What! you mean aging can affect eyesight! No wonder I can't see well. Eye surgery sounds scary. A good thing to avoid (except I will do cataracts one of these days). Diane S

Jeez, Joey -- that's a scary story.

BTW, I'm going to have cataract surgery in both eyes this fall. At nearly 72. These days, that's a little older than most folks (on average) are having cataract surgery. The studies I've read say the younger ages of surgery are due to boomers knowing more about cataract surgery and using / needing their eyes so much and wanting it to be very good.

That having been said, many people want to wait until after they are on Medicare, since MC "pays for cataract surgery" (at least, the kind that replaces your old lens with clear, non-corrective artificial lenses).

I'm going to get corrective lenses to correct my crappy distance vision, astigmatisms, and (maybe -- not sure yet) short-range (reading) vision. It's amazing what they're offering these days. And obviously, the cost of corrective lenses will be coming out of my pocket.

Honestly, the greatest motivation for getting correcting lenses is so I can buy cool-looking sunglasses off-the-rack.

Vanity, thy name is Ann.

My younger brother got those corrective lenses put in even though he has no cataracts. Just wanted to quit fooling with glasses. Worked well. DS

Greetings Maintenance Machines

Of course you are not machines! Just sounded funny.

I made a lazy person dinner last night of refried beans and cheese on a couple of tostada shells. Paid for it with an extra half pound this morning. Back to fish and green beans tonight.

Sounds like loads of summer fun for all. I haven't been to the beach in ages even though its 1.5 miles away. Gotta do it. Dog Tesla has never been there.

Yep, BB is so right about second opinions. No doctor knows everything - even the best ones. My mother always made me promise that if she got sick I would get one. She had a fine neurologist for her Parkinson's disease but we did get her a second opinion from one at the medical school. He confirmed that everything was being done that could be so the peace of mind was worth it. And its not just medical stuff - even in home improvement or legal matters. I used to suggest that if clients did not like my legal advice.

Ann so glad your report is done and approved. Now you have your "second opinion" that staying retired is right for you. Liz I suspect you will get sucked into consulting if you allow it. Its up to you. But I sure love owning all my time now.

Dogs are basking in the sun and humming birds are orbiting the bee balm flowers. A lazy summer day indeed.

Paula sorry that Ben is grumpy but I don't blame him. Even the best hospitals are not restful. They are noisy and someone comes in every 15 minutes wanting to stab you, but you know all about that. Hope he can come home soon. My brother was at Mayo's in Arizona for about a week. I was stunned that in the cafeteria all the hot food was yucky greasy meat with gravy and cheese - decidedly unhealthy though you could get salads. They kept trying to give me trays of the stuff in my brother's room and I had just reached my wls goal and no way was I going to eat mystery meat in gravy on noodles.

Well keep the faith. Diane S

Late to the gathering. The haze from the forest fires in the interior of the province is very noticeable and causing havoc for asthma sufferers.

Just came back from a lovely walk and now going out to wash the back porch.

food was excellent.

again, everyone is doing so well.

Carbon, if you don't mind saying ... where do you live? Hubby and I are going to Vancouver in a few weeks and I'm beginning to worry that we'll find ourselves in "the smoking section."

Had a glorious day weed wacking, poop scooping, bush trimming and mowing. Twelve hours without rain !! I'm paying an arm and a leg for someone to do the same at my soon to be sold home. Appraisal and inspection this week, so bring on the closing !!

Got a massage chair to do more portable short bursts of Reiki. Making it my job to try out local massage therapists, looking for someone who may want to add my services. Applied for Social Security at 62. Life is too short... go for the gusto every day !!

Sadie is doing a lot of barking when encountering dogs on our walks. Some of it is communication, but she is difficult for me to restrain when so exuberant. I have actually had to lower my center or gravity and practically sit, to keep control. Not good.

Try this: watermelon, tomato, feta, chives, basil and vinaigrette of your choice. To die for !!

Age: 64; 5' 5"; High weight: 345; Start weight: 271 (01/05/15); Surgery weight: 218 (05/27/15); Pre-Op (-53); M 1 (-18); M 2 (-1.5); M 3 (-13.5 ); M 4 (-13); M 5 (- 8); M 6 (-12) M 7 (-5, Xmas); M 8 (- 9) Under surgeon's goal and REACHED HEALTHY BMI 12/07/15!! (Six months and one week.) AT GOAL month 8. Maintaining at goal range (139- 144) ~ four (4) years !!

Hey I took my social security at age 62. The amount I would have gained by waiting would have taken 10 years to make up and meanwhile I would have had to live on savings. A good choice.

That salad sounds great. Try gyms and health clubs for your services. Diane S
