SUCH an interesting discussion yesterday! When you read the posts of long term maintainers it seems that most of them have established rules that work for them (like Shel). When they stick to the rules they maintain and when they vary they gain. Basically, as Devon so wisely put it: "The key to my long term eating choice success depends on my acceptance and understanding of who I am, what I fear, and what I wish to accomplish. Taking care of myself and making myself a priority and truly knowing in the depths of my being that I am worthy of self care, not being self indulgent or selfish, is what is going to be the key to my success."
I'm calling to find out next steps on the car today. I wonder if they have to spend a few days trying to dry it out before they know the situation?
Have a great beginning to your week!

142.2, No damage done with 3 days of ice cream in a row! Back on track today!
Had a wonderful weekend away but glad to be home too. That is when you know you had the right amount of time away!
Will have a busy start of the week getting everything set for our Mayo appointments. Did a little of it via phone Thursday and Friday but will need to follow-up to make sure things were done. I'm not sure how the elderly or people that don't work in the medical field and know some of the ins and outs ever do it. I find that we are constantly talking between doctor's, facilities, and the insurance company to make sure that all the ducks are in a row and even with all of that we have had some wayward ducks! It doesn't help that we are working between 3 different medical facilities in 3 different cities and 2 states right now!
Happy to return to work today. I have not been there for a week!
Liz, best of luck with your car situation.
Love to you all!
Paula
Paula, boy oh boy, do I hear you on all the work required for medical self-care when serious illness happens to us or our families! How fortunate that you know those medical ropes, hoops and bells!

Greetings Fellow Maintainers
136.5 today. Pizza pounds on the way out. If you listen closely you can hear them flapping away ....
Yep Devon made a profound statement which we all should take to heart. There certainly is a connection between overeating and feelings of low self worth. Some kind of attempt to feed the soul. We all have to find ways to nourish ourselves rather than stuff ourselves. Devon, you need to write a book in your free time.
Liz hope the car situation resolves. I have a feeling you are going to be driving the Enterprise for awhile. We are glad you are safe.
Paula the medical appointment stuff must be an ordeal. Hope you get it all lined up soon. Aren't computers supposed to make this stuff easier? It seems like we spend way too much time going through phone menus and nothing is any faster or better. I am having trouble getting a routine mammogram scheduled.
Well today I will do the gym and see whats in the kiln. Another foggy day on the north coast. I am feeling foggy so time for more coffee. Peace to all. Hey Dave and BB, where are you? Diane S

So that's how much you can eat with impunity when you work a serious day in the fields. You wouldn't think working a zero turn lawn mower could be so physical, but it truly is. My lats and shoulders were exhausted last night, as were my calves. Work -- it's what we used to do for exercise. ;)
More work today -- 3 hours this morning of gardening, trail maintenance, and mowing. I'm calling it a day already. Think I'll do some ironing this afternoon.
I'm so enjoying y'all's comments about maintenance menus, self-knowledge, self-worth, self-care, and what we are individually really dealing with in terms of factors that contributed to our obesity. This journey, for me thus far, doesn't get boring. I'm still unpacking so much and probably always will be. Layers beneath layers.
I appreciate you guys so much.

Hello all!
Sunny and mild in Seattle today. Lovely! Compass and map class yesterday was great.....learned some interesting things that all you boy and girls scouts have known for decades. I will have to practice, tho or I will forget it in a few hours. Also had a chance to talk to the instructor about bear safety in Washington state and feel better educated on that, too.
Paula, I'm glad that DH has you to help him to navigate the multiple doc's, hospitals and insurance coverage.
Devon's comment about self care --- not self indulgent or selfish -- is still ringing in my ears today.
Hug your skinny,
Shel

Scale was around 157 today! Yikes. Feeling puffy. But hungry still. There's a little bit of that "throw the baby out with the bathwater" mentality going on. I need to get back to holding myself accountable on MFP. I'm just focusing on maintaing for now (well, maybe once I get these 3lbs. puffiness off). And...I'll confess...the thai food I had for lunch didn't help. Did 300 calorie burn workout on Saturday. Will hit back and bis tonight.
But dinner will be pork and pepper kebabs, grilled squash, and watermelon salad. Yum and healthy.
Reason for lack of posting: I have been trying to balance bad mood and being productive working on the shop. Good news is that the 4 rooms in the shop are shaping up. Rm #1 is a pantry, Rm #2 is a storm room/ hot tub room, Rm#3 is closet and laundry and Rm#4 is a bathroom. 2 are yellow one is purple and 1 will be purple. $40 paint on sale for $9 because of miss tint. I really don't care about color but it is turning out nice. Building closet and storage shelves now.

Good carb discussion. I eat way more than 50 grams of carbs. It would be punitive for me to eat less than 50grams. Recent trend of eating additional serving of N&Y at night. Obsession continues. I eat extra N&Y when that is the only thing I eat. Just plain weird. I do occasionally try to eat regular food. It is tasteless or it tastes awful. I rationalize that I should not eat things that I hate. I think my eating is more disordered than ever. I do feel like the N&Y obsession is VSG related but I would have it done again even knowing what I know.
Liz, sorry about your car. I was in a BMW convertible coup recently. That is something that I couldn't have gotten in or out of @ 362 lbs.
Paula, best wishes in your healthcare navigation. Glad you enjoyed the recent visit with family.
Shel, your hikes are inspiring. And pstyling made me laugh until I really thought about it. With today's technology it should be easier to pee in the woods.
Diane S, Hoping the pizza pounds leave as quick as they came.
Devon, your insights and perspectives are worthy of compiling in book form. I would buy one. Y'all are going to have some puppies piled up all over!
Ann, Good thought starter. I've been mowing too.

Nice to hear from you! The shop sounds like it is coming around nicely. Though the N&Y obsession may feel like a problem, I agree with you that if you are going to eat something you should be able to enjoy it. I seem to have a newly acquired nut obsession too so I haven't been buying them. But there are LOTS of things that I enjoy. For instance BB's pork and pepper kabobs sound like a winner for trying (I just bought some pork today).
