Weight 116.5, calories 881: Pretty good considering I felt stressed a fair amount yesterday when periodically checking Irma's progress. It appears that the part of Port Charlotte we live in didn't flood, but I'm not sure. If that's true it would have just been the winds, but I think Naples and Ft Myers took the brunt of it. Our development is full of old "live oak" trees though so I hope that the majority of them survived or the ambiance is going to change a lot. I suspect it will be quite a few days before we get updates. Picture below of our street pre-storm.

Thinking of those who lost family and friends in 9/11. My boss was in one of the towers that day. He ran down the stairs but some of the people in the meeting he was in tried to take the elevator. Those on the stairs survived, but the others did not. He has a timeshare in Grand Cayman spanning 9/11 which he has visited every year since then to enjoy family time.

Have a Memory filled Monday!

Liz, glad to hear your area was spared a bit. I have friends hunkered down and in shelters... high anxiety as the path shifted.

As I logged my weight on MFP this morning (still do it EVERY day), I noted 966 consecutive days. I think there is a direct correlation between holding myself accountable and building new, healthy habits and my success maintaining. For me, a few days of avoiding the scale leads directly to ostrich thinking and that former downward spiral.

When we were out pricing pellet stoves for the downstairs family room, we saw a line of gigantic white wind mills (generating power) moving almost in unison, along a ridge. Got some pictures I'll try to post. The sight certainly brought out the Don Quixote in me !!

Work with the splendor of obstacles, and never forget lives lost 911 !

I got home last night after an intense, fun, and massively alcohol-fueled wedding weekend in North Dakota. We had such a great time, ate and drank far too much, and the scales certainly reflect it. I so appreciate having this group as a touchstone to speed the return to my healthy lifestyle.

Although I loved being with people I adore and partying like it was 1999, I appreciate even more being back home with dear hubby in our quiet country home. Today, I look forward to drinking about a gallon of water, having a breakfast protein shake, and eating lots of veggies and fruits. It's serious detox time!

Sixteen years ago on Tuesday, 9/11/2001, I was in Washington, DC. In those days hubby and I lived in New Mexico. I eventually got home on Saturday via rental car and a couple of planes. Recalling 9/11 against the backdrop of devastation from Hurricanes Harvey and Irma makes my body feel all over again those days' horrors.

This week's theme: Peace

Good morning,

9/11. I had the day off, my daughter 10 months old. I watched little tv, I didn't want her seeing it.

Paula, can you imagine how different your life would have been if you had moved to Florida last year? Your parent's sudden move back North now seems like perfect design.

There are cookies in the house and I had way too many yesterday and 2 this morning. I already feel sick so there is that. I hardly ever feel sick from 2 cookie volume so I am grateful. The extra cookies, both buying and consuming, doesn't feel good at all.

On to hiking. Highway 542 where have you been all my life? It is way up north, beautifully paved and at its end (the end of the highway!) is a large paved parking lot that is the starting point of many hikes. No gravel! No dirt! Disgusting privy! (2 out of 3 ain't bad)

It is in national forest. The hike should have been 8 miles but I missed a turnoff so closer to 9 or 9.5 miles for me. Not a ton of elevation and I didn't feel fatigued at the end. But, I sure felt tired last night and this morning! Mt Shuksan (9000ft+) and Mt Baker (10000+) were frequent companions on the hike, sometimes at the same time tho they refuse to fit in a photo together. The trail was called Chain of Lakes so there were also a lot of lakes.

I don't know how many more weekend hikes there will be, it was beautiful but the air had a bite to it. I wore a light winter coat most of the time.

Pics below of both mountains and their pointy friends. Mt Baker (a volcano) is shaped more like a dome.

Yes, DH and I had the discussion about what going through Irma might have been like and I know my parents are grateful they got out before that happened.

Stress eating over the weekend. Last night I seriously said to Ron that I needed a vacation from my weekend. Yesterday, was non stop from 9 am to 6 pm with dogs, puppies, and puppy people. I kid you not - I ate NOTHING until 6:00 pm. Being over hungry and dehydrated I didn't give a rats hind end what I ate. Then I chugged and chugged liquids for hours. I think I drank a 24 oz lemonade last night in about 5 minutes. I forgot to weigh this morning, but undressed and got on the scale once I remembered I had not weighed. Not pretty. Up 2 pounds over the weekend. However, had a major bathroom visit since weighing and I know I'm retaining water because my fingers are swollen and stiff.

Am having stress at school due to curriculum planning and feeling as if I haven't enough time to get what I need to do done, so what do I do???? PROCRASTINATE! Ugh.... Perfectionism and mild ADD do not deal with this type of pressure well. I'm glad I can chuckle at myself over this though!

Glad Irma is weakening. Lots of damage, but I had expected more severe damage than I have heard reported. Hope all your loved ones faired the storm well.

Greetings Good Ones

138.5! Danger Danger Will Robinson!

Went to Wonder Woman last night. The movie wasn't too bad but I ate popcorn. This was DH belated birthday since Liza died on his birthday. Then taquitos for dinner. Few veggies and too many peanuts plus too much lounging about. Quality bathroom time needed.

Eye doctor today and a trip to Costco since I will be in the big town. Plus kiln opening and studio time.

Yep its 9-11 and my great nephew's birthday. He is only 3 so I wonder how he will feel about his birthday years from now.

I was getting ready for work when the plane**** I went to work but we mostly jus****ched the tv in the conference room. Air Force One brought President Bush to the Strategic Air Command underground which is only a few miles from my office at the time. After the towers fell, our offices were closed and everyone sent home. All our offices were in high rise buildings in various cities. One of the people who was on United 93 was the director of a nature preserve out here and it is now named after him. I eventually watched that movie - United 93 - and it was well done.

9-11 is part of why DH and I made the decision to dump our high stress jobs and move to California. We realized life is short.

Great pictures as always Shel. It makes my legs hurt to think about such a hike but good for you.

Liz, glad there is a little good news on your condo. Must be tough waiting for more news since power and cell towers are likely gone. Where does one begin to clean up such a disaster? I can't even get my desk cleared off.

Well Ann glad you proved its possible to have a great time in North Dakota. I had a friend who lived in Bismarck for awhile. We used to call it B.M.N.D. Apologies to anyone offended.

Well time for coffee #2. Diane S

LOL! Yes, it is definitely possible to have a good time in North Dakota. But it helps if you take a lot of Texans with you. Jeez, Louise, I'd forgotten how well Texans party. :)

The dance floor was full for four hours. Folks were doing every dance move known to white people, including knee slides and the worm -- expertly done!

BTW, I think in the whole state of North Dakota the only people with any melatonin last weekend were from our family. Admittedly, Caucasians also dominated our tables, but our family sports gorgeous brown babies, black women and brown men. We're going beige as fast as possible. :)
