Devon, I've been so impressed with your dedication to exercise and getting stronger! Here is a little motivation for you. Local girl just set a world record for deadlifting 404.5 lbs.

As Shel says, Supah Sunday everyone!

I am up 1.6 pounds this morning. Every ounce well deserved. Very low water intake, two diet sodas (high sodium), diet green iced tea and coffee coupled with high outdoor temperatures, a mild sunburn on my neck and arms (achieved in SF's Golden Gate Park, no less in under 70 degree weather!), and a deliciously decadent portion of bundt cake for dessert followed by some ice cream all add up to extra pounds on the morning weigh in. Well, one day will not make or break me and my WL challenges remain in place and doable.

Have to get some priorities set for the week ahead. I do not want to sit and plan, but at some point today I must. I want to go do a little organizational shopping, get the week's eggs for the dogs, and just play a little bit. I will work on a compromise. Maybe I can fit in everything and satisfy both my ying and yang today!

Ah yes, the carb conundrum. There have been so many arguments about this on the vsg forum over the years. I agree with Devon that in maintenance its a personal thing. Remember how your surgeon gave you a pile of info on how to lose the weight but not much on maintaining. Low carb is pretty important in weight loss phase in my surgeon's opinion.

One's diet cannot be dictated by high or low carbs but is more like after arranging for getting enough protein, what is left? Thats how I see it even though its not what I always do. I no longer track (probably should) but I do always make a choice for protein first (pizza has protein right - LOL). I am not always perfect in my choices but do generally pass on refined carbs as much as possible. That includes sweets and sugar. It takes almost nothing for me to gain weight as I am old and slug-like So thats the way it has to be for me. Anyone who can live on moderate sweets and refined carbs go for it.

Of course wine is another issue. I think I would rather have a glass of wine than a cookie. Wine does not have many carbs but has some calories and its own set of issues.

Dr. Cirangle told me to snack on olives rather than cheese. I think its a healthier fat and intense flavor. Who is going to pig out and eat 2 cups of olives???

Diane, thanks for weighing in on this topic. I'm very interested in what others here are doing and how that's working for them.

What works best for me, for now, is eating mostly food that's nutritious with lots of taste AND some daily treats. I do still track everything ... will be three years post op next month.
