VSG Maintenance Group
Sunday July 9
Weight 115.5, calories 1367. Those calories included the insides of a wonderful lobster roll I shared with DH. They are expensive this year! The "monster" one which feeds 2 people was about $28 last year, up to $38 this year.
I won't have any idea about what's going on with the car until tomorrow as the auto repair place it was towed to was closed yesterday. You are right: it was just a car at the end of the day, so I need to relax. I do have a rather large rental car my insurance is paying for: a Chrysler 300. No parallel parking that thing! I thought I was getting a Nissan Altima but they didn't have any on the lot.
We went to the beach yesterday and probably will today. Summer is short here so we like to take advantage of good beach days.
I hope you all enjoy your Sunday!

No weights this weekend. Having a great weekend away with Ben. Lots of nice walks albeit not my normal power walk pace. Overall meal choices have been healthy but I've had ice cream all 3 days. I think I'm ice creamed out for awhile!
Wil go to church with my parents, then out for lunch then head for home. Will be nice to see the boys and puppies!
Hope you all have been enjoying your weekend.
I'm glad you have had an enjoyable respite!

Supah Sunday to you all!
Liz, I am glad you are safe. Crazy!
Devon, always a good writer, but perhaps your most granular descriptions were reserved for food. (Or, maybe cookies of any form get my attention?) But no more...your descriptions of exercise now seem to match/exceed those of food. So happy to see your relative ease.
Today I have a 6 hour REI compass/navigating class at a park. Yuck. 6 hours! But, I really should know how to use a compass. So, I will take my medicine rather than going to paddle board yoga.
My hikes the last couple of days were rather moderate. 8-9 miles with some elevation. One path was heavy in step-ups and obstacles created by Mother Nature. The other was created by the Forest Service, who believes in as much accessibility as possible, complete with a Forest Ranger up top. In the next few weeks, I have my eye on Granite Mountain which will be my hardest hike yet but is a reasonable progression. I just need some snow to melt, first.
Colchuck Lake was a beautiful jade, the water crystal clear and refreshingly cold for hot feet. Both hikes were on "the other side" of the pass. Hotter and dustier than what we have over here. And snakes....they have snakes that bite. And, in case you are wondering, I did try the new pstyle device in a restroom. The view was disconcerting but it was amazingly effective tho I need practice before I can write my name. Didn't need it on either hike but glad to have it available.
Have a skinny day! Shel
Same lake, but the sun is washing out the lake's color. While I was there, a skier came down the snow on the right. He had to hike up first!
Partial view of a meadow filled with wildflowers from a previous hike.

Shel, we really, really, really need a LOVE button here for your mountain pix. And the image of a skier who hauled his/her skis up a mountain to ski down is inspiring.
This morning I spent 5 hours on a mower. Stick a fork in me -- it's time for baby back ribs!
Weight is back in my happy place, and I'm feeling back in appropriate eating control. Weather is great, hubby is feeling good today, and I'm happy. :)

Greetings Summer Enjoyers
Yikes, 137 today! Thats the highest since I reached goal 6 years ago. One stinking slice of pizza yesterday for dinner. Those slices are a pound each. Fortunately its gone. Eggs and veggies tonight.
Lobster roll sounds so good. I am grateful there is no such thing around here but we have other downfalls. Good luck with the car Liz. Its no fun to drive around in the Enterprise when you are not used to it. I drove guests around in my old SUV for a week and really missed my little Prius.
Shel, each set of hike pictures is more beautiful than the last. Yeah, put up with the compass class. You don't want to get lost and end up with the bears!
Paula glad you are having a nice getaway. More of those should be in store.
I had a lot of steps in this past week waiting on guests and scoping out attractions for my barely mobile SIL. Now I can get more regular with gym visits which I really need. Back to a life of gallery duties and finances. AND NO MORE PIZZA.
I was listening to some radio interview with a doctor who had written a book about hormonal reasons for weight gain. He said the stresses of life put us into a constant state of "fight or flight" mode and that causes release of cortisol. And cortisol supposedly causes weight gain or metabolic changes for a number of chemical reasons that I can't recall. Anyway it was interesting and made sense. Medical people please "weigh in" on this. I am going to research it a little. Don't know what one can do except try to be in a more mindful meditative state. Like Ann says "breathe" and "be here now". Hugs all. Diane S.
I probably should post a separate thread on this topic here in our group, but I'll start the ball rolling here ....
The topic is "Super Low Carb Maintenance Diet?"
On the general and other OH forums there seems to be a chorus of long-term vets who insist that to be a successful long-term maintainer you have to eat very low carb, i.e., no more than 50 grams of carbs/day.
I don't eat this way, and I don't think that anyone who posts here regularly eats that way.
Thoughts? Experience? Insights? Any reliable research you can cite?
