Greetings Maintenance Mentors

Guess thats what we are and good on us for it. Last night I failed miserably in my maintenance mission and ate crackers and crackers and cheese and more crackers at our art opening. Also dip. My duty was to help with food replenishment and I decided I had to eat all the broken crackers to keep the plates looking nice. Wine didn't help. The result is 139 today. I really need to get on this. Its not pretty. I should have eaten some dense protein before I went. Rats! (no that is NOT dense protein).

But we did have a great event and sold some art and an Elvis impersonator showed up and we also had harp music. It also was clear and we could see the big moon.

Must take Tesla out for a spin today. No more excuses. Shrimp and veggies tonight.

Liz, I also have no sisters but DH came with three lovely ones. They are fun and good. Its good to have sisters of whatever origin. I still have my high school ones. Have fun with yours.

Such an interesting topic on mentoring young professionals. In my law firm we were assigned "mentees" and I had both men and women as such. I had one young legal assistant that I had to explain how she needed to develop more judgement and problem solving instead of just filling in the blanks. That was a tough conversation and I could see she was upset but to her credit she really took it to heart and turned it around and became a much sought after assistant. We became good friends. I had another young man that I thought was hopeless but another partner turned him around. At that point I was pretty jaded in my career and ready to end.

Shel maybe there is a way to begin a discussion with "One thing about being a professional is to learn to accept constructive criticism in the spirit in which it is offered - as a means for improvement and not to take it personally. So I hope you can accept my comments as sincere help to become a high quality pharmacist".

I agree with Paula that so many young people have never visited the school of hard knocks. Being a law school grad in 1977 and first woman in the firm I always knew I was on review at all times. Wasn't easy but was kind of fun when people began to realize I wasn't an idiot. Mostly the clients were very accepting and it was other lawyers and accountants that were the pigs. What Ann says is true about some mentors not wanting to be blunt with women so you are doing no favors by not being up front. Shel I can't believe anyone would have a banana on their desk during any kind of consult, much less react badly to comments on it.

Well I will think on this some more and maybe add more later. I don't envy your work Shel as co workers can be the hardest part of any job.
