No scales. So I have been tearing up the wall and putting a window in. Something I have dreaded for years. Just goes to show you should tackle first what makes you the most uncomfortable. Years of wasted dread. Window is in. Almost trimmed. I have a blood draw today for labs and a dentist appointment. And Monday hearing doctor and my mom s retinal specialist. At least I am in the correct city.

It's settled -- we're going to St. Louis for hubby's further diagnostic tests. He's very relieved not to have to go to Houston. But first, we're in the insurance approval stage -- Paula and others know all about that, since it's how medicine gets done these days. Hubby is so glad to have a plan now. Last night we both slept like rocks.

Yesterday's 8 veggies and fruits came from leftover grilled red/orange/red sweet peppers and mushrooms, a pomegranate (wow, was it good!), tomatoes, romaine lettuce, and red seedless grapes. I missed aquarobics class because of the oncologist appointment, and we took it easy all day.

This weekend we're going to The Big City to meet up with some of our best friends who are visiting the area from Washington, DC. We're all staying at a nice boutique hotel Friday night, and we'll take them to dinner to a wonderful restaurant hubby and I love. A good time will be had by all. :)

BTW, it's definitely cooler, breezy fall weather around here! Am wearing some real clothes again.

David -- isn't that the truth: "Years of wasted dread." Get 'er done! And Liz, safe travels as you head to the OH confab. Tell us all about it!

Today could be a Tender Thursday or a Thin Thursday, but hopefully it won't be a Terrible Thursday. :)

Back in my range by the skin of my sleeve....139.8... if 139s count ! I'd like a bit more buffer, so will continue logging and increase activity.

OMG.... have a dinner to share. Portabella egg bake ! Heavenly !! I hollowed out the largest portabellas I could find, with my melon baller. Scrambled four eggs with S & P and dry mustard, added diced mushroom innards, onions, peppers and cheddar cheese, and refilled caps in olive oiled square baking pan. (Should have high sides, as I nicked my caps hollowing them out, and there was some leakage.) I baked at 350 for 50 minutes. To die for. I'd add some ham or chicken sausage etc. next time, though !! So easy and you "eat the dishes" !

Tremendous, temptation-free Thursday !!

Mmmmmmm, that recipe sounds yummy Ocean Diane! Congrats on getting back into range so quickly!

Ann, happy that you and DH have a plan for his treatment. Praying that the insurance issues all get worked out. We decided to take the much more expensive insurance plan this year ($600 more per month than the other one) but we can choose out of Network providers and shouldn't have to go through the hassle that we did this past year! I thought of you and your veggies last night as I made my dinner - roasted chicken breast with roasted baby reds, onions and asparagus. It was super yummy and provided 3 different veggies in one sitting! Pork Lo Mein tonight with scallions, ****ake mushrooms, tri-colored peppers, and sugar snap peas. Oh, I have to ask since I have forgotten. What does fika mean again in relation to your afternoon activities with DH? I know I knew at one point but can't remember now. I know it took me quite a while to get Liz's WFH abbreviation too! Lol!

Liz, enjoy the OH conference. So wish I was traveling some place warm!

Dave, I agree with Shel. I would love to hire a rent-a-Dave for all the odds and ends around here. It is hard not to have a fix-it person in the household!

Devon, surprising news about Blue! It does sound like she will be going to a very good home that will spoil her though! What does this mean for you keeping/getting another puppy? As a breeder, did her singleton birth histories factor into the decision? No judgement, just curious how it works in the show dog breeding world!

As for me, weight up a little to 148 OTD. I was just under 600 calories post lunch then went grocery and Halloween party shopping (DS#2 is hosting a scary movie party for his friends on Saturday). I bought the dreaded Halloween candy to fill little tins for party favors this weekend (why oh why did I open the candy????) and also made homemade caramel corn for a bake sale next week (won't have time to make it next week). So just over 500 "junk" calories came in between 4 and 10:30 pm yesterday for a day's total calories of 1,397 with a whopping 102 grams from sugar! Yikes!

Ben (DH) saw the surgeon yesterday and was opened up in the office under local. I guess most of his belly infection was gone but there was a lot of scar tissue. The surgeon removed that and now Ben will have to pack a wound daily so it can heal from the inside out. Not sure how deep it is.....I wasn't at the appointment but I will find out today when I help him with dressing the wound. We go back to Mayo next week for a PET/CT scan.

I have more treats to make for the bake sale, either today or this weekend. Chocolate dipped pretzel rods topped with goodies (toffee pieces, mini M&Ms, sprinkles). I'm going to try very hard to not do any snacking on the supplies!

House cleaning and some exercise on tap for today. Yesterday only got in some PT for my right knee that has been giving me trouble for over a month! Thankfully, my manager is a PT and was able to recommend some exercises for me, so no appointment necessary!

Paula-YOU AMAZE ME. I hope you're told that enough. Allow yourself to feel like this is a season of life with the weightloss goals. Take care of yourself, but be kind to yourself. I wish I could jump through the computer screen and eat your yummies.

Paula, "fika" is a Swedish term for a Swedish daily work break that always includes coffee, a sweet of some kind, and conversation or activities that have NOTHING to do with work.

Here's a brief online description of the Swedish fika traditions.

http://www.swedishfood.com/fika

BTW, we decided to do this because of one of hubby's long-gone ancestors used to describe the fika her family had on their farm when the men would come in from the fields twice a day for morning fika and afternoon fika.

We have our fika in combination with the two daily crosswords we do. :)

Yes, Blue's conception rate did figure into the equation. I spent roughly 10K on those two singleton pregnancies and births this year. I'm not willing to spend that again, so I made a choice to have her spayed. Knwoing how much I love showing and breeding and raising puppies I have to think about how many dogs I have at home at one time. I am comfortable with 5. 6 is pretty much my upper limit. I've had six at a time before and that's about my limit. I can still give each one attention, but it takes some doing.

Also, I bred Blue to 3 different dogs, all of whom had long, elegant necks. Blue does not have this trait. Of the 8 puppies she has had (the litter of 6 and the two singletons) she has produced only 2 with longer necks. When I bred her to the number one dog in the history of the breed, who is also her grandfather, I was doubling up on elegance. I got elegance except in length of neck, which causes the dog to look out of proportion. It is a strictly breeder thing to be this nit picky, but the goal is to always improve not only health but physical balance (which also creates structural soundness - especially as the dog ages).

Blue loves people and is very outgoing. She also would like to have a devotee, but is content to get what she gets. She is very willing to please, is sensitive to her human counterparts needs and moods, and I know she will thrive in a home where she will get more one to one attention. She will be a bit sad at first until she bonds with Michael or Lynn because she is definitely my dog. However, her need to work and please will be better met in her new home.

So, yes, lots goes into the decision. It is a very hard one for me to make. I truly love my dogs with all my heart and spend a great deal of time with them as pups and young dogs to instill in them confidence and trust in humans. I will be a mess the day before she leaves, but I will hold it together the day she goes. Sometimes as a breeder, when you love a dog you have to let it go so it can live the best life it can.
