I never was able to comfortably keep cals that low. Even in my first 2 weeks, it was easy to hit 500 per day with shakes. By the time I reached goal, 800-1000 was normal.

However, when I'm really "watching" not calories, but healthy content I find it much harder to get a high calorie day. It's only when I eat processed foods or high fat that my calories sky rocket. And since lately daily food has included processed, prepackaged foods, calories have been closer to 2000 per day.

According to my RMR (backed up by the last 9 months), my maintenance calories are 1100-1300 (sad I know). I try to average in that range over a week. So a super low day like yesterday balances a high day (likely today). And I wasn't terribly hungry yesterday (unlike other days - I am NOT one of those people who don't feel hunger).

Liz, on the RMR front, there's this possibility (?) to consider: When you do retire, you will have a lot more time to spend on daily exercise, if you choose to go that route. If you do, an hour's worth of any kind of exercise will give you 200-250 (or maybe even 300) calories to eat and burn up. Chances are, you'll also be more active on the gardening and other housework fronts.

I've certainly been more assiduous about my daily exercise since I retired. :)

Good point - I'm too exhausted mentally at the end of a workday to do anything more than take a walk.

Come on up!

Hey, don't sell your fitness short. If you google how to prepare for mountain hikes, you will see all sorts of squats, lunges, planks and a picture of you demonstrating.
