I woke up at 3:00 am this morning, but felt quite rested so I got up.
Last night we had some very good barbeque from a local BBQ joint -- hubby had pulled pork with beans and homemade potato chips, and I had pulled chicken with cole slaw. I've not had that much dense protein (4.5 ounces) in a very long time, and boy oh boy! was it filling! Those low-carb people are actually onto something. ;)
Thanks to summer arriving in full force a few weeks ago, the grass has slowed down, so I haven't mowed in a few weeks. But I must hop to again. Depending on the dew situation I may be out there at sunrise before heading out to yoga class.
The client loved my consulting report, so yea! Great way to close up shop.
Takin' care of me.

Nice that your consulting job went well and you are done! We will see what happens after I retire...
Weight 115.75, calories 1262. I guess I am doing dense protein, low carb. I do eat carbs, but try to get as full as I can on dense protein first. Good pulled pork/chicken is a great way to do that!
Short day today as I worked long days early in the week. I'm thinking about an excursion today or tomorrow: either whale watching or sailing. DH will enjoy either. The rest of the summer the weekends are pretty busy: Visiting friends in NH next week; company from NY the following week; neighborhood cookout and going to Nantucket for our anniversary the week before Labor Day; then Labor Day!

Liz, your August plans sound divine! All my East Coast friends will be visiting their traditional beach haunts this month. 'Tis the season.

No weight. I gained back the 2 I had lost with the first hospital stay. Back to the hospital again. Ben is Gruuuuuuuumpy with a capital G! Lack of sleep will do that. I'm trying to not take it personally but it is so unlike him! He is ready to be back home in his own bed with puppies close by. Hopefully tomorrow or Saturday!
Rainy, dreary day. No outside exercise for me. Perhaps I'll walk the halls some.
I wondered how he'd be when you said he hadn't been sleeping. My daughter had the same problem in the hospital. She was usually the sweetest most easy going person you can imagine but she became seriously sleep-deprived in the hospital and it really affected her personality ****il she got home and recouped). She told me she couldn't sleep not only because of the unfamiliarity and the noise (which I expected), but also because she was afraid someone would touch her while she was asleep and make her jump (and have pain). Much better when they are home with people they trust taking care of them.

No weight today. Since DH had work obligations yesterday, I got my hair done and bought myself Fazzoli's (it was brought to my attention recently that not everyone has this? it's a fast food/casual dining pasta place). Pasta has been really calling my name, and that is not my usual. While I did love the stuff prior to WLS, now it usually makes my stomach swell. But recently it's been so easy and comforting. Maybe it was the Italian sausage that was a bad idea, but let's just say it didn't make it.
I know I've been way luckier than many because I haven't really felt that nauseous, just more "off" like ew better not eat that or I might get nauseous. But it's such a bummer because I feel hungry nearly all the time, and then when eat I feel slightly sick. It reminded me of right after wls when I started eating food again. Did any of you have that experience? I had terrible heartburn and was very hungry/achy stomach, but anything I'd eat would make me feel not good too. As a foodie, this is almost a depressing way to feel. I know it will pass, and I know it could be much worse, and I know the end goal is good. But all the healthy foods I've bought are rotting :( I have neither the energy nor interest in cooking them.
So just a PSA that doctors are humans who can make mistakes too. I know a lot of you are taking care of family members and dealing with doctors. It sounds like you all have been very good about advocating for yourself or family. Bravo! I'm naturally suspicious of people, including doctors, probably a trait of my job (lawyer). They may have the degree, but you live in/with the body. If you feel the need to get a second opinion, get it! This stems from a visit with a friend in the hospital recently. I'll try to make the story short: he was having horrible stomach pains while at his lakehouse and so went to a small town ER where a doctor advised him that he had a perforated colon and would require a resection of his colon a colostomy bag. He was told this was his only option. He asked to be transported back to the city because he wanted his wife to be close to home. He did. The doctor in the city told him that he had three options: they would try to heal it with antibiotics, he might have to have resection but they could sew back the colon, and if they exhausted all the other options, only then would he require a resection and colostomy bag. He's now healing with antibiotics!
I agree with you BB. Having gone through serious illness with several family members: always educate yourself, ask questions, get second opinions and if possible go to the best possible facilities (Mayo, for instance). We are lucky to have a lot of great hospitals in Boston not too far away.

The first time I felt the need for a second opinion, I found out that the first opinion was all wrong. I didn't like the way the office was pressuring me to have eye surgery immediately or I could lose my sight. I took the risk and saw another surgeon the next day, who had top notch diagnostic equipment, who said that my eye has a slight deformity from birth that was not the cause of my symptoms. Because I was afraid to go blind, he saw me very often for a year to make sure he was correct. He was. The cause of my symptoms ... wait for it ... AGING!
