s

I LOVE HALLOWEEN AT SCHOOL! probably one of my all time favorite days of the year. The kids are so excited and happy. It's such a special day at school. I simply don't understand the teachers who just loathe this day. It is a day that exudes joy!

My third grade team decided to dress to represent the book, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. Loved my milk costume. Easiest ever!
