Weight 116, calories 1715. Going to a BBQ today with a bunch of local OH people - should be fun!

Paula, Ben sounds like he is doing fantastic. I hope his recovery continues to be smooth. Your family must be thrilled that all is going so well.

Devon and BB do a lot of deep thinking for the rest of us! One thing BB said yesterday really resonated with me - that previously after a "pig-out" day, some of us would go on a food week or month. That was me exactly! It is part of what the daily weighing and daily reporting stops me from doing. If I ate way too much the prior day (or 2-3 days), and my weight isn't up, then I feel like I've had a reprieve, I'm reset and go back to my usual eating. If my weight is up, I know what to do and cut the calories for however long it takes to drop back down.

Enjoy your Saturday! Our day is going to be cloudy, windy and a bit cool.

Paula, so glad to read Ben is doing very well post-surgery. When do y'all go home (sorry if I missed seeing that elsewhere)?

It's beautiful here this morning -- much cooler, and for the next week we'll have lows in the 60s and highs in the 80s. That we can handle easily. :)

Hubby continues to feel better and better. His appetite is slowly returning, and he is currently on a BBQ jag.

Mama Wren is still sitting on her clutch of eggs in the vase on the porch. We're ready to see those wrenlings. I wonder how much cheeping and chirping they'll do.

Everyone, have a wonderful summer Saturday.

Greetings Great Ones

Still 136. I guess thats ok. I meant to lift weights yesterday but failed. Will try to get to the gym today. Its a sleepy foggy Saturday here. DH up early but he went back to bed. Tee Tee, I can hear the dogs in there having a wrestling match on the bed with him!

A mini family reunion on DH side in southern Cal later in August. They are fun. What a contrast with my side of the family that was just together for a funeral and in which everyone is crazy.

BBQ sounds good. I have been looking for a low sugar BBQ sauce for pot roast. I guess I should just make my own. Steak tonight sounds good.

Ann so glad your DH is feeling better. As my doctor once told me, all medication is poison - you just have to figure out if its worth it. Glad he got away from it.

Yep I agree that a pig out day leads to more of the same. I remember this being discussed in a psychology class where slim people would just keep hanging around the food all day long on holidays. I can remember eating to the point of being stuffed and just waiting around until I could eat some more. Well I don't do that any more but I do tend to pick at stuff if its around.

Scrabble party tomorrow afternoon which will be another opportunity to pick at food. At least it will all be hippie organic and probably vegetarian. Even though they are vegetarians, these people are sharks at the scrabble board. Extremely skilled players. One time I had 3 bingo words and 480 points and I still lost!

Well I guess I had better do something useful like clean up papers. But first, more coffee ...... Diane S

Sunny Saturday to you all!

Paula, I hope Ben's recovery continues to go well. He looks like a happy man in the hospital bed. Ding Dong! Now he can move on.

We are in day forty-something of days without rain. The record is 51 or so. But, for all the sparkling beauty, I sense a change in the collective mood. Even after the rainiest winter in history, we can no longer fake that we love day after day after day of sun. Personally, I am still (mostly) enjoying it.

Random comment about Starbucks....so my 16 year old is a new employee. Since she is currently working >20 hours per week, she is eligible for a reasonable healthcare plan as well as 401K. Other stuff, too, but I was surprised at how decent a package it is, esp for a part time, entry level position. She will drop to 8-12 hours a week when school starts so that will all go away but it has been interesting to look at in the meantime.

I fear a lost weekend. I seriously NEED a strenuous hike but have a bit of a bug with fatigue is the main symptom. I got up early (which I do pretty much no matter what) and was back to bed in about 30 minutes. That is that. Plenty to do and enjoy here at home. I might try again tomorrow.

I need to go back into posts and let the words of wisdom soak in. But, for now, I'm going to toss the yoga mat on the back deck and soak in the sun.

Have a great day! Shel

Shel, nice to hear Starbucks is good to its employees. There is not enough of that these days.

Yep, go and soak up some rays on the deck. You need your vitamin D.

Saw a button that said "DIET means Did I Eat That?"

Rest up. Diane S

Ben continues to do well and is walking like a champ! Pain still well controlled.

I'm doing good too. Took a 60+ minute walk both yesterday and today. Beautiful weather and nice to get out of the hospital for a bit. Eating has been decent too. I brought protein bars, nuts, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, cherries, blueberries and biscotti (just because Ann eats it and I want to be like the cool kids). Lol! I usually go out for one meal but have been making at least okay choices then too!

Ben should be in the hospital for 8 days. I think I might leave tomorrow afternoon and return Wednesday night. Get a few days of work in before he gets discharged so I can spend about week with him once he gets home.

Thanks, Paula, for sharing the good news about Ben. And how wonderful that you also found / made time today to feed your body and your soul. Your foods all sound delicious!

I'm glad you are able to take care of yourself. It sounds like Ben's great attitude is going to help him heal fast. I'm sure you feeling well and strong will help fuel him as well.
