Easy peasy day yesterday -- a long soak in the bath, some reading, and, unusual for us, college football instead of crosswords. I'm a University of Texas grad (grad school), and hubby wanted to root for OU in the Big Game. He won. ;)
Yesterday's V/Fs fell short at 5. Most came from the luncheon mushroom/sweet peppers/cherry tomatoes sandwich with a potato at dinner with meat loaf. For dessert, I had chocolate truffles with no regrets. :)
We've started to read the chess book. Those Dummies books are laid out so smartly. I love the visual design of books and documents; it's one of my things. I'm also reading an insightful and visually beautiful book on fashion/personal style. Also finishing up an old Patricia Highsmith novel. I've made a resolution to read something substantial every day. Have no idea why, in retirement, I'm not already doing that!
This morning I'll enjoy some deck yoga and read. And today I'll get back on the V/F train. And keep breathing deeply.

Ann, your luncheon sandwich sounds and looks glorious ! This group could put together one awesome pot luck !!
Celebrating1000 consecutive days on My Fitness Pal !! I log food intermittently, as needed...most options are well habituated. I weigh daily, and log any increases/decreases of more than two pounds or ANYTHING above/below my range. I can't recall the last time it was the latter.
Looking forward to 80 degrees and yard work !

Weird - I didn't see your posting until just now (didn't see it after I posted). I'm deleting that one again and adding my posting here:
Late start this foggy rainy morning: It is 7 already! I slept at least an hour later than usual. Weight 116, calories 1835 (not as bad as I thought they'd be, but up there). BIL was here for the second night. DH, SIL, BIL and I went to DS's restaurant for dinner last night. Very enjoyable!
We are going with BIL to look at a house for rent in the area today. We did a drive by last night and it is a cute little 700 square foot place with a front porch and an nice patio walking distance to the water. BIL is sounding like his expectations of what he should be getting may be too high as it is only $800 a month (a more normal sized house away from the water rents for $1500 and up off-season). If it is decent and clean inside, it is a bargain!
I made a pot of chili and cornbread yesterday (the latter for DH). Talk of chili here recently spurred me and once the chili was cooking, DH had to have his cornbread. He used to make it all the time because he also likes to eat it with breakfast, but making it is beyond him now. I'll have to make it more often. On that note, he was struggling with making tuna salad yesterday. He does okay with a few things but his repertoire is definitely diminishing.
Have a Superior Sunday!

What is it like to sashay into your DSs restaurant? Does everyone treat you like the VIP's you are?
That house sounds great. I want it.

Hi Guys,
Well, this morning I am paying a 12 dollar penalty because I signed up for a gym class that I am skipping at this very moment. Much guilt about that.....I am super cheap plus I feel like I am cheating myself. Yet, couldn't drag myself to do it. Much rationalization (some legit, I think) going on. I will yoga later.
Yesterday, hiked with DN (neighbor.) It was 13 miles with 3000 ft elevation gain. I didn't want to do that either. I didn't see her text until relatively late Friday night and wasn't prepared in mind/house/snacks. I knew there would be snow and the local REI didn't have microspikes in stock. My boots are no longer waterproof. It would be cold. Still, I said Yes before I really thought about it and then didn't want to be a quitter.
Oh, and DN's BFF was going. I had never met her before but have heard a lot about her. Her workplace is a helicopter....she is a nurse that goes everywhere to airlift hurt people to safety. I know that DN is intimidated by her physical prowess which is saying a lot. If I am ever injured on a mountain, I want DNBFF on my rescue team.
Just so we are clear, add scared of DNBFF to my growing list of why-I-was-pissy.
At the trailhead, as I put on my boots, I realized they were dry on the outside but the interior was still wet from last weekend. Sweet.
DN's BFF set the pace of the hike and we FLEW up to the lake. But flying just applied to my heart rate, it took 3 hours just to get to the lake then 2.5 hours to get back. My **** poor attitude made it seem a lot longer.
Oh! DNBFF had Ozzie the Australian Shepard with her, he was the best part of the day! He was in snow heaven, first running up the trail and then zooming back to herd us slow pokes. I loved his happy face. He was so expressive, from his can-you-believe-how-wonderful-this-snow-is? (No, Ozzie, I cannot believe that) to his quizzical backwards looks -- "Are you ok? Are you coming?"
In the end, I was glad I went and (maybe) appreciated DNBFF's pacing. (Sort of) fun to push oneself. Definitely grateful for the whole experience. I'll be near REI's flagship store on Wed and will buy new boots. I love that store. Just thinking about it makes me feel good.
By the way, made chili last night. Perfect. Ann, loved the picture of your lunch yesterday. Might copy that today.
Devon, thinking of you and CA today. I hope things rapidly improve. I can not BELIEVE how fast those fires were/are.

Super story about your hike and super pix of the lake and terrain. But no Ozzie?! We want to see Ozzie!
BTW, I read your whole post to hubby, who says hello. He says he's glad YOU walked 13 miles yesterday. ;)

The very best views can't be photographed :)
Ozzie does have a dark side. He loves people but very much wants to fight dogs, any dog. He had to be kept on leash on the way back. When another dog approached, DNBFF would have to muscle him off the trail while he rapidly snapped and lunged. Sometimes, there was very little room to move off the trail so the dogs were separated only by human bodies. DN has commented on Ozzie's behavior in the past so it wasn't a one-off.
Most of the other dogs ignored him or looked embarrassed for him. One 20-something gal quietly commented that her pretty yellow lab "just wants to play" as Ozzie went for the jugular. Most trail dogs are well behaved whether on-leash (like they are supposed to be) or off leash. Ozzie's behavior was out of norm. I bet he was well-discussed along the trail. "Did you see a bear? No, but there is this dog....."
It was easy to imagine disaster if DNBFF lost control. There would be no defending Ozzie in court if he damaged another beloved pet assuming he survived a fight. And heaven forbid if an owner was injured trying to intervene. I suppose it speaks to DNBFF's self confidence that she continues to bring him on hikes where there are sure to be other dogs. While he was the best part of the hike, that is selective memory on my part. I'm not sure I care to hike with him again.
Tell DH hello, too! I never learned to play chess so looking forward to your progress.

ERK! DNBFF and Ozzie have an "interesting" relationship. Hmmmm. That's a lot of "confidence" in one dyad. ;)
