VSG Maintenance Group
Sunday August 27
Weight 116, calories 2268 - see Devon, I told you it would be a high day (higher than it should have been...)! I need to keep it in range today.
We had a good time with visiting family last night. Today we have a neighborhood cookout, then packing for our Nantucket trip so we can leave early tomorrow morning.
Have a successful Sunday!

Weight now back in comfy zone. Yea!
Tomorrow is my third annual post-op follow-up with my bariatric surgeon. I hope to see him, but mostly care about the time I get to spend with his brilliant nurse practitioner, who's up on all the latest WLS stuff. I'll let y'all know what new info she shares.
Good news is that my recent annual blood panel results showed every single measurement within normal ranges, including the two liver function tests (AST and ALT) that were slightly elevated last year (not sure what that was all about, but I won't worry about it now).
This year I asked that cholesterol tests also be done (haven't seen those in 5 years), and the results are (for me) amazing!
Total cholesterol = 157 (normal range = under 200)
HDL ("good" cholesterol) = 72 (good range = over 40)
LDL ("bad" cholesterol) = 73 (good range = under 130)
Color me happy. :)

Supah Sunday to you all!
I feel particularly fabulous today.
Yesterday's hike was great if only to have DH out there, too. The weather and view put it over the top wonderful. It is was a 3 stage hike up Burrough mtn: Burrough 1, 2 and 3. DH only planned to go to 2 which I think is about 5 miles round trip and not a whole lot of elevation gain in my view but DH really struggled both in breath and strength. But, he didn't give up and made it so good for him.
I was surprised when he said that he was aok with waiting on B2 while I went to B3. He normally doesn't like to wait but as you can see from today's pic, it is a pretty fabulous place to wait on a sunny day with temps around 78. That is DH in the corner. In hindsight, it gave him ample time to rest.
To get to B3, you have to first drop into a saddle and then come back up. That part was a good CV workout for me. My roundtrip was just over 9 miles.
We got home about 4:30 and DH went to bed for the night. He still isn't up but it is only 8:30 so that isn't surprising for a Sunday. I did an Orange Fitness workout this morning and loved it. Somedays, things just click.
DH doesn't enjoy food or fitness as a hobby so he is NO FUN to chit chat with about fitness goals. I did ask what he thought about the hike in general and he was glad that he went. He first did that hike when he was 15 with his dad. (He scoffed that his dad only made it to B1) But, no more hikes this summer. He did offer that he needs to walk more.
In fitness hobby mode, I commented that maybe he would want to try working with a trainer or a guided class like Orange Fitness. His answer back was absolute silence. I would pay a lot to know what he was thinking. But, I know he won't disclose and I just sound like a nag. I am not the only weird one in the family.
Sorry for all this on DH, if he won't talk about it, then you have to hear about it!
I'm enjoying all this retirement talk. Also Redwoods talk.
Sending you fabulous vibes thru the cosmos, cuz I got loads to spare today. Make sure you find DH in pic, he sort of blends into the mountain. Everything is small with Mt Rainier next door.

Greetings Summer Maintainers
Well yesterday I had a pretty sluggy day doing paper work and faxing and copying and such. We have to carry our old dog out into the yard and then she walks around. Sometimes we can't find her as there are all these shrubs and planters and junk. Spent quite a bit of time looking for her only to find her on the deck curled up behind a goose sculpture. She seems to be seeking dens these days. Or DH's lap.
137.5 today which is lucky because I ate two skinny cow fudge bars last night. I usually don't do that but I was just hungry or so I thought. Guess I could have had some cold chicken. Shoulda.
Shel, your hikes are so fabulous but it exhausts me just looking at them. If anyone ever gets here for the redwood hikes I will probably have to sit somewhere and wait.
Have fun in Nantucket Liz. Any signs of the drug trial being the real thing?
New refrigerator coming tuesday so we are trying to eat all the old junk out of the freezer. Amazing what you find. The dogs are getting some ground lamb.
SIL sent us pictures of how she planted the plants we got for her. She was a super workaholic so her retirement is going to be interesting but it will be good for her to get into gardening. Now she will try to be CEO of her grandkids and niece and adult kids. Tee Hee. And always, CEO of her kitchen or anyone else.
Silver Sneakers class tomorrow. I am going to try to make it as I have missed a couple of weeks. Move it or lose it. Actually maybe its move it so you can lose it.
Sunny day and I have got to get out of the house. Will check out the studio and maybe restock in the one gallery.
Later Diane S
On your question about drug signs, DH has had diarrhea for the last couple of weeks which is one of the potential side effects. One Imodium a day is taking care of it, but when I tried stopping it after a week it came right back (so he is continuing on the Imodium for now). It can't be a placebo effect because DH doesn't know what the side-effects are, but I wonder if the filler in a placebo might sometimes cause it (I wouldn't think so)?

Liz, that sounds promising to me -- like he's in the treatment group. But I have no real knowledge of how/if pharma clinicals might "salt" the control sample's medications.

I also think it is a good sign that DH is having a side effect. I don't think I have run across a RCT where the control group was deliberately made ill. I wouldn't rule it out, tho, in a special cir****tance, but I doubt it would be done in this case.
And, also agree that it is highly unlikely that an inactive ingredient would be causing diarrhea.
Loperamide is slightly messy drug as far as drug interactions go. Sometimes the DI is missed because it is an OTC. And, since it is usually taken for very short periods of times, a temporary DI usually doesn't matter. But, if he needs it most days, be sure and double check with pharmacist (preferred) or doc (who are perfectly capable but not practiced) to see there are drug interactions to manage.
