It was so good to be back in the pool yesterday. The pool is newly painted a beautiful light blue with dark red lane stripes. Yea, community resources!

Heading to a dermatologist today -- I've never been to one before. I guess I'll find out how much sun damage I've invited over the years. Probably quite a lot. Oh well, as Agnes in "Auntie Mame" said, I lived!

Hubby's recovery continues, He did a mile yesterday at cardio rehab. Good times.

TAKIN' CARE OF BUSINESS.

Good morning everyone. A busy busy time of year!

Might be miss and hit for a time. Family coming and we are camping in areas where there is spotty reception. After the family come friends and as they are from the City getting out to the bush is marvellous. Total camp fire ban but we will manage.

have a great Tuuesday!

Good morning!

I am wondering what my desk will bring me this morning, having had a couple of days off. I have vague memories of upcoming challenges.

Yesterday, I didn't quite embrace my return to great eating as well as I would have liked, but it was a solid first step. I'll do better at work today because it is always easier at work. I generally feel better, already. Really an amazing difference.

Carbon, I have been enjoying car camping. I felt like Yogi Bear amongst the big trees last weekend. I do vividly remember why I swore off car camping a long time ago, tho. A mix of rain, wind, leaky tent and 2 dogs squabbling over a cookie. Losing my cookie was probably the worst of it.

Paula, hoping the insurance approval is comes thru asap.

Hug your skinny tight,

Shel

No trip to Mayo today. Pre -op testing denied and should have an answer about the actual surgery at the end of the day today. Pretty sure it will be a denial too. Will have to gear up for a fight (again) I am afraid.

Paula, I wish y'all were on Medicare already! That "single payer insurance" will take care of most of these kinds of issues. It's one of the truly great things about growing old in America.

Good luck Paula!

I got back yesterday from Orlando quite early. But as we sometimes share TMI here, I hadn't "gone" in a week so I took the rest of the day to try and sort that out, which I was partially successful.

Weight was 160 this am. Gasp. Maybe I shouldn't be weighing myself. I actually didn't eat very much at all in Orlando. Maybe it's because I'm still backed up. That's 6-7lbs. heavier than before pregnancy. Just not acceptable :(

Primary symptom has been exhaustion. Strangely enough it didn't bother me in Orlando--or at least we were able to nap and put it up to being at the pool. Or maybe it's my tummy troubles exhausting my system, or travel. But yesterday I took a 2hr. nap, felt almost so tired when I moved to the recliner and watched tv, went to bed at 9:15, and didn't awaken until 7:15 this am. And still I feel so tired.

As far as the meetup--it was nice. And I definitely like sharing with this community. Best decision I ever made. However--and I wonder if any of you feel this way--it's not as relevant anymore. I know I'm making that statement to VSGM group. But what I mean is for the most part, my day-to-day life doesn't revolve around surgery anymore. In a more broader sense, it does revolve around weight loss and management, but not "surgery" per se. And to some extent, I think that's a very natural and good thing. This conference would've been perfect for me 6-7 years ago. Now I feel a bit like a phony. At the end of the day, you gotta find your way and just be committed to make it work for you. Honestly, I think that's the only secret. You will be able to eat more at some point. Some people still swear to now/low carbs, or no real sugar, etc. If that's what works for them, great. The idea of never eating carbs again from 22 on was simply unimaginable to me. And, quite frankly, if I said that it'd be a set up for an excuse later--because I know the way I think, and if I say I can't have something, eventually I will, and I feel bad about it, and therefore I cut off my nose to spite my face and go on a carb holiday before finally trying to get back to no carb--and that becomes a bad cycle for me. I know this about myself. But how do you explain this to people? And it's so individual. And it may not be my recommendation for someone 3 months out!

I remember that exhaustion in the first trimester of pregnancy. It does get better.

I hear you, BB, re the "lifestyle is what's important now -- not the surgery." That's where I am, too -- just three years post-op.

Yes, I read posts by folks who have adopted what seems to me to be an unbalanced approach to eating who swear that it's the only way they could ever maintain their weight. That's not (so far) the approach that has worked for me. And right now I can't imagine that it ever would.

Having said that, I'm approaching the Three Year Mark -- the point at which there's some considerable evidence that those who've lost all their excess weight and maintained well up to this point start "dancing with the devil," and some patients start to regain for the first time. There was a graph posted here yesterday (I'll find the link and post below) of the results showing that fourth-year-gain from a VSG study that was described in a meta-analysis of multiple WLS five-year studies.

In any event, I'm about to get hyper-aware of how to ward off regain.
